I have a teenage son who is suffering from severe depression. I have tried counseling and a psychiatrist but no one seems to really treat teenagers. Is there a residential program anyone has tried?

What can I do next?

Your post really breaks my heart. Is it actual chemical depression? Have you tried any antidepressants? If your son's father is newly in the picture, is he any good at anything? He may not be helpful with the depression per say, but are he and your son bonding? If they did it would be really helpful for your son. Boys, esp. teens, really need fathers. What insurance plan do you have? There definitely are people who treat teenagers.

Lots of questions, and few answers, but teens with problems are who my heart really goes out to, and I'm really concerned about your son. Please let me know how it goes, and keep trying.

M.,

I highly recommend Dr. Lynn Ponton in San Francisco, Ca. She is considered a specialist in teenagers. Have your son go to her- she's THE BEST.

HI. Dr goldwasser in mill valley, ca by san rafael treats kids and adults for multiple disorders. My daughter who is 8 almost 9 saw him and he is wonderful. Have you tried taking him to Sutter Hospial mental health by the hospital. If you think he might do something to hurt himself or others you can have him admitted for a 3 day hold. WE did with our 8 year old and it helped. We got a clear diagnoses and medication to help her. Have you asked his doctor for help. Taking him in and seeing if you can get him on medicine until you can get him into a psychatris. good luck. keep me posted.

Hi M.,

CranioSacral Therapy is very helpful in treating depression. If you would like to learn more about it go to: www.upledger.com. It may only take a few sessions to make a real difference.
