It's low. But not abnormally low. I run at 97.4 most of the time, and range from 97.1-97.7

((I'm guessing you're used to celsius))

LOW Grade Fever = 99-102 ((teething, colds, etc.))
MID Grade Fever = 102 - 103
HIGH Grade Fever = 103-105

Kids tend to run hotter than adults with their fevers (new systems that haven't worked out the kinks). Pretty much anything under 104 you can treat at home with tylenol (paracetamol), &/or ibuprofen, and it should bring it down to 102 or lower.

There's a saying most Peds give their new parents, though:

104 and out the door! (meaning go to the ER immediately if their fever gets up to 104)

98.6 is the average temp for all people but as with averages some people are higher and some are lower.

Get a basic first aid book/medical care book for mothers with children right away if you don't know the answer to this question. Your question is rather basic. Read it!

Ask your pediatrician for a recommendation. If you can't find a good one, pm me and I'll tell you the name of mine. I can't recall the name off the top of my head but it tells me what do when my child has a fever, remedies, all first aid info.

But to answer your question, no, 97.2 is normal and not a fever.

Low/average. High is 103 or above.

By the way - your subject should have your question in it. "Hello" may not get you as many responses as you'd like. However in this case, you don't need any more responses since your question got answered. :-)

Best wishes,
M.

I also have a normal low temperature. My average temp through the day is from 97.3 up to 97.8. If I have a temperature of 99 degrees i have what is considered to be a fever, 3 degrees above your normal body temp is fever.

98.6-101.6, at 101 degrees children are not allowed to stay in child care or at school because they are considered to have a fever. So, 3 degrees above his normal temperature is a fever for him.

I know I run a below average temperature because I tried to get pregnant for months and months after I remarried and tried to learn how to tell I was ovulating by rise in body temp. I had no idea how to tell when I was ovulating that way though. Anyway, I have an excellent credible source to prove I have a low body temp.

I think average body temperature is 98.6, so 97.2 is below average. 99 and above is considered fever.
