M..
I know this is pretty late.... but I used to get migraines all the time. I would take a medication from the Dr, but it would make me so sleepy. So my Dr suggested Vanquish and I have never had to use a migraine medicine again.
Good Luck!
Tomorrow is my first day back to work in 2 years (so nervous) and I have a horrible mirgraine. Yesterday was worse (vomiting, spotty flashy lights when my eyes opened, extreme head pain). Today I am able to sort of function but just a big headache. I have taken Excedrin which has help slightly with the head pain, but still having a lot of noise and light sensitivity. Anyone else have a suggestion on what to take to ease the pain. I don't want to start a new job looking and feeling like crud.
Thanks!

Try one naproxen with two Excedrin for Migraine and shoot it with caffiene. My doctor calls that the Migraine bomb. The aspirin and tylenol deal with the pain, the naproxen is anti inflammatory to help stop the cause of the pain, caffiene makes it all work faster and pick you up a bit. If that doesn't work you can go to the Urgent Care or ER and ask for Imatrix or Tordinol. I've had a migraine that lasted several days and then had Tordinol (muscle relaxant) knock it right out.
Hope you feel better very soon!
WATER! OBSCENE amounts of water.
THE CHEAP Equate Headache meds work REALLY well. I WONDER what they PUT in them?!
You may want to pack your head in ice and TRY to sleep.
WORSE case senario...go to the ER and get an Immitrex shot. They work ALMOST instantly. I've done it once after I had one for FIVE DAYS. I cried the way there and cried AFTER it stopped. It was THAT bad.
Good luck with going back to work.
My husband has suffered with horrible migraines for years. Chiropractic care and a good absorbable multivitamin/mineral complex has helped him tremendously in preventing them. Once he has one I give him a Calcium/Magnesium complex. Sometimes that knocks it out. If that doesn't work, his silver bullet is 1/4 teaspoon CHILDRENS LIQUID BENADRYL (not the generic, not the colorless and not a pill...not even sure the med is what helps...it could be one of the fillers or colors in it, lol) and 1 Excedrin Migraine. It works EVERY single time. It works better if he takes it early in the pain better than later but it does work for him. Everyone's trigger is different...your's may simply be stress as starting a new job can put all sorts of pressure on you. It might go away once you get there too!
God bless...Hope this helps.

Don't migraines just suck? Go to a doc in the box or ER and get a shot for the pain (imitrex) and a shot for the nausea (phenergan). Go home and go to bed! So sorry you're dealing with this, but you need the meds to make the migraine go away, and you need the sleep to help take your mind off of it so you don't stress and add to it. Rebound migraines can occur if you take too much over the counter meds like Excedrin, so watch how many you're taking. Feel better soon!
I'm so sorry you are going through this, I have had migraines as well for 25 years. As Dawn said, there are so many migraine medications that you should probably look at, some do absolutely nothing for me. Stress absolutely brings mine on, sounds like this is your case this weekend. I have a great therapist at a Massage Envy (open weekends!) that works on my head, neck and shoulders for an hour. It allows me to relax and get to a much better place. If you can't do that, you have to take it easy! This could easily be a multi-day episode. Good luck!!
So sorry you are having to deal with this right before going back to work! If you are able to do so, I agree with the suggestion of getting a massage to help relieve some of the tension in your head and neck. If you can't get a professional one, perhaps someone in your family would be willing to do that for you? I am the kind of migraine sufferer who never got relief from migraine pain with any meds, whether over the counter or prescription. I have even gone to the hospital and not gotten relief from the pain. About 18 months ago, a friend introduced me to a nutritional supplement that has helped me dramatically with my daily headaches and migraines. Instead of having migraines that last for days with no relief, they now last for 12-24 hours. I also get them less frequently. It has been a true answer to prayer for me. If you'd like info about it, let me know. It could be a great way for you to prevent them in the future. I know two friends who have not had one in the year they have been taking it. Good luck on your first day tomorrow! I hope it is a GREAT day for you-- and pain free!

I recommend the Excedrin for Migraine as well! WOW!! What a difference those 2 little pills made for me! I've also heard that lecithin can help with migraines. When I spoke to my doctor recently about what brings them on, I was surprised to learn that certain foods can trigger can them, and stress is a HUGE contributor!!
Imitrex is the only thing that works for me. I have tried so many over the counter meds and sometimes it makes it worse. Call your doc for a prescription or go to the ER for Imitrex. Good luck with your new job. Go in a dark room and lie down, sometimes an ice pack helps as well.
I suffered with migraines for over 30 years. It turned out the main cause was an undiagnosed hole in my heart.
But Shaklee supplements made them tolerable. I would be happy to tell you what I took if you are interested.
Ibuprofen plus caffeine helped some. You might try Advil PM plus caffeine and get a good nights sleep. Neither Excedrin nor Imitrex helped me very much and sometimes the Imitrex made them worse.
I had the SAME thing the day before i went back to school (for the first time in 4 years) two weeks ago!
I just had to drink a bunch of water and lay down and try to relax, i knew it was a stress migraine.
try to relax as much as you can
DONT drink caffeine!!!! it makes it worse!
If you need something hot to drink, make it a soothing herbal tea (something with peppermint or ginger in it)
take a warm shower or bath
What helps you relax? music? certain scents? meditation?
do anything you can to relax yourself and your migraine should subside.
good luck!! i know your pain!
did you take excedrin or excedrine MIGRAINE? the later works better.
Do whatever you can do to take the stress of this whole situation away. A bath, a nap, comfort food, a walk whatever it is and then hopefully your husband can give you a really nice massage to help ease your stress and pain. Also I agree with the lots of water. Many and most headaches are caused due to dehydration and with the added stress that can totally turn to a migraine
I hope you feel better soon and good luck at work tomorrow =)
Call yr doc and ask for a dose of either Imetrex or Maxault. If you take anti-depressants, maxault may not be appropriate. Both work really well.
