A swaddler or sleep sack will help and if you want to watch him in his crib then get a video monitor.

I used sleep sacks with both kids as well as long sleeved and footsie pajamas. I did not want to use blankets or anything at that age either for fear of suffocation-which is highly unlikely I know-but anyway. I still use our baby monitor so I can hear the little one, although it is not the video one, I just checked on him often-maybe too often sometimes-LOL!
If your concerned with him being warm and not using blankets. Why don't you use blanket sleepers?
I would put him in pajamas and keep the crib next to my own bed so you can easily check on him at night when you are worried and can also bring him into your bed for a cuddle when he wakes up. Then when he falls back asleep you can put him back in his crib without having to carry him to a different room. If you want to keep him in your bed, that is okay too.
Use Sleep Sack Wearable Blankets, they are great!
I put our baby to bed in a cotton onesie - long sleeves in winter with PJ's on top and a blanket sack sleeper thingy over that. I use the thick fleece kind for winter and a cotton t-shirt type material for summer. It doesn't get too cold in Concord so you shouldn't worry too much. If a baby is too warm it can cause SIDS. the room can be between 68-71 degrees.
My hubby keeps the AC on full blast otherwise I wouldn't bother with the blanket sleeper this time of year ;)
Hi Z., Congratulations on your baby. YOu sound like a great momma.
Some concrete thoughts:
1. Is your baby wearing warm pajamas at nite so you don't have to worry about a blanket? Nice thick cotton pajamas are good.
2. If you choose to transition your baby to the crib at nite, I would do it gradually. Let him fall asleep in bed with you as he is used to and then move him to the crib gently. Can you keep the crib in your room at first until he is used to sleeping there at nite and then slowly move the crib to his own room at some point in time. Or you can keep the crib in your room for a while.
3. Can you get a copy of the book "No Cry Sleep Solution" by Elizabeth Pantley?? It will have some other gentle ideas to deal with the issue.
Blessings.
My baby never liked the sleep sacks. As soon as she was born she did not want to be swaddled, she wanted to stretch out. So I bought feety pajamas, fleece pajamas, or longsleeve/long pants pajama sets. If you also don't think they are warm enough put them in a onsie then zip them up in a pair of feety pajamas. Be careful your baby isn't too warm, you don't want to overheat your baby either! We are entering the months in california were the weather is crazy hot one day then chilly the next, so be careful! Good luck!
This is how we have slept with all our babies. I find it very comforting that first year to make sure their okay and warm enough.Everyone sleeps good. My last baby is now 20 months old(not much a baby anymore) . She continues to go between our bed at night and the crib for naps. I don't thing you should change anything if it's working. But you did say you want to put him in the crib. I would have him sleep in the warm cozy sleepers with a onesie underneath. Best wishes
Use a O. piece jammies with feet or a sleeveless sleep sack/vest.
Z.,
You want to take him swimming and are afraid he won't be warm enough in bed? Well, I would use the sleeper sacks or swadel him if he likes that. Not so sure I would take him swimming yet, but that needs a more educated answer. Every child is different.
Blessings.....
I am a faithful user of Halo sleep sacks. They sell them at Babies R Us. You zip them in over their jammies to avoid having to use a blanket.
We swaddled my daughter until she was about 3 months, then we moved to a sleep sack. She is just over a year now, and I've stopped using the sleep sack b/c she's actually been getting too hot. Now she just sleeps in her jammies. I check on her at night and her head/hands/feel are still pretty warm. You might need to try a couple of different sleep sacks or jammies until you find the one that works for you.
Good luck!
I know I'm a little late, but I wanted to chime in. Babies are generally warmer than we adults. Given the season, a good blanket sleeper will keep him nice and warm.
If it's cold where you are just put him in a warm sleeper that zips all the way up. He'll be fine.
