Hello,
I was wondering if any of you had some ideas of where my kids and I could go to volunteer this week since we are on Spring Break. My kids have it sooooo good which I am grateful for but sometimes I wonder if the things I am giving them are really good for them. My daughter is 7 and has a really good heart. I would like to find a place this week where we could go maybe for 1 day and give back to our community so she can realize that every child does not live the way she does. I have been looking online and haven't been able to come up with any ideas. I'm not trying to make her feel guilty for what she has but maybe just an opportunity to give of her time and efforts to someone less fortunate. It will have to be a safe place for the girls and I to go alone as my husband is working and will not be able to attend with us. I hope this makes sense. I took my daughter to the Easter egg hunt at the park today and from there we went to the movies. All along she wanted more, more, more and when we got in the car she said that she wished she could go the beach for Spring Break like so many other kids. It is disturbing to me even though I know she is just being a normal kid. I'm looking for a way to help her realize that many kids are not as fortunate as she. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure where you are but Mission Arlington always needs volunteers.
I don't know if you go to church or not, but ours has an Organization called NICA (which is a program for children) that a few of our members volunteer for and we make donations to their pantry. Things we donate to the pantry are like diapers, formula, baby food, blankets, food for Christmas dinner etc.. If you want I could find out more for you of how to get in touch. You also might check other churches to see if they have things that would be good for them to volunteer for.
There are a ton of shelters in Fort Worth. Most of them are located very close (Lancaster & Cypress). I believe that serving the homeless is something that will impact your daughter. We were just down there handing out water & crackers on Saturday and I took my kids with me. My son is almost 3 and he was helping pass out water bottles and I explained very simply to him that we were helping these people since they don't have a regular home like he does. He was very excited about it and had fun. Hope you find what you're looking for!
Bring them to a nursing home would brighten up the residents who live there. Some of them never have any visitors. You can have them do art work to give out...you can tape them on their walls.
