I've made Patti LaBelle's mac and cheese several times and it is DELICIOUS. Here's the recipe (from Oprah's website): http://www.oprah.com/foodhome/food/recipes/food_20020726_...
This year for Thanksgiving, it will be my first with my fiance's family and my job is to bring a home made mac and cheese dish. I have never made one from scratch before and was overwhelmed with how many recipes there are online. Some are made with milk, others soup, and some with eggs. Moms, PLEASE send me a recipe that is tried and TRUE. I'd like to make a mac and cheese dish that is old fashioned yet with interesting cheeses and a crusty top. I don't want it custard style or with ham, bacon, etc. Only send me a recipe that you have actually tasted and can assure me is DELICIOUS. I'd be so embarrassed to bring a disappointing dish to Thanksgiving. Thanks SO much!!! :)
Thanks SO much for all your recipes!!! I ended up trying the Patti Labelle recipe that 2 of you recommended and added some bleu cheese for a distinctive taste and it was a HIT! Thanks so much! :)

Hi-
I make Martha Stewart's mac and cheese. Just go to her web site and search for macaroni and cheese to find the recipe. It uses white cheddar and Gruyere, which gives it a distinctive taste. It is delicious! They say it's her most requested recipe. Good luck!
Tried & true- use what ever pasta- tubes or shells or a mix. After boiling & drained, put in baking dish- add 1 egg, 1/4 cup milk, salt/pepper, 1/2 of a Velveta cubed and shredded Colby Monterey jack cheese. Mix until well blended- top w/ provolone & some shredded cheese & pepper. Bake @ 350 for about 30-45 min. - until cheese is brown & bubbly on top. Enjoy!!!- let me know how it taste! We are close in age- I'm 31- and my precious girl was born May 21 '05- let me know if you want to join our playgroup!
Im with the one below, the Patti Labelle mac n cheese is the best.... so good and is our recipe now at all family dinners. Cant remember if the orig had sour cream but if not add a small container of it, makes it even better and we use large shells and sometimes rigatoni to change it up a bit in place of the elbows...and at times even add half a small container of cottage cheese. All great. Good luck.
This from Martha Stewart's show. It's always a hit! It will completely fill a 9 X 12 baking dish. We usually use half of everything because it seems to go pretty far.
Ingredients: 1 lb elbow macaroni, 3 cups of milk, 4 Tbsp tomato paste, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 3 cups grated cheddar (we've used mixtures of other cheeses too), 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, 1 tsp salt.
Cook the macaroni according to package directions.
In a large pot, heat milk and tomato paste, then add cheese and other ingredients until it's all melted. Add the cooked pasta and stir. Pour cheesy pasta into a buttered casserole dish and bake 30 - 45 min.

This receipe comes from my grandma (and I grew up eating it and have made it several times so it is taste tested and approved!) Its pretty easy too, I made it for my son's b-day party and everyone liked it!
8 oz package of macaroni
1 can of evaporated milk
about 1 1/2 lbs of cheese
Start by cooking pasta (boiling) it till tender
spray or grease your pan (about 9x13, I use glass bakeware it seems to work best for this kind of recipe)
Drain and poor the pasta into the dish
You can use basically any kind of cheese you want I think Veleveeta, American, and Mexican cheese blend are good together
Cut up your Veleveeta into small squares and scatter on top
scatter the american cheese (shredded or if you have slices, tear and scatter on top) The Mexican blend comes shredded so finish with putting that on top till its covered good. Pour the evaporated milk evenly accross the top. Bake at 350 for about 30-45 mins (depending on your oven, start at 30 I would suggest) (Oh yeah, I did sprinkle some parmesean cheese on top and covered with foil)

I do have a delicious one. EMAIL me at ____@____.com and I will give it to you. I have to type it up. A friend gave it to me and in my opinion it was to die for.
Hi Alexandra,
I have tried so many macaroni and cheese recipes! I've tried some that use cheddar, Worchestershire sauce, or other types of cheese. But, I found that the ones that use cheddar don't come out as cheesy as the ones that use Velveeta. So, here's my favorite - we love it so much I have to double the recipe.

Good luck with it! Let us know how it turns out!
