Hello ladies,
I'm trying to find a reputable not so expensive moving company. Has anyone moved lately and used someone they recommend. I'll do most of the packing myself so I really need load/unload service and some assembly/disassembly. Should I use a company that gives you a quote according to your things or should I use a company that charges by the hour. I'm a little scared of the hourly basis since I heard horror stories. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

When we moved last year from Dallas to Plano, we used Firehouse Movers. They did a great job for us. We did all of our own packing, and used Door to Door to load up boxes and most of our attic, but the movers did the big stuff.
They were prompt and courteous and I rode with them from one house to the next and wasn't ever uncomfortable. They didn't break anything either. =)

In 2000, we moved a whopping 3 miles to our new home.
Personally, I'd steer away from the hourly rate.
I got quotes from several good companies. I ended up going with Mayflower. They do national moves but also local. They provided me with a good quote, boxes and packing meterials. I did most of the packing. We actually moved a LOT of the things ourselves.
We are very picky with our furniture and they did a great job respecting our wishes and understanding our fear of something being damaged.
Another thought before you go out and have a bunch of friends to help... The movers are insured, therefore if they get hurt or something their company covers them. Of course, I am sure if they are on your property, they would still try to go for you...that is just how sue crazy some people are these days.
So I would go for the quote and make sure you get a reputable company. We spent a little less than $1000 for our move.
Yes! I highly recommend Bob Boatright with Cowboy Moving.
