Help with Skin Problems

I have skin problems. My face and back. I break out often and I'm a picker. I know that doesn't help but I can't help it. I don't like chemicals and have a problem spending money on things like this. I never know what to get and sometime when I do buy something it has bad reactions to my skin. I have sensitive skin. I want something easy. I’m not very good with all the steps. I have even gone to the point of changing laundry soap, shampoo, no dairy, cutting out coffee. I watch what I eat and the only bad thing I put in my body is sugar once a week. I have gone back to coffee a couple times a week but just one cup. I’m not sure what to do. I don’t like to take medication. So asking for something is not really my style. I will break out the home remedy book before calling a Dr. I do know once I have something that works I tend to stick to it. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thank You
J. D.
PS. I think all you mothers are amazing. I really like mamasource and have to give it some kudos. Thank you.

I have the same problem and I noticed that I pick more when I'm anxious. Have you noticed when you pick? As for something that will help, I like Mary Kay. It's expensive, true, but it works for me. It's the only body lotion that I'm not allergic to. Also I don't use soap at all except shampoo for my skin. It sounds weird but it works better than soap. Good Luck.

J., I've found that any over-the-counter face wash that contains benzoyl peroxide (10%) works really well. It does sort of dry out my skin, and it also has a bleaching effect on clothes. However, it keeps my skin clear, which is worth it I think. :) See how it works. I know Clean and Clear makes a product with this in it...and maybe Oxy 10?
My husband's going back to school too. :)

When I was younger I went to see a doctor about my skin. He said that one thing you should do everyday is change your pillow cases. He said that the oil from you face gets on it and then you are just putting your clean face back into the oil every night when you sleep. I have found that really helps for me. Good luck.

A couple of ideas. I have gone to the best dermatologist in the area we used to live and he told me Dove sensitive skin for bath soap and his exact words were wash only where you are dirty. Also, Tide with Bleach for laundry soap and NO fabric softener. You can also rinse your laundry twice. One thing my primary care dr. said was sometimes when we have a virus we can break out and you need to take meds to clear it up. One last thought is ONE round of doxyciclene. I CAN NOT take it, but it may clear you up and then you can retrain yourself not to scratch. Remember you have to try one path for a little while, sometimes changing meds, creams, treatments too often is worse then no treatment. Oh yea and eucerine cream is GREAT - our pedi recommended that. If you don't like antibiotics, rubbing alcohol topically EVERY DAY may help clear it up.
Drink water, LOTS and LOTS of water!
Another thing you may try is garlic oil pills. You will probably need to take one a day for the whole bottle and that will clean your blood. Good luck skin conditions are a pain in the but and they take time to clear up.

I had many problems with it also and the only thing that I changed was how much water I drank and how much I exercised. I drink atleast 60 ounces of water a day and get some sort of physical activity everyday. I do weight training three days a week for 30 minutes and cardio five times a week for 1 hour. You don't have to do that much to see results; atleast 30 minutes a day will do it for you...I just needed to lose the baby weight anyway, lol! I hope it helps!

I have eczema very badly and in the last year I have found one line of natural products that I can actually use on my skin and my face that has helped me a ton...It is called Arbonne. It is a whole welness line and there are lots of vitamins and lotions and creams, I know that it is the only thing in 28 years that is not a steroid cream that has helped me. If you are interested give me a note back and I can give you a name of someone who could help you learn alot more about it, cause I don't sell it, I just use it!

Hi J.!

It's so hard having skin problems. Seems like it is just a curse. I have had really bad eczema all my life and oh boy, the pain of it. And when you have problems with your face it's so hard because that's the first thing people see, so I understand where you're coming from.
I found a company that has some fantastic products. They're environmentally safe and so much better than anything I have found in the store. They're also cost effective so that was important to me to.
I would love to share them with you. What's nice is they use a lot of natural things, different botanicals and things of that sort and yet they don't cost an arm and a leg. You will absolutely LOVE them, I'm just sure of it. I know I do. My eczema has been clear for about a year (the length of time I became a customer.)
I have a website that our team uses. It's used more for the business opp but you definitely do not have to work a business, you can simply be a customer and enjoy all the products. As a preferred customer you get 30 percent off the retail prices!! It's just tremendous.
Go to my website and I'll personally call you and chat with you about the different products they have. I don't sell any of their products, just a VERY satisfied customer!

J.,
Hi. I can definitly sympathize. I used to go to a dermatologist when I was in high school but it always dryed my skin out. I also used proactive and had some luck with it as well but it never really went away for me. Just last Aug. I became a consultant with The Body Shop at home and have started using one of our skin care lines. I have had amazing results. I do however get an ocasional breakout but not like I used to. All our products are natural and will not dryout your skin or sting. I promise! We have an amazing tea tree line for acne prone skin. If you are interested let me know. Good luck!

I too have found myself with the same problem... and though you don't like the time consuming steps... I totally reccomend proactive. It only takes 5 minutes, and I have to say... when I use that, I notice a tremendous difference. I have extremely sensitive skin, and this doesn't bother me. It is $20 a month, but you can use it sparingly. I had gotten such a low self esteem since breaking out all the time, but with this, I am starting to feel better again. Worth the time... Worth the money. Good luck!

I totally understand where you are coming from. I have sensitive/oily skin and I too am a picker. Rather have a scab then nasty looking white things on me.
Have you tried Mary Kay's Velocity. They market it towards teens but this stuff is wonderful. Its gental and won't dry you out, plus it has a mostirizer that is really lite. I would recommend this to anyone.

There are some great suggestions already posted. I used to have skin problems too. I am a Mary Kay consultant, although I'm not pushy like most. I never sell any of my products for the suggested retail. The reason I do it is to make it affordable to people that just want to contact ME when they need something. If you still don't want to spend anything on an actual product I suggest changing pillow cases, try not to touch your face when not washing, and drink tons of water. I've also seen some great tips at RealSimple.com.

Exfoliate skin. Wash your face, then apply a soft paste made of three parts baking soda and one part water. Massage gently with a circular motion, avoiding the eye area; rinse clean.

Problem: Blemishes and Breakouts
Solution: When a pimple appears, place an ice pack on it for 5 to 10 minutes to reduce swelling, then pat the area dry and apply benzoyl peroxide cream or gel with a clean cotton swab, You can top it with concealer that also contains benzoyl peroxide. For blemishes and small spots, rely on sticky concealers, which come in compacts or tubes. For larger blotches or redness around the nose, use more watery liquid concealers (commonly sold in tubes), or try foundation. Both are easy to spread. For pimples, remove any flakes with a wet washcloth. Next, dab a medicated acne treatment on the pimple. Work it into the skin until it disappears. (Skip this step if you’re using a medicated concealer.) Warm some cake concealer on the back of your hand. Next, with a brush, dot a tiny bit on the middle of the pimple. Using a clean finger, push (don’t rub) it into the skin until it disappears. The key is to build thin layers. Set with a large brush and translucent powder.

Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Dear J.,
I too had struggled for years with skin problems, my skin was so sensitive, that the acne just got worse when I used products like differn and Rentin A. I too am a picker and it just got worse and worse. I kept expecting to out-grow my acne and never did. I did see a dermatologist, but the medication, Acutane that he discussed with me seemed too scary. I hate taking medication, and this one seemed to be the mother of all medications. After fighting my acne for 2 more years, I finally decided it was worth a try. I was engaged and starting my career and was tired of hiding behind my acne. The acutane worked wonders for me. It cleared me up within a month, and I have been virturally acne free since then. The side-effects were difficult, but well worth my self-esteem. I am less irritable and more social now. I am not afraid to put myself out there and take risks. While I was on the acutane, my skin was even more sensitive to soaps and washing. I found that the best products for me was clinque. I still use them almost 2 years later and love them! They can be a bit spendy, but just to give you an idea, I've been using it for over 2 years and just bought my second bottle of face wash. So, it is spendy but last a long time. Best of luck to you, I would encourage you to at the very least visit with a dermatologist, the acutane treatment is only a few months long, and the results are amazing!

J.,
It is so frustrating to have skin problems. It can really hurt your self-esteem and self-image. I have had problems in the past too. I started making my own products in an attempt to help my skin and stay away from harsh chemicals. Avoid products with alcohol and do not use anything with mineral oil. It clogs your pores and won't allow it to breath or heal. Good luck

I have had terrible problems with acne since I was about 10 years old. I tried everything anyone would suggest. I went from some of the cheep stuff to some amazingly expensive stuff. Most of the things made it worse!!! I finally went with something I read in one of those teen magazines. It was the gold Dial soap and some sort of moisturizer at night. I am now pretty much acne free. Of corse I am in my early forties and should be acne free by now. I do have a break out once in a great while. One of the main causes for my acne was the pollution in the town I lived in. Once I movd out to the country, my skin cleared up alot. My children are now suffering with the problem and won't listen to me. They insist on trying everything their friends try. (You know Moms and Dads don't know anything when you are a teenager);} Hopefully, they will see it my way someday!!
