mushroom soup. I'm a vegetarian and mushroom is my favorite.
Or Alton Brown has a leek potato that is super yummy and simple to make.
maybe open house is the wrong word. about 10 ladies and it happens to be over the dinner hour so 5-7 but all at one time not rolling in like an open house, but not a sit down dinner. I figured a cheese and cracker tray, and apple and carmel dip and grapes tray. A Couple big salads, probably just bagged from the grocery store with some croutons and dressings on the side, and then i was thinking a crock pot of soup
one is a vegetarian, and I don't like broccoli soup, does anyone have a soup suggestion??
I was planning on serving, Wine and bottles of water and some sodas.
Oh and i'd like to make a homemade dessert too, nothing with apples. but something easy to serve. I get anxious at my kids beday parties slicing cake and serving icecream-weird i know.
So does that sound adequate, too much? too little??
Does wine go wtiththis??
Any soup recipies and any yummy desserts???
I'm not very experienced with this so i'm needing a little reassurance.

I agree with what all the ladies said - wine does go with everything!! And I second the potato soup suggestion - I just went to a soup recipe exchange in the neighborhood this week, and we have a neighbor that is vegetarian, and she made potato leek soup, it was great. So were all the other potato soups, and that is pretty easy to make. You could even have some little cornbread mini muffins to go with it. You can make those the day before and keep them sealed up so they stay fresh. You could do brownies and cookies too that way you don't have to cut them up and you could make them the day before too. Sounds like you are going to have a nice party. You can also google potato soup recipes to get one that you like. Allrecipes.com usually has my favorite recipes. Good luck!!
Sweetie, wine goes with everything! I used to make a vegetarian chili-where the substitute for meat was squash-zucchini and yellow-it was very good-this isn't the recipe I used-it's been a while-but this looks good and tells you what wine to serve:

here's a nice salad dressing recipe:

I also like to make this dessert-you serve it with ice cream-but the guests can dish up their own-this is chocolate pecan cobbler:

Have fun!
Lentile soup is vegetarian, could be vegan. Bagged salads have just been recalled because of Listeria. If you are doing salad add tomatoes, celery cucumber, green pepper, onions, ect even if you have them in separate bowls. Offer 2-3 dressing choices. Coffee & tea choices are also nice. Deserts, if you are having b-day cake you shouldn't need anything else. But a fruit pizza would be nice, you could also have cut up melon in a bowl. French bread with butter on the side to dunk in the soup.
Sounds great!
Maybe throw in some rolls or other bread, to make it more filling.
You can do a creamy leek potato soup, most people love this, just use vege bullion instead of chicken (lots of recipes on allrecipes.com.)
I think for dessert, something simple that doesn't require utensils, like brownies, cookies and/or some kind of bars, arranged on a pretty plate or tray.
Small dishes of candy and nuts are a nice and pretty touch too :)
And wine goes with EVERYTHING lol!!!
Have fun!
Wine goes with everything ;-)
For the soup, maybe you can do a cheddar potato soup, vegetarian chili or lentil soup.
Everything you are serving sounds great. You might want to add a little protein in there. Like maybe a crock pot with a ground beef/corn/salsa/cream cheese dip to go with tortilla chips. Or just marinated meatballs. Mini quiches (Costco) are always a favorite.
If you want to save money on water, put out ice water in a huge pitcher instead of the bottles.
Desserts: I recently made brownies from a box mix, but I added broken pretzels, chocolate chips, and rolos to one batch. For another batch, I added chocolate chips, broken graham crackers, and marshmallows on top for s'mores brownies. I got the idea from a recent magazine. It's fairly cheap and easy to make.
Good luck! I love having people come to my house, but the thought of entertaining fills me with anxiety!
i think it sounds like a fantastic evening! have fun and everything will be perfect (:

I'm vegetarian and frequently wish people would not worry so much about it. I tend to find food just fine! Some vegetarian soup options...tomato, cream of tomato, vegetable, lentil, cream of potato, potato leak, corn chowder, etc. Personally, I don't care for mushrooms, but they are also a vegetarian option. You might add some type of bread option...mini-croissants, hawaiian bread, cornbread muffins, or dinner rolls. I figure that if you have cheese and grapes, wine of course, goes right along with it.
butternut squash soup is a great vegetarian option - very rich and filling. I put chopped bacon and sour cream on the side for those who do not feel so restricted. It is also dairy, gluten, and nut free so it's great for others who are food sensitive. And very easy to make and keep warm.
Cupcakes are great for a party - can be dressed up or down and are single serve.
Sound sgood to me but I would probably do a few other salad toppings--cucumber, tomato, crumbled cheese....
