Does anyone have any experience with these? A Med Spa dr suggested I would be a perfect candidate because she said that it sounds like my depression is caused by hormones or peri menopause. I am on anti depressents and HATE the side effects - I am HOT all the time and have gained weight!!!! From what this dr said its not covered by insurance and you have to be under a local to put them in. I'm curious did they help you? What place did you get it done? How long did it last? What was the cost?

All help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I would talk to your doctor first. Why hasn't he suggested them if they are as good as she says? Maybe he can switch your drugs to see if there is one that you don't have the side effects with? Are you seeing a psychiatrist? What was their opinion?

Call Dr. Brendan McCarthy at ###-###-####. It's $35 per pellet, and how many depends on your personal hormonal makeup, which he determines by testing. Then he'll work with you to balance everything out until you feel great and the Hot, depression, and weight gain go away. No need for a local, he just numbs the site where they're inserted (hip), and yes it has helped! It lasts for about six months and isn't covered by insurance, but is well worth the cost for the results and the personal care from him and his staff.

R.,

I had a full hysterectomy in January which put me immediately into menopause. My OBGYN does the pellets as well as many of my friends Gyn's. Prior to my surgery I spoke to my doctor as well as many friends looking for as much advise as I could get. I found out 7 of my friends also get the pellets! From talking to friends I heard SottoPelle was the best place to have them done. They have been using the pellets for 30 years and has a paten on his pellets. They have multiple offices around the city.
I have to have a full blood work up done before each visit. They last 3 to 4 months and cost $300 each time. As far as being under a local, they give me a shot of novacain in my hip, wait 3 to 5 mins and then insert. The only down time is I can't take a bath for 3 days but showering and everything else is fine. I can tell a huge difference in my moods, in my sex drive, in my energy level. I was told not all pellets are created equal. I am happy at Sottopelle but don't have any experience with other products

I am guessing that it was a medical person at the medspa who suggested the pellets, and after they checked your hormone levels?
Yes, hormones can be used to treat depression, IF the depression is related to hormones. Just like menopause and PMS can be treated with depression meds.
Bio-identical HRT is not the same as hormones that are mass produced by drug companies. Bio-identical HRT is metabolically identical to what you body makes, where synthetic HRT is a foreign substance to your body. Like butter -vs- margarine. Suzann Summers wrote a couple of excellent books about Bio-Identical HRT, worth checking in to. I had a complete hysterectomy six years ago and have been on Bio-identical HRT since about two months after my surgery. I have used pellets and thought they are very convenient. They are actually the best route of administration for HRT, because your body uses what it needs when it needs it. And my insurance did cover most of the cost.
If you don't mind me asking, what medspa did you go to? I would consider getting a second opinion and doing some research of your own, so that you can make an informed decision.
If you have any questions I would be happy to try to answer them for you.

Have you Googled this? Not fda approved and all the risks of hormone replacement. It does not look like depression is even what they are promoting this for. The glowing endorsements are all from people who sell it. I would talk to a GYN or a psychiatrst for depression, do you even know if your hormones are out of whack? You can have that tested. The only approved use of the pellets is for men with a verified testosterone deficiency.

Hi R.,

There are so many 'safer' and natural alternatives to balancing your hormones. To begin, I would highly recommend saliva testing for your hormones just to clarify what your body needs. I teach a workshop on Hormone Balance for women and would be happy to give you some ideas, if you would like, just email me at ____@____.com

To your health!
