Help with Three Week Old Baby and Switiching Formula

I am switching my three week old baby from Enfamil Milk "Ready to Feed" to Enfamil Gentlease powder. The "Ready To Feed" formula was working great with my daughter, but I decided to switch since the milk has to be refrigerator all the time. I am also breastfeeding.

The powder formula is giving her a gas and making her very uncomfortable. I gave her gripe water to soothe her over.

Should I continue to give her the powder or switch back to "Ready to Feed"? Or does this process take time for the baby to get adjusted?

Abrupt changes in diet often bring on abdominal distress in babies. I would go back to the old formula until her stomach is quieted down. Then try mixing in a little of the new formula with the old. Try about a quarter of bottle with new formula to start. Give it at least a week with her not reacting before you go 50/50. Then progress to 75% watching to see how she tolerates it. The change should be gradual and given plenty of time for her to adjust. If she doesn’t tolerate the 25% you may want to just use the old formula.

my SIL put mtlecon in the bottle and watched the bubbles dissipate. It was only a few drops. you could stir it instead of shake it too.

Good advice from Dana. Also, this is right around the time when babies start to get into their fussy stage...this will last until they're about 3-4 months. You'll notice lots of little tummy gas. If the formula switching doesn't help, try Isomil formula (it is soy based and helped me a lot with my 3 kids). At ~ 6 months, when their tummies were a bit sturdier, I switched to regular formula.
Good luck and cherish every precious moment with your daughter----they really do grow up way too fast!!!

Can you exclusively breastfeed her for a minimum of six months? A year, if possible?

Your daughter is uncomfortable for a very good reason. Enfamil, and other such "baby formulas" are inferior "foods" for babies. They are full of chemicals, sugars, genetically-modified organisms and excitotoxins. Most importantly, there are no beneficial living enzymes present to properly feed her cells.

If you must utilize a formula right now, I can help direct you to better sources of nourishment. Or do some research online about these "formulas".

Thank you for asking the question. Your daughter is wise to have a mom who cares enough to ask it. You are setting up her quality of life right now.

I was always told gradual. Make bottles 3/4 RTF and 1/4 Gentlease for a couple of days. Then 1/2 and 1/2 for a couple of days. And then 3/4 Gentlease and 1/4 RTF for a couple of days. And then eliminate the RTF altogether. Good luck.

Try Similac lactose free formula. The lactose sugar in formula bothers many babies. When I have had to use formula with 2 of my 3 kids, I used lactose free powder formula and they did fine.
In fact, with our 6 month old, I had to cold turkey wean her from breastfeeding at 3 months when I was urgently hospitalized and put on medication that was unsafe for nursing. We put her on the lactose free formuala without any tummy problems.
With my oldest child, when I went back to work we had to find a formula for him when he was 9 months old. The only formula he could tolerate was lactose free. Soy didn't even work, in fact, it was the worst tolerated by him.
