My adult daughter has several friends who've battled adult acne and found great success with adding zinc to their daily supplements.
Hi ladies! I know you will be able to help me. In the last 8 months my face skin is acting so weird! I now have an "acne" kind of problem going on my face (never had it on my teens, now at 40sh...is horrible!) only and have tried Clinique, over the counter stuff and currently having my hormones checked but I am starting to feel down about it so I need a great dermatologist that really is not about selling you a bunch of products, but patient and understanding. I live in the Plano/Richardson area. Thanks for all your help!

Sklar (doc mentioned here by someone else) is someone I have been seeing for years. He has a partner by the name of Dr. Fleishli (pronounced Fly-shlee). Sklar is hard to get into see, but you can see Fleishli more quickly. They can set you up with some lines that really work. Obagi is my favorite. I'm 38 and have acne and brown spots from hormones and it is an amazing product line! For a starter kit, the Obagi might run appx $200-$300, but it really does work very well! A 6 month supply is more expensive at around appx $600, BUT keep in mind, it does last a long time.
try melalueca oil otherwise known as tee tree oil found in most health food stores even walmart. you can also order it straight from the company, Melalueca, on their website if you want the pure grade stuff. its also great for toe fungus, dandruff, yeast infections, mosquito bites, insect repellent, minor cuts and scrapes, and works like God's miracle on burns(blows the doors off of aloe vera).(i keep a bottle on my kitchen window sill.) it has a refreshing eucalyptus/camphor like fragrance to it. im in my forties and i get acne type things on my face from time to time and i just rub some melalueca oil and it stops itching instantly and begins to heal the acne almost overnight. Its perfectly natural made from the melalueca plant originating from australia. do some research on it on google, you'll be amazed. soldiers during WWI actually kept a supply of the stuff in their first aid kits. its a natural antifungal, antiseptic, anesthetic. stops itching immediately, begins to deordorize immediately and begins to heal instantly.

Amazingly enough, I had success with balancing my hormones through acupuncture. Dr. Steve Homoky at Coit & Spring Creek in Plano is trained in BRT (Body Restoration Technique), and after 5 treatments, not only did my skin clear up, but my hot flashes/PMS went away, too! His # is ###-###-####.
I am 43 ....had perfect skin my whole life until about 40!
I have tried everything out there. I am an esthetician and could not correct my own skin. I finally had to go to a dermatologist. My skin cleared up instantly.
It is most surely hormones.
It is a common misconception that food causes acne. Many many recent studies have proved this theory wrong. Although poor nutrition can cause boils and cysts not really all over acne.
The product i love right now is the Anti-Stress Acne line from neutrogena.
I am a total snob when it comes to products. I really tried to find something expensive and posh but... This is the only thing that has worked for me. And its available everywhere and not expensive.
I also strongly suggest that you see a dermatologist that specializes in adult acne. I recommend Dr Max Adler. He knows how to treat adult hormonal acne and everything else. Yes he will try to sell you products because homecare is everything when it comes to healthy skin. He will not be upset if you dont buy them and is not pushy. He's great youll like him........I should get somekinda commission hehe
You poor girl I can understand your frustration. You might want to try products with benzolperoxide. I just figured out I am allergic to salic acid that is why my I have broke out in the past. Yes,believe it or not the thing that was suppose to make my acne better made it worse! I finally tried my daughters Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask and it works for me! I also use the Arbonne day/night serum that helps to remove the scars and keep my skin clear... also you might want to try these new mineral makeup's out there once again I recommend the Arbonne Mineral powder foundation it conceals all of the scars my old dermotologist left from doing injections and does not break me out =). I hope this helps =).
If you would like to try some Arbonne products I would love to help =)
Hi,
I just found a new dermatolgist, her name is Dr. Garner. 3310 Broadway, Garland, Texas 75043 ###-###-####. She was highly recommened to me. I had an appointment this week and she has 20 years experience. My past dermatolgist was recommending me get some moles cut off and when I went to her she had a different opinion. She did not think the moles looked like they needed to be cut out.
I have not talked to her about acne problems. I am sure she could help with that too. I hope you are able to find a great dermatolgist that is very helpful!

I agree! My skin started breaking out this past year. The products that have worked for me are the Avon Clearskin Acne Treatment system and the True Pore-Fection sytem (less strong). There's an Avon store at Park and Ave K or I'm sure you could find a distributer. Also, the Melaleuca Zap It products worked but Avon seemed a little better for me.
I know you are looking for a doctor but here's my 2 cents.
I've been to many dermatologists. They have given me everything prescription under the sun, and they often give you antibiotics (which I HATE taking).
I finally splurged and bought the ACNEFREE Severe kit (it's orange) from Walmart and they has brought my acne down to nearly nothing. It was the only thing lately that I have tried where something worked.
Good luck!
PR,
My 23 yr. old daughter started having the same problems you describe, yet she did not have acne as a teenager. Rather than spending alot of money on doctors, she tried a new product line that is called, "Skinlogics Sensitive" that is;
*oil free *dye free *gluten free
*fragrance free
The products also have some plant-based anti-irritants in them. Ashley' skin is much better now and we have NOT had to invest in products that do not work.(Ashley used ProActive , a product that is advertised on tv, but it was very $$ and it only helped alittle)
If you are interested in trying a sample of "Sensitive Skin", let me know and I will call the woman we bought the sampel from. (FYI_The sample only cost Ashley $12.99!)
Good luck to you,
K.
I have had the same ongoing skin problems as an adult (42) and last year discovered Arbonne's Detoxyfying Rescue Wash-it has changed my skin and my life, seriously. I even became an Arbonne rep.! If you want to try it, call me at ###-###-####. Good luck!
I go to Rodgers Dermatology, and in 4 weeks, my acne scars, freckles and age spots have been disappearing. He said I would not have good results for about 6 weeks, but it has been worth the wait. He has taken years off my face and I don't even have the final results. He doesn't push other treatments, and when he does perform the procedures, he does them himself and not someone who is not qualified.
Hi PR,
Skin problems are not on the "outside" as many people mistakenly think. The problem is actually on the inside, and the downstream resulting symptoms show up on the outside in the form of skin problems. If you are interested in treating the problem itself, you will have to look further than "skin deep" (ie. creams, dermatologists, lasers and other treatments etc.).
Acne in your 40s likely has to do with having a body that is out of balance. Hormone balance might be a challenge. After 4 decades, 3 kids, and years of stress, your body probably needs a tune up in the form of nutritional changes, supplements, detoxing, healthy sleep, exercise etc. If this is not the right path for you, stop reading and go to a dermatologist.
If you do want to fix the inside, try reading some articles on www.mercola.com about acne. He will tell you how grains and sugars in your diet can cause acne. You've got to cut out the cake, bread, pasta, etc. He recommends nutritional typing to evaluate the right diet for you. I've also found that a proper balance of healthy fat intake is also helpful to avoid acne. Transfats are a MAJOR no-no. Besides that, Americans consume too many omega6 fats in the form of vegetable oils. You want more omega3 fats - the best way to get them is a good fish oil supplement. I use Carlson's, available from Whole Foods or Mercola's website. Mercola also likes Krill oil.
Finally, detox and destress, and sleep. There are many ways to do this. You can follow your own heart and instincts on that.
The benefits of this approach are that the acne should diminish or go away, and lots of other symptoms and problems that you are either currently experiencing, or that are lurking around the corner for you, will go away as well. Menapause transition will be easier later on. You will feel more energy, sex drive, joy for life, etc.
Good luck!
Change your bed linens once a week. Change your bathroom towels particular wash cloths every other day or so. Drink water... water... water... Do not touch your face particularly with dirty hands. Stay away from sugary products... Get plenty of sleep. Wash your face mornings, evenings (after work) and of course before bedtime. Good luck.
I completely agree with Jean S...she gave you some great advice! I have discovered over the past year that all my skin problems were from the inside. I have discovered my food allergies and avoid those. I also know that skin issues can mean that your liver is struggling. I take burbur for that.
http://www.herbalremedies.com/burbur-detox.html
I take 8 drops in a glass of water (I can't taste it) about 8 times a day - you'll want to start out slower than that to make sure you aren't allergic to it.
I don't use a dermatologist, so I can't help you in that area, but cutting out the foods I am allergic to and supporting my liver have made a dramatic improvement on my skin and my health overall.
I have had the same problem. I started going to get facials about once every 6 weeks at Mont-Marie Skin Care (on Inwood near the Galleria; ###-###-####). Marie and her staff are fabulous! The facial costs about $85 and lasts close to 90 minutes; it is so relaxing and my skin is just glowing when I leave (not marked-up and red up from picking at my face like other facials I've had). They have some wonderful cleansers and facial treatments, but are not pushy about trying to sell them to you. Also, I have used ProActive on and off for years. During the times of the month when I start to break out, I wash my face and dab the ProActive Refining Mask right on the blemishes before bed. I sleep with it on my face, then wash it off the next morning and the blemishes are always much better. After a couple of nights, they are usually gone. Good luck!
I was recommended by a friend to Dr. Sklar and I like him very well. His number is ###-###-####. He's at Preston a little south of LBJ, not sure of the cross street right now. Also, my friend Susie has used a Nu Skin product for her acne for a few years and is very happy with the results. Her number is ###-###-#### if you want to get the name and more info from her.
Also, you may have rosacea. Especially likely if it's kind of in a "T", center of forehead and across cheeks.
(I recently started using Nu Skin's galvanic spa and I think you'd enjoy and benefit from that too. I'm telling everyone because you can tell a difference after one 10-minute treatment.)
Best wishes and God bless!

Hey, There is a great supplement that will help you clean the toxins out and you will have you healthy skin again. I have shared with many and great result.
Let me know if interested, money back guarantee and nothing to loose.
good nutrition (eating good stuff & avoiding processed, trans fatty, dairy, sugary, white-floury kinds of foods & bevs) can go a looooong way
supplementing with a fish oil, calcium, vitamin c, and possibly using a progesterone cream can help as well, but they should be #2 on your priority list -- that's the hard part, for me at least. yes, it's important to avoid that "all or nothing" mentality regarding nutrition, but i quite often have to remind myself that the focus should be on nutrition more-so than on supplementation (i have been known to spend three days on google trying to vett out the perfect fish oil supplement to buy and then that weekend eat a large frozen pizza ;P kinda silly. but hey, i try really hard most of the time!)
and, FWIW, here are some sources i recommend:
fish oil:
http://www.brownwoodacres.com/sockeye_salmon_oil.htm
or
http://www.vitalchoice.com/shop/shop2.cfm?category=19#s50...
calcium:
Bluebonnet Liquid Calcium Magnesium Citrate
vitamin C:
Sodium Ascorbate (powder, take by pinches b/c doseage need not be exact); i like Source Naturals or NOW brands
progesterone cream:
Healthy Progesterone Cream, USP Progesterone, *NOT* synthetic progesterone, pump 4.4 oz dispenser (2 things to beware:
1) no one can get a patent for natural progesterone itself, just a delivery system (i.e. a transdermal patch or a specialized dispenser) for this reason ($$$), the pharmaceutical industry has done a good job of getting doctors to recommend against natural progesterone and prescribing synthetic progesterone - the reasons can sound scientific and scary to the patient (involving rhetoric like "National Institutes of Health studies" etc.) but it's biased research, bad science, and primarily a money game - no doubt about it, and
2) beware the yam scam! -- yams do not contain progesterone, only a precurser to it called diosgenin; progesterone can be formed from in the laboratory (thus the USP) and it is bio-identical and considered natural progesterone; the term natural stands in contrast to synthetic progesterone such as that in provera...)
ok -- gotta go, babe's waking...HTH!
I had the same happen to me at the same age. It turned out to be rosacia (pron. rozasha) I'm not even sure if I spelled it right. I finally got on a cream from my dermatologist that works called finecea. Hope this helps.
