How Much Should a 3 Month Old Eat?

My son has acid reflux, so I try not to feed him too much at each feeding, but he sometimes wants to eat again in an hour. How much do you feed your 3 month old?? I don't want to over feed him, but I'm wondering if he will go for longer in between feedings and maybe even sleep better if he eats more.

What can I do next?

I totally think every kid is different for eating. My son ate twice as much as other kids his age but it was necessary for him to grow properly and he was never overweight. Does keeping him upright after feedings help with the acid reflux? I know feeding too much at once can make the acid reflux worse in some cases but maybe you should increase the amount you give him slowly to see if you need to fit in extra feedings to satisfy his needs or if he can handle the extra amount per feeding.

Hi JB,

My son is 3 months old too and also has acid reflux. I was feeding him 3 ounces max and he would be satisfied for 3 hours. This week he started asking for more so now I give him 4 ounces during the day time feedings and he seems very content. At night he is still getting 3 ounces at a time because of the reflux. Sleeping with the stomach working at full capacity is never good for a baby with reflux. Try increasing the volume slowly and see how it goes. Soy milk is best and keep him on an upright position for at least 20 min after each feeding, including the night feedings. I also recommend the Tucker Sling sleep system, my son sleeps much better on it. It helps A LOT with the reflux and sometimes he even sleeps through the night. And of course, babies should always sleep on their back unless recommended otherwise by their ped.

I think every child is different. I have read about 3 and 4 months taking 6 or even 8 ounces. My d still only takes 4 oz at almost 8 months, though she is eating other foods now and not taking much of bottles or bf. If he is still hungry, try a little extra. He could be going through a growth spurt. Just go slow since you have the acid reflux to deal with.
