So when I got pregnant 3+yrs ago, I developed a hernia from heavy lifting at work. It protrudes behind my bellybutton, not all the time, but when I do alot of physical activity. Lately I've been trying to excercise and lose weight, but last night when I was walking on the treadmill it really began to hurt!! It feels alot better today, but does anyone know what I can do? ASIDE from surgery (I don't have insurance or the money right now) my doc says it's not severe enough to get emergency surgery, so is there any kind of exercises I can to to strengthen the abdominal area without hurting myself further??

I really need to lose the weight, and I can't if I am unable to exercise!

What can I do next?

I got one about 2 inches above my belly button when i was 12 i believe it happened playing basketball. I lived with it for 9 or so years and if it hurt i would push it back in and then it would be tender but it worked. Then I met my husband and he was like you need to get that fixed before we have kids I did. It hurt and I got pregnant with my second and oops there it was again it came back. Ive lived with it for 5 years. Once again if it hurts I kinda push it back in (its kinda gross) but now im going in for gallbladder surgery and when I met with the surgeon last week he felt it and wants to fix it since Ill already be under and he will be in the area so i guess i will get it patched up and it better not come back. Not sure if its helpful but thats my story.

I thought I had one a few months ago and researched the crud out of it. I couldn't find anything that would help. The only thing I can think of is working your abs, back, girdle area but in a way that doesn't cause the hernia to protrude further. Plates is a good exercise for this since it focuses on the core.
