Ok moms... Need some help here. I have a 9 m/o little girl. I have talked to her doctors about this problem and he says it's perfectly normal. She's teething badly now and it's really bad a night. She's awake almost all night and really fussy. she can't get comfortable unless she being held all night long or sleeping next to someone and being cuddled. I did it a few times but I don't want to get her atached to the idea of sleeping in our bed. I have tried all the baby gels/swabs/liquid/tylenol/rings/toys and rags that she could put in her mouth and anything that I could freeze for her so she would have something cold to chew on, and nothing seems to give her even temporary relief. I am a full time working mom and have been awake for the last 4 days and getting no sleep. If any mom has anyother ideas that would be greatly appreciated.

When my brother was a baby, his top teeth would bubble and blister and bleed but never cut through his gums. My mom gave him the round beef jerkey that you can buy at liquor stores. He would chew on them because they were different and tasted good, yet they wouldnt fall apart to choke him and tough enough to give him some relief. I have tried this with my daughter and it worked wonders on her, even though she only has her two bottom teeth at almost one lol. But she doesnt like using teethers and things so, give it a try

Have you tried Highlands teething tabs? They work well for some. I have a 14 month old with only 4 teething, i am not looking forward to any of the others. I have a feeling he is going to get them ALL at once.

I sympathize, my 2 year old started teething when she was 4 months old and my 4 month old is following suit!! I found 2 things that work wonders, #1 - teething tablets by a brand I believe is hyland (I should go up and check, if you need the actual name feel free to email me)!! They are a godsent, just pop 2 or 3 in her mouth, I believe you do it ever 3 or 4 hours. Another thing I found that helped was frozen mini bagels, I know it's sounds crazy but get a bag of them and freeze them up, when she wants to gnaw on something hand her one of these. They stay frozen forever and are a healthy treat afterwards. My Dr. actually gave me kudos for this one (however, it was my cousins idea).

Unfortunately my youngest is too young for the bagels right now but yours isn't, i'm telling you, it works great as they stay frozen long past the teething rings or rags do.

Good luck and hang in there, it does get easier!!!!

I'm thinking you may have tried this, sounds like you've tried everything but my daughter (8 months) also is teething horribly and it makes her crazy and wakes her up at night... I just didn't see the teething tablets on your list above and they are the ONLY thing that help my baby girl... you put 2-3 (one at a time) under their tongue, it dissolves and up to 10 minutes later I once again have a peacefully sleeping baby. Sometimes I give it to her at bedtime if she's a little cranky and then she'll sleep all night...

Hope this helps,
J.

I feel for you. My son started teething at 6 months and it completely threw off his sleeping schedule. He went from sleeping 6 to 7 hours to waking up every 2 to 3 hours due to the pain. During the day he loved chewing on his pacifier but at night it wouldn't help. Have you also tried the teething tablets. Those worked wonders for my son. I would crumble one up and put it in his bottle before he would go to sleep. I think it helped to ease the pain as he started sleeping longer after we started that. Good luck and keep trying what you can think of.

Hi M.:

Have you tried the teething tablets? You can get them just about anywhere, and they work wonderfully. And when I know my daughter is in terrible pain from her teeth, I will give her a dose of Motrin or Tylenol before bed. Check with your doctor first on how much to give her. Hopefully this helps.

My son was an awful teether, he wouldn't sleep, eat, drink, let alone stop crying, and the diarreah was horrible. He wouldn't chew on anything either. I bought the Humphrey's teething tablets, and tylenol. The tablest are put into your daughters gum or cheeks and they dissolve and she will swallow them, and then after they dissolve I would give my son some tylenol. The tablets are all natural and also help relive pain and help your daughter to sleep. they were a life saver for me!!!!!! I highly reccommend them, go get them to keep your sanity. Good luck and be patient, it will pass, it's a rough time for mommy and baby, but if you're calm it will help her be calm as well, and hopefully rest!!!

Well, you are not alone. We've all been through it. Nothing much worked for my daughter either outside of extra love and cuddling. I tried the cold rags and chew toys, etc.... The Baby Motrin did help more than the Tylenol (even though my Doc didn't approve - he just suggests Tylenol). Good luck! Wish I had some better advice.

Have you stuck your finger into her mouth to feel about how many teeth are coming through?

My son, at 8 months, had about five teeth come through at once. I can only imagine how painful his mouth must have felt. He, too, didn't like anything I gave him for teething. I just found that committing myself to his comfort was what really helped. I didn't do ANYthing when I was with him, except cuddle and focus on him. I spent countless hours awake at night, in my rocker holding him.

So, that's the bad news. The good news is, it only lasted about two weeks, the teeth broke through and life went on. It seems it's just the first handful of teeth that really bug them, and perhaps the two year molars.

The hardest thing to remember, when you are in the thick of it, is 'this too shall pass'. Your little girl's teeth will come in, she'll start sleeping and some different problem will come up.. lol...

One thing, have you seen those little net things that you can put chunks of fresh fruit into, so they can nub on them, but you don't have to worry about them choking? Get one of those, stick a chunk of frozen watermelon in there, or a couple of cut up frozen grapes, and see if she'll gum on those for a bit.

She'll get some relief AND get some nice fruit into her!

Oh! I JUST remembered, my Aunt In-law used to get green onions, cut off the white end and let her boys gum on the green, long ends of the onions. She said there's something in the onion that helps soothe the pain. She SWEARS by it!

If you have tried everything else I would say use your finger and just rub her gums but most likely until she cuts that tooth she will continue to be in pain. Sorry I could not help more.

I feel your pain. My son is almost 15 months and just got his back teeth and he was the same way except it was during the day. But when his first teeth came in I took another friend and mother of 3's advice: grill or fry up a porkchop w/ some salt and pepper then give your daughter the bone the chew on. The bone will not split apart, babies love the flavor and she will cut those teeth real quick. Obviously keep an eye on her while shes got the bone.

what i had to do with my daughter was not only give teething drops but i had to give her a full dose of tylenol (every four hours) and a full dose of motrin (every 4-5 hours). thats what my babies pedi. suggested.

Hang in there! You know what it is, at least. The end of this is near. I know losing sleep is pure torcher, but she'll feel better as soon as she cuts the tooth or teeth. And so will you. I wouldn't put her in you bed though. That may be tough to reverse.

Have you tried an amber teething necklace? It helped my daughter with teething and even my son with earaches. :)

I will agree that the teething tablets (Hyland's) are like magic, there is also a Hyland's kid's kit that you can order online that has some separate remedies for inflammation (homeopathic Belladonna we found to be best for earache as well as toothache)...

we also used baby Tylenol or baby motrin when our son was really suffering, and gave him a toothbrush to chew on. It ended up that helped him want to brush his teeth all the time, which is not a bad idea!

good luck, you have gotten some great ideas, hope mine helps...
