Healthy Eating - Tampa,FL

I am an elementary school teacher and so my breakfast is at 6:30 AM and I have lunch at 10:20 AM. School is not over until 2:40 PM - after dismissal duty - and by then I am STARVING or at the least, looking for a snack. I need ideas of healthy snacks that will be satisfying - keep me full until dinner at 6 PM AND satisfy a sweet tooth. I have read a bunch of lists of all the 100 calorie ideas but frankly 20 frozen grapes or 3 tablespoons of hummus on baby carrots will just not cut it. I would not say I am obese but could stand to lose about 10 pounds or so - so was hoping for some good healthy ideas.
TIA

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the ideas - there were some I knew of and some new ones I am excited to try! A big part of this will actually be taking the time to eat a snack afterschool when I am "crazily" trying to finish everything to pick up my children and get home for a better dinner! Thanks Again!

I know this sounds lame, but raw carrots are good for you, sweet and very filling. I soak them in cold salt water, and then I don't feel the need for a dip. Great on the go and no mess or fuss. If they get warm, no big deal! I personally love carrots!! Good Luck!

For staying power, I like to pair protein with fiber, and try to stay hydrated:

-mix a few almonds (protein/fiber) and dark chocolate (more antioxidants and richer flavor, so less is more) chips together - I keep mine in the freezer so the chocolate stays firm and fresh until the afternoon
-an orange (fiber) and string cheese (protein)
-one Chocolate Chip Cliff Kid Zone bar - yum! (tastes like a choc chip cookie, but packed with protein and fiber)
-2 homemade cookies (find a low fat oatmeal raisin recipe and add some flaxseed, nuts and a few chocolate chips) with milk
-fiber rich crackers (eg Wasa or Stoned Wheat Thins) and cheese
-yogurt (I like lowfat, rather than nonfat and look for lower sugar content) topped with fruit - whatever is in season, or some frozen berries

Good luck reaching your goal!

PS- if you like bananas, peel a ripe one and put it in your freezer before you go to school. When you get home, put it in a food processor and a dash of milk. Blend until smooth - it has the texture of soft serve ice cream. My kids LOVE this treat. We make sundaes by sprinkling a few chopped almonds or peanuts and chocolate chips over the "ice cream" and they go bananas! ahaha

I love to snack on a cut up pear and some nuts. Almonds and sunflower seeds are my fav. The nuts keep you full, and the pear satisfies my sweet tooth.

I'm a teacher and have played around with this, too. Protein!!! Get snacks with protein. Greek yogurt with some Kashi GoLean is perfect (both are higher in protein, which keeps you fuller longer). I also do an apple with a handful of almonds (not always easy, though, with allergies...I wait until the end of the day for this one). An apple with string cheese is good for me, too. Find some snack with protein in it and you'll be good. 100 calorie packs are empty carbs with no nutritional value or staying power. They don't fuel you.

fruit with Nutella :-); a hearty whole grain cereal or granola with milk; hard boiled eggs; those packages of tuna; natural popcorn always helps with munchies (no butter kind); my favorite 100 calorie pack is the dark chocolate covered almonds! Mmmmm those are great and full of protein, and a kick of sweetness. I think the trick is to never get hungry, so if you are teaching, is it possible to drink a protein shake/drink sometime between your early lunch and end of school day... that would help a lot.

Greek yogurt? Lots of protein and that's what fills you up.

String cheese & fruit?

Maybe you need to eat a dinner for your lunch....then a snack, and a lighter dinner?
