Do you hate grammar or reading and writing papers? What does "English" mean? That's probably easier but boring. The World Lit is more interesting but more reading and writing papers.

... perhaps take the English Literature.

World Lit... can encompass a whole... other set of constructs. Cultural. Anthropological... depending on how the Professor teaches it and his/her expectations for it.

But ultimately, go by your interests.
Both are real... interesting!

all the best,
Susan

That's tricky. If the World Lit is going to encompass authors from England, than that might be better. It's ridiculous, but a lot of times "English lit" means American writers. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I always preferred the Brits! Is there a syllabus that says some of the authors or books you may read? Maybe you could look up some of them to see if anything sparks your interest. If not, then I would choose English. It is much more difficult to read stuff by Russian or South American writers (I think it's the cultural differences) than it is American writers. Hope this helps and good luck! :)

A fantastic professor can make a "boring" class great but a not so great professor can make even an interesting class painful. Since neither class holds much interest to you try checking out who will be teaching them.
Good luck! I remember dreading my European history 13xx to 18xx class but I got through it.

I am an English lit professor and I teach introductory, English (British) and Irish literatue. See if you can check out the syllabus online or find the textbook listing online. This should give you a sense of the reading. If you hate writing papers, be sure to contact your professor or TA early on in the semester and see if you can get extra support through a writing center.. Hopefully being prepared will make the writing part a bit less stressful for you and that in turn should make it possible for you to relax and enjoy the literature. Try talking to your fellow students. I think that either course can be engaging, useful and enjoyable. I find that the best way to help students thrive in a literature class is to make connections to their own lives and the literature we are reading. See if you can find a class like that. Good luck to you.

I think English Lit would be easier because the language is a little more modern and you already have a frame of referance for it.
Here are some tips.
Go see if there is website where students rate there prof at your school. Look for reccomendations from other students that have taken that specific class. An easy class can be made into a pain by a bad or overzealous teacher. Some schools even have stats where you can see the percentage of As, Bs, and Cs, as well as percent that failed. That will give you an idea of which class to choose based on prof. Also, go to the bookstore and check the required reading list. That is also a good tell tale sign. Once you choose a class, buy Cliffs notes or audio books for the reading assignments.
I loved English lit and took several classes, though it's not for everybody. Go into it with an open mind. you might just suprise yourself and get sucked into the joy of it.

are those your only two choices? I was able to take a science fiction class and a modern lit class. both had much more updated reading requirments.
