My very generous and appreciative boss is offering me a vacation next spring completely paid for by him. He said he would pay for my husband, daughter and me to go to Disney World, or if we prefer, for just my husband and me to go somewhere else. My daughter will just be turning 2 around the time we would go....do you think that is a good age to take her? Would she enjoy it as much at that young of an age?
I have never been to Disney World myself, so I'm not sure. What would you do, would you take the family vacation, or go just with your husband??
Thank you everyone for your answers! It is a good dilemma to have and we still aren't sure what we will do. I'm leaning toward and mommy/daddy vacation, but we will see. If it is just my husband and I, we will not be going to Disney and will instead probably go to Mexico or a beach resort somewhere. We had talked about taking my daughter when she was closer to 4 or 5 anyway, but then this opportunity came up. Luckily we still have some time to decide! Thanks again!
Yes, go! There is no age too young or too old for disney world. She probably wont remember but you all will enjoy!
Personally, I think 2 is the worst age to take children anywhere! They're too old to just sit in the stroller, but too young to do much and they where out so quickly.
We went to Disney last Christmas with my whole family (36 of us). I have the youngest kids. My 5 year old was the perfect age. She loved it! The 9 month old twins were fine, but I don't think got much out of it. I was talking to a woman with a 5 year old and a 2 year old and she told me she would never take a 2year old to Disney again.
I think relaxed beach/mountain vacations are the best way to go with 2 year olds. Just my opinion!
If you have someone willing to watch your daughter, I'd make it a couples trip. Your daughter will be exhausted and may not be willing to wait in the longer lines for the more exciting rides you and your husband would probably enjoy.
I've been to Disney several times and to be perfectly honest, I think you and your husband would have more fun just the 2 of you. There aren't a ton of rides she can go on and it's a long day for a little one. She's too young to remember it. If it were me I'd hand the kids off to grandma & grandpa and go have a really good time with my hubby! Take your daughter when she's older. Have fun!
What a great dilemma to have! lol! Truthfully I think either option would be great. I would probably do a family trip b/c I hate being away from my kids. However, trips for mom and dad are usually hard to come by so if you have someone to watch your daughter and think she would be fine being away from you then go for it.
There is no perfect age for Disney. Some people like to wait until their kids are older so they can go on all the rides. Other people think if you wait until kids are too old some of the magic is lost. I think any age can have fun. if you do go with a 2 year old, just make sure to pace yourself. We went when my kids were 1 1/2 and 4 1/2. Every day we stayed until the girls were too tired. Then we went back to the hotel and hung out. We didn't get to do everything b/c we knew the pace was one our kids couldn't keep up with. But every day we had a great time and my oldest is still asking to go back. If you and your husband are the types of personalities that want to schedule the day so you get to see everything, then you might want to hold off until she is a little older.

I would go without her if you have someone you can have watch her. Disney is huge and exhausting and there is so much more for adults than two year olds. I would not start showing her movies or inculcating her into the 'Princess culture' - why introduce her into Disney's 'buy me, buy me, buy me' any earlier than necessary.
I would leave your child behind. AND at two, the chances of your daughter being in the "terrible twos" frame of mind is too great and that would make your vacation an ordeal, and NOT a vacation.
At two she will not be able to remember or appreciate it. At three, she will be able to appreciate it and then that would be a time to take her.
My wife and I love to travel and the Hawaiian Luau put on by Universal Studios is the best we have ever been to and that includes the 4 we went to in Hawaii during our 25th anniversary trip.
We've been to Disney world three times. I LOVED it and so did my wife and kids. If you like gardening, be sure to take their "Behind the scenes" Gardening class/tour in Epcot.

For some of the rides, the child has to be a certain age/height/weight etc.
But many toddlers do go to Disney World. And they have little kid things too.

I'm sure she will have fun, but will mostly be exhausted,maybe cranky a lot due to missing naps or the odd schedule. She would have the same amount of fun at any local theme park or zoo. What a generous boss though! If I was footing the bill, I would wait until my children were a few years older.
I say go she will love it. Almost all the rides at Disney are family friendly, meaning that you can hold your little one on your lap if you need to and still are safe. We took my daughter the first time when she was 14 months and she had a great time. We now live minutes away and we all still love it.
Now I wouldn't recommend going to Universal the rides there are more for teens and adults.
She will LOVE it! Read her princess books and let her watch a few Disney movies before you go so that she will be familiar with the characters and not so overwhelmed with everything.
We started taking our oldest when she was 21 months. (We live in Orlando) and she has always LOVED it!!! Our littlest one will never have the magical first time trip, she has been going about 2-5 times a month since she was 5 weeks old. :)

Well i couldnt imagine going with out my kid so if your getting a free trip see if you can get grandma or someone you really trust like an older cousin etc to get a free trip to orland and a room so she can watch your kid at night and you andhubby can go out and have some me time. Disney knows how to cater to all ages and will be able to make your trip magical.

Totally depends on what you all want to do. If you take her, it will be a family vacation, with all of the ups and downs that come with it. But yes, 2 is a great age to go!! She'll still believe in all of the characters and see the ones she watches on TV in person - what is more amazing than that?!?!
Or you can enjoy some time with your hubby and enjoy that too!!
Decide what makes you happy, and go with it :).
Its all in what you want to be able to do. There is a lot that you can do as a family with a little one but there is a lot that you can't do as well with a little one. She will not be able to ride a lot of the rides at 2 so most of what you will be able to do is the shows which those are wonderful too. My husband and I went for our honey moon and my son was 2 1/2 and for obvious reasons we did not take him. But sometimes I wish we did. You need to decide if you would like a tirp just the two of you. Cause it is just as much fun with two adults as it is with kids. We went a few summers ago when my boys where 7 and 10 and they loved it.

Wow, awesome boss. If the monetary value were the same for the trips, honestly we would take one just for us. Adult only trips are harder to come by, just my opinion.
And I think just turning two is a little young to really enjoy Disney. Enjoy, either way!
We took my daughter the month before she turned 2 and she LOVED it! We have memories that I will always cherish and videos of her pushing her stroller around and stalking Mickey. It was ADORABLE!
I think the best age is around 4.
Personally if I were in your situation I'd go have a 2nd honeymoom with hubby.
my kids were 5 and 8, which was perfect for us. I'd wait a bit--too much chance of her being scared or crabby or...
We took our daughter when she had just turned four because my husband had a business trip in Orlando. She LOVED it, but now (at 7 years old) doesn't remember any of it! We have lots of great photos and she did great while we were there (we spent the entire day at a park since our hotel was off-site and I didn't want to exit and return later). She napped in the stroller when needed. It was miserably hot and rained a lot, but she was so excited about all there was to do that she never got cranky... just soaked it all up.
She's been asking to go back and I don't know when that will happen, but I wish she remembered at least some of our visit. If you take your daughter, focus on getting lots of photos. If she's scared of dressed up characters, they were everywhere. If she's not, she'll love seeing them all. My daughter wanted photos with them all.
We took our son to Disney World at 2.5 and for us "personally" he was too young... The long lines, the heat, the crowds, etc was too much for all of us... He's 5 now and I'm really excited to take him at this age..
