I have tried EVERYTHING (that i know of) to get my 1 year old to drink water. I have started from about 5 months old or so with different sippy cups and what not. I can sometimes get her to take a few sips from a glass, but she usually just bites on it or plays with it. I tried mixing water with a bit of juice, i've tried warm water, i've tried bottle, i've tried 3 different sippy cups (but she just bites on it). I try all day long here and there, but she just pushes the cups away unless she wants to bite on them. SHe is still breastfed, but i'm concerned cause her skin is dry on her legs and she is regularly constipated. Not sure what else to do or try! HELP!

What can I do next?

My son likes when we put ice in his sippy cup.

Or maybe try one of the straw cups?

My son did this too. She's probably getting enough from the breastmilk and she's not thirsty. When she's thirsty she'll want water. My son started wanting water at about 14-16 months or so. Her dry skin and constipation could be from something you're eating. My children (all five of them UGH!) couldn't handle when I ate dairy while breastfeeding. They had all kinds of horrible symptoms including the ones you mentioned. If I stayed away from dairy, they were fine. It could be another food too. Good luck!

I got my daughter started on drinking water by putting a bunch of ice in it and telling her that it goes 'jingle jingle' when she shakes it and we also call it power water around here - seems to work LOL
Good Luck

Try mixing it with your breast milk and adding less and less breast milk until its only water. Not sure if it will work. Other wise keep offering it and give it time. My children chewed on them a lot. Try finding one with a different nipple your child could be having a hard time getting anything out of it.

I suggest that at 1 year she doesn't need to drink water. She's getting enough liquid from her nursing. For the constipation, give her grape or prune juice or prunes. She could have whole grain crackers. Increased water is only one way to help fight constipation.

As to her dry skin, it's winter. Many have dry skin because of heating our houses. Use a lotion or cream.

The ONLY way i was able to get my little guy to drink water was to add ice to it, he prefers it very cold, the same way he likes juice so I mix his juice with water and ice. Even in cooler weather like now that's how he takes it.
