did you try for the fafsa?
Hi Ladies,
My husband needs approximately $1500 to take an online class and take the test for his construction license here in California. We are both employed but all of our money goes towards living expenses, day care, etc. It will take him months to save $1500. Does anyone know how we might go about getting financial aid/loan for this class? Thank you!

Hi K.,
I recommend talking to the financial aid department of the school that gives the class...more than likely they will say you need to fill out the FAFSA, then the school can determine what kind of loan hubby will be eligible for.
Best,
M.
You can take out a private loan. Financial aid is need based by income. They don't care what your bills are only what you make.
instead of waiting around trying to get the money together - go through your house and find things that you don't need - collectibles, etc. children's clothes that are out grown and list them on craigslist and ebay.
You'll be doing yourself a favor as well by cleaning out your home of unnecessary things.
The class or school should have information for financial aid...I would call them as well...but in the mean time instead of waiting on the bureaucracy - be proactive and go through the house...base ball cards, sports cards, etc. will sell..
Through the govt (assuming this class is through a community college) will *probably* take until next year. Financial aid through CCs is on a first come, first serve, basis. One starts applying in march for the following september.
The hands downs fastest way is as Jo or Cheryl suggest. A private loan through the bank, or by selling something or some things that you own.
Check with the institution offering the class to see if the FAFSA is an option, if not, you will have to go through a regular bank for a student loan. I am currently in school at San Jose State and know the ins and outs of financial aid. Feel free to pm me if you have further questions or want additional help.
