Ok, first, TAKE THE TURKEY OUT OF THE HOT WATER IMMEDIATELY! You NEVER defrost meat in hot water, only in cold. You're setting yourself and your family up for some serious food poisoning. Check the FDA website at Foodsafety.gov for hints.
Alright, I am hoping someone out there can tell me step by step how to bake a turket. It is 5 and I just bougth the turkey. I put it in the sink with hot water to start it de thaw. How long do I bake a 17lb turkey?

I know I'm no help on baking it but I hope you and your family are OK. Like the poster before said, you can never thaw a turkey in hot water. Salmonella and botulism are VERY possible if you do that. Always use cold water and you are suppose to change it every 30 minutes or so.
I bake my turkeys (thawed) at 20 min. per lb. wrapped in aluminum foil until the last 20 minutes so the skin will get brown. I also thaw my turkey for about 2 days in the refrigerater. I get about a 13-14 lb turkey. Turns out great every year. Oh yea The internal temp should be at 190 when it's done. Hope it helps.

We take the turkey (frozen) and put it and 2 Tablespoons of flour in a turkey roasting bag. We put it in the roaster on a rack (or in the oven)@250 degrees and let it cook all night and into the morning. You have never had such a moist turkey and delicious.
1 hour for every 4pounds of turkey!
so 4 1/2 hours to 5 hours for yours.
Baste your turkey with veggie stock and rub it down with garlic. Or the way the other woman said, with flour and a roasting bag.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
