I am looking for some advice on how to choose baby formula for a 7 month old baby and onward. My sister had her baby in May, and now she is looking for baby formula. It seems Kirkland Signature brand provide good nutrition as well as good value. Except my sister say that baby need different kinds of formula based on age, after 1 year, they need something different. My baby sister is in China, so I want to make sure I get the right thing for her baby. Any suggestions from experienced mommies?

After the age of one there is no real need to continue formula, cows milk is fine.

No. Babies do NOT need formula, after 12 months. Purely a marketing gimmick to make money. Whatever formula the baby is on now, will be fine until 12 months.

The Kirkland stuff is perfect for an infant up to 12 months. After that whole milk is what most doctors recommend. We use Target brand's generic Gentlease for our 6 month old and plan on doing so until she's a year old. Some people use a toddler formula after 12 months of age, but our doctor didn't recommend it for our first daughter - it may depend on the other types of nutrition the baby is getting. Hope that helps!

Yes I agree that the after 12 month formula is mostly a gimick. I mean I'm sure it helps b/c toddlers don't eat a ton of variety, but most babies don't need formula after a year...just go to whole milk. If the baby seems to like Kirkland stick with it. Changing formulas can upset the baby's tummy, so try and stay consistent, and since it's a generic it is much easier on the wallet too! I've always used Target brand generics, but they are all fine, just pick one and stick to it, wherever you shop most is probably the best choice since you are there often.
