Help with Two Year Old Eczema

I have a two year old boy that has eczema. I was prescribed an ointment with a low dose of steroid in it. I really want to stop using this ointment and look into more diet, or lotions (minus steroid). I wondered what everyone else is using to clear up toddler exzema.

What can I do next?

My pediatrician told me to try Eucerin and if that didn't work then she would give him the steroid. That worked really well. Also my Grandma said she had it as a child and used bag balm so we got some of that.It is more greasy but it worked! They also have baby wash especially for Excema and you can get it at walmart. There are a couple different brands. You might try that on top of a lotion.

My son had the same thing when he was younger. The doctors told me to use Cortizone or Eucerin lotion. Both were expensive when I had to lather him down with them all the time. I talked with a pharmacy and they told me to use straight Vitamin E lotion on him. I'm not sure if you have heard any of these suggestions. He ended up with eczema so bad that it looked like he was burnt in his joints so I bought the Vitamin E lotion. First, I would put Neosporin on him till the skin wasn't broken (sometimes I would have to cover the area after applying the neosporin)and then I would cake on the Vitamin E lotion once the skin wasn't broken. If the skin is still broken it will burn when the lotion is applied. I would only give him a bath about once a week. If he got dirty I would just wipe him down with a soapy wash cloth and cake the lotion on again. After a few months of doing this he got better but I still stuck with once a week a bath and would cake him in Avon's hand cream with oatmeal, not the body lotion the HAND CREAM it is thicker. He is now going on 7 and doesn't have the problem anymore. I hope this gives you insight into something new to try and I hope you find something that works for you and your little one.

Hi C.,

My little one was diagnosed with eczema when she was two years old, the doctor prescribed (like yours) ointments with steroids and one moisturizer....I had a sample of a wonderful lotion specially formulated to cure most types of skin problems (from eczemas to sun burn) and it is an amazing moisturizer (that's why I always have one in my purse). I showed it to the doctor and told me to try because ethwe ingredients where great. I started using it twice daily and the eczema was gone in just a few days. No need to buy prescriptions or poison her little body with steroids.

The name is Renew, and actually comes form a company that focus on wellness and prevention and has all naturally based products without harsh chemicals that help people to get better and healthier products for their families at a wholesale price. Yes, I have been a customer for over a year and wouldn't switch this products for anything! They are a lot better and are also less expensive. They also manufacture soaps for daily uses that helps with eczema. If you are interested please let me know or visit my website and fill in your info so I can personally call you and give you all the details about it. It is a wholesale club kind of like Costco or San's in where you need a membership of only $29 to be able to purchase this amazing products.

I don't really do the business but since I believe in this products so much, I do recommend them to people that can benefit form them, well... anybody can benefit from better products at a discount price:)

Hope your son gets better soon!

i work for a dermatologist. we recommend eucerin alot to our patients. eucerin makes several great products. their lotions and creams are all good. they have a calming cream that works great for itch. they also have aquaphor which is a healing ointment that works great for everything from scrapes and cuts to diaper rash.

p.s. i don't work for eucerin, i just really like their stuff.

My daughter was diagnosed with Eczema and I too was fearful of all the prescription steriod creams my doctors were prescribing for her. A friend convinced me after a lot of resistance to try Arbonne's ABC Baby Line. I finally gave in b/c I had nothing to lose. I am proud to say that she has not had an outbreak since I started using it. She is now 3 years old. I have a 4 month old that has showed signs of it, and after using only Arbonne's ABC Line and using Target Brand of 'Dreft', he has had no issues.

I joined Arbonne only to be a consultant who receives the 35% off and have not fully pursued the opportunity to earn extra income. I am sharing this with you only because I know how heartbroken a mom can be seeing her child's skin in this condition. I have some samples of this line that I would happily send to you. I purchased them as hand out for a baby shower and to share with my friends. No pressure... I just am offering you to give it a try.

FYI--- Arbonne's philosophy is pure, safe, beneficial. They pride themselves on natural ingredients. You can learn more @

Message me and I would happily send you some samples so that you can see if it helps your two year old's eczema.

My youngest gets occasional flareups of exzema and when she does I use Aveenos oatmeal lotion. I like all there lotions but the oatmeal seems to work best on the exzema, she also likes it because it doesn't burn (she thinks the prescribed steroid creams burn). You can find it at Walmart, Target, and most drug stores.

Eucerin worked great for us. That and we switched our soap to Oil of Olay, Dove also works good too. (Fragrance Free) Cleared right up and I never had to fill the prescription.

My best friend has been using Jordan Essentials Satin Shea Body Butter on her little boy since he was 9 months old. She started out with unscented, but now she has moved to the baby powder or Oatmeal Milk & Honey fragrances. He's 4 years old now. Has rare fareups, and when he does, they are gone again in a day or two with consistent use of the body butter. She is a nurse and also wanted to avoid steroids. She now recommends this to everyone with eczema.

My 11 year old son has eczema on his elbows and this is also what he uses, but since he's a "big" boy, he uses our men's Coastal Blue fragrance like his daddy. :)

I highly recommend it. It's also far less costly than prescriptions, and the whole family can use it. I've heard of other people trying to use the Walmart or Bath & Body Works brands and they don't work because they have too many other added ingredients that counteract the shea butter.

If you'd like to try it for a few days, just to see, I can send you a sample. Just e-mail me. I'm not pushing for a sale, I really KNOW this will help your little boy, as our company has hundreds of customers who use it specifically for their eczema.

Hope you'll give it a try.

My daughter is almost 2 years old...in September. She suffers from eczema really bad to as well as my husband. I took her to the doc a few months back and she told me to get hydrocortizone cream otc and put that on all the spots...not everywhere just the rough patches. After I put that on she said to put Eucerin lotion from head to toe. Once the rough patches are cleared she said to put the Eucerin lotion head to toe after each bath. I haven't had a problem since then. We put the lotion on her every morning when she gets up and every night before she goes to bed. I use the Eucerin Calming Creme lotion. It is a little pricy I think it is like $8 or $9 for a bottle of it but a little goes a long way. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. You can find the lotion at any pharmacy or wal-mart or Target.

My daughter has eczema, too. Her doctor gave us a new liquid called Hylira. It doesn't have any steroids in it and a drop will go a long way. It took 3 days to clear up a large patch on her elbow. You might look into that. It is new so there isn't a generic for it just yet so it may cost a bit more but it is totally worth it!

I can imagine that you are concerned about using a steroid cream for a long time--who knows what the side effects are. I know of a really great lotion that can help your little one. It's called Renew, and it's clinically proven to help all types of skin disorders, including eczema. Many times, I've heard stories of how this lotion has cleared up eczema and he;ped prevent breakouts for years!!

Many common health problems, such as allergies, eczema, and asthma are all linked to the chemicals we use in our homes every day. I am a proud member of The MOM (Mothers on a Mission) Team and our focus is to educate families about the effects of chemicals and help them make a safer choice for themsleves, their children, and the environment.
