my dad had a vasectomy, but 10 years later my mom ended up getting pregnant anyway, and Dad had it redone.
I just wanted to ask those ladies with husbands or significant others who had a vasectomy and how effective was it and did any of you become pregnant after your husbands or significant others had a vasectomy?
I read that vasectomies are more effective than tubal ligations so I am just wondering.
Thanks.

Ours was a success...he had it done about 3 years ago! So far so good!
I agree with Julie, having it done has made our sex life a lot more enjoyable.
My hubby got one when daughter (now almost 16) was 2. It was effective but I was overly cautious and continued on my bcp until my hysterectomy about 8 yrs ago. Only after the complete hysterectomy did I feel totally free!!
My husband had his 14 years ago. I've never worried.
I'm sure the effectiveness depends on how it was done. With my husband's they snipped, cauterized then clipped the tubes backwards. I remember hearing stories as a nurse that if they were just snipped and stapled, the staples could work loose and the ends of the tubes could actually rejoin.
We elected for my husband to get the vasectomy, because it is a much lower risk procedure than a woman getting her tubes tied.
My husband had a vasectomy 7 years ago and I've never been pregnant since. Like Lori said, it's the way that it is done that determines the effectiveness. My husband had the same procedure as hers.
I never worry about getting pregnant and that has made sex a lot more enjoyable!
Good luck to you in whatever you decide.
My husband had his vasectomy 2 years ago after having 3 kids in 3 1/3 years. No surprises and 12 hours of down time. Best decision we ever made.
My husband had one and that was our birth control for 7 years until I had to have a hystorectomy. My dad had one also and has never had kids for the rest of his life. The key is to get retested six months later, or maybe its less time now, and use birth control until you do get rechecked!!!
My hubby had it done about 2 years ago. He had a no incesion one. I guess they just take a needle and cut it that way, I wasn't there for it. He was really sore for about 3 days, back to normal after a couple weeks. No problems or pregnancies.
100% effective. Once we were both sure we no longer wanted children, hubby called the doctor, that was about 8 years ago.
My DH had it done a little over 4.5 years ago after our youngest was born. All has been well! Sadly after my DH had it done we found out (the hard way) that he is allergic to Percaset (sp?) the pain killer. Just a heads up (& you may not want to tell your DH), but my DH told me that the 2 shots he got felt like he was getting kicked in the scrotum. I was in the room (for support) & even got to see the prcedure.
God bless!
