So What Happened?

I just wanted to thank everyone who responded and offered their advice and help! Thankfully, my son and daughter both got better and have recovered although it took a good week before it was all said and done..and numerous calls to the doc office. we just waited it out and i kept the fluids going and tried to avoid certain things that would make it worse. Unfortunately for me, I got a touch of the bug as well over the weekend but I'm doing ok. Thank you again, I really appreciate you all helping out! It's so great to have some mom support!!

The lethargy part has me most concerned. I was once told in regards to fever that the temperature, isn't as important as behavior, so if they are lethargic, I hope you mentioned that to your doctor when you called. My daughter often gets diarrhea when prescribed antibiotics, for that I was told to go to a Publix pharmacy and ask for LACTINEX. Publix is convenient for us, you may call and ask your local or nearby pharmacy for it, it cost around 10.00; it's chewable and really, really, helps. If they have fevers I would worry about Rotavirus; obviously fluids are very important, but sugary liquids can make it worse, that is when I learned of white grape juice; for some reason it doesn't cause diarrhea like apple juice some times can - it's the only juice we drink now. If I were you I would call the doctor back and talk to some one until you feel confident in the answers or recommendations you get. FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS; it's one of your greatest tools as a mother. I hope this helps, I feel for you - do try the LACTINEX, but if there is fever, you should take them in, children dehydrate easily. Best wishes!

Pedialyte freeze pops will help, gets fluids in her without really having to drink something and it's different.
Watermelon, cantalope, jello. Those things are easy on the stomach, provide lots of fluid.
Stay away from dairy, bananas right now.
Also, try immodium for kids that'll help with the diarrhea.

I have a 3 yr. old and a 9 mo. old, both boys. Haven't had much experience with diarrhea fortunately but they both did had a bout a few months ago. The CVS brand similar to Pedialyte is pretty good. They have an apple flavor that both boys really liked and it is a very pale color, unlike the orange and grape flavors of Pedialyte. Good luck and I hope the children get better soon.

I would take your daughter/son to the ER. It seems to me you are worried and if you feel that your gut instincts tell you that they aren't getting better, an ER visit wouldn't hurt.

If they are lethargic and unable to keep fluids down, they may need to get some fluids intravenously. They could get very dehydrated without adequate fluid intake.

I had the flu a couple years ago and while all the symptoms subsided, the diarrhea persisted so I called my doctor. The nurse advised me to eat 3 yogurts a day for 3 days...worked like a charm!!! Try Yoplait Dora or Diego and Trix...they have fruity flavors that my kids really like and not a ton of sugar while still providing active cultures.
Good Luck!!

Hopefully, they are fine now. I would go to another doctor. You are doing the best, keep them drinking whatever (even soda if it is neccesary). God bless you and your children.
