Hi!

I will be cooking two (2) - 4lb pork roasts for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. I will be cooking them in the same roasting pan or large crock pot. Everything I can find online just tells me to cook it until the meat reaches 150-180 degrees, but not how long that would take! I need to know what time to put them on so they will be done for a 1pm meal.

I'd really prefer to cook it in the slow cooker, but is this even possible with 8lbs of meat??

Can anyone help me out??

THANK YOU!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice! It still ended up not being done on time, but we threw them on the grill for a few minutes and we were all set. Happy Thanksgiving!

I cook almost exclusively with a crock pot, I am a crock pot junkie:) Basically with meats, any amount(if you can fit it into the slow cooker and that the crock pot lid will fit properly), will cook completely on LOW in 8-12 hours or on HIGH in 4-6. I would just put it in before I went to bed and let it simmer on LOW overnight, and switch it to keep warm about an hour before serving time, which would make it 12 hours on the dot if you went to bed at 11pm. I would make sure that there was enough liquid in the bottom(a cup or so is all you need) to keep it from scorching.

You could also do one in the crock pot and one in the oven, just for fun:)

Here's a website with pork cooking times: http://www.recipetips.com/kitchen-tips/t--907/pork-cookin...

(However, although you are technically cooking 8 lbs., you should calculate it based on the individual weight 4 lbs of each roast.)

When I do roasts (beef or pork) I put them in the crock pot and let them do on high for 3 hrs, then turn them to low and let them simmer for 9-10 hrs. At that point in time, the meat literally falls apart and just melts in your mouth. Good luck!

I have cooked pork roasts in the slow cooker. But I think the biggest one I have cooked was about 5 lbs and that was in one of those big oval slow cookers. You should probably plan on doing it in the regular oven unless you have 2 cookers. and pork needs to be cooked slowly for the best results so on a low temp for a long time. if your cooker is big enough you could put it int he oven about 3am and it will be done by the time you need. I always crumple to big wads of foild and make logs to sit the pork roast on in the bottom of the cooker that way the meat doesn't dry out. in a dish I pour about a cup of olive oil , garlic powder, onion powder salt and pepper and parsley mix that up and roll the roast in it. set it on those little foil logs and let it cook a long time. turns out really moist. very good. hope you have a happy thanksgiving and your roast turns out good.

It's 20 minutes for every pound. If you have 2, it might be a little extra.
