Hormone Inbalance

I stopped taking a birth control pill back in October, because we decided that we would like to start a family. Now that I am off, my face is breaking out and my period is always late (but not pregnant after testing eveytime it is late). I am doing the body temperature chart, but I don't really see any significant jump that happens when you are about to ovulate. I am pretty much stressed out on what I should do...maybe I should be a little more patient... Thought about going to see my doc, but wanted to gather opinions to what I should do before I go see her. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It will be almost 2 months since my last period, YIKES!!! Last time, it took 41 days, so I didn't worry too much, but this time it seems like it will go beyond 2 months. Had no typical symptoms of being pregnant, but it was on my 55th day when I decided to take a test. It came out negative, so I guess I am not pregnant. I feel fine, just major breakouts that wouldn't go away. I use fertility friend like app on my phone and check on my mucus and temperature everyday. I am 35, trying to conceive for the first time, so it might be difficult??

The liver processes hormones and anything that the liver can't process properly gets process through the largest eliminatory organ in the body - the skin. Lots of water and you might consider trying Oregon's Wild Harvest Milk Thistle.

Feeling like a teenager? Your hormones are going to take some time to adjust. You also need to increase your caloric intake (should be between 1800 and 2500) as well as your exercise (aerobic activity) to 45 minutes per day. This will help you raise your body temp and balance your hormones (respectively). Believe it or not, reduced caloric intake is associated with many hormonal issues, as is a increased (over 2000) caloric intake that is not balanced by exercise.
Make sure you are using a gentle cleanser on your face, don't pick! If you can afford it get a facial regularly until your skin balances out.
Your body should balance out in 6 months or so, however, some people need extra hormonal support. if you do see the doctor - she should test your hormones for you.
There are many who believe that good food (not processed/convenience), plenty of hydration, and at least 45 minutes of aerobic exercise per day will send you well on your way to balanced hormones.

Hi.. It takes about 3-4 months for your body to detox from the pill. Hopefully this month or next u will be back to normal. Also stress can cause break outs and prolong u from getting prego. Try not to stress. I didn't feel the temp thing worked for me as well as checking my vaginal mucus If it Doesnt grose u out Check it on your finger. Should start out thick and sticky then get watery and thin when u ovulate. When that happens have sex :)

Congrats on deciding to start a family! :-)
Heads up - Stress can really make your body go wacky. So try to not get too caught up in the stress of trying for a baby. And your body can also be rebalancing itself from coming off of the pill. Keep an eye out for patterns in your period (does it arrive every 28 days or 30 days? does it arrive every 20 days or 45 days?)
The body temp didn't work for me. I found it easier to pay attention to the cervical mucus changes.
When we decided to try, my doc advised that we should try for a year and if we weren't pregnant after a year, they would run tests, etc.
So, have relax, have fun, take a vacation and try for a baby then. ;-)

Taking birth control had a major impact on the body. After all, you are faking a pregnancy while you are on it. A woman's hormones never ever return completely to the way they were before, but they get close. That however, can take a while. Just be patient, eat well, exercise, and don't stress. Most importantly, do not take any other hormones to counterbalance this. Give your body a chance to recover on its own.
Good Luck!

There are supplements that help with hormonal imbalances. If you are interested in that approach, let me know.

Did you stop taking the pill in the middle of a pack? That can cause more severe hormonal imbalances than finishing a pack and stopping then. But even if you finished the pack, your body is going to take a while, maybe a long while, to normalize. I also stopped taking the pill a little over a year ago (husband had a vasectomy), and my periods are still not completely normal. Most of the time they come once every five weeks, but for instance, my last period came only three weeks after the previous one. Also the severity of PMS changes monthly--that's the most annoying part; I never know if I'm going to have really bad PMS or no PMS at all until it happens. But it does seem to be getting better as of the last few months.

So I guess what I'm saying is, don't stress about it; it may just take a while for things to get back to normal.

I can't advise on how this affects your chances for pregnancy. I think it's a good idea to go see your doc and ask her.

Try charting on fertilityfriend.com.

Also, cervical fluid is a huge indicator of ovulation. And try ovulation predictor kits, too.

Good luck.
