I was out taking my dog for a walk this morning and as I was waking back to my house, a neighbor who I had never met, yelled across the street to me that she would like it if I didn't allow my dog to pee on their grass since it causes brown spots. My dog had just peed on her tree just a moment before but he's a tiny little thing with a small bladder so there wasn't a lot that came out of it. I was a very taken back by this since this is why you walk your dog, so that they get some exercize and go pee and if it is not my dog pee on your lawn, it's countless other's that will. What are you going to do, stand by your window and try to confront each and every dog walker who dares to pass by your property? For the record, I'm not one of those obnoxious dog owners who allows their dog to poop on everyone's lawn and doesn't have pick it up. My leash is equipped with those nice little disposable bags for quick and easy litter removal.
So what does everyone think? My house this time has desert landscaping but my house prior to this had grass and I wouldn't have dreamed about being so confrontational about an issue like this. I would have just chalked it up to, this is what dogs do; they pee on grass. Am I missing out on some kind of social or pet ownership rule here? Am I being overly senstive?
Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. When this all came down, I wasn't happy that this particular neighbor chose to yell at me from across the street. I have lived across the street from her for over a year now and I did go over an introduce myself and tried to get to know her only to be receive a cold shoulder from her ever since. I was upset that the one and only time that she voluntarily spoke to me had to be in this confrontational manner. We live katty-korner across the street from each other and see each other outside our homes often so she has plenty of opportunity to talk to me about this situation privately. It would have been the nice thing to do but . . . (heavy sigh) oh well, this is just keeping in character with how she has always been. But I did tell her, when this all came down that I didn't know about the brown spots issue and would respect her wishes from now on. It is not my desire to offend neighbors. So, this was a good lesson for me. I've gone from being a good, somewhat uninformed dog owner to a little bit better, little bit more enlightened one instead. I'm a dog owner (have been for 25 years) and I always let my dog out in MY yard to pee/poop before he goes for a walk.
And there are some people out there whose worlds ARE so small that, yes, this is a big deal to her. Poor lady! lol
Dont walk on that side of the street! You really can't control where the dog pees so stay away from that crabby neighbor. I had a neighbor leave me a note saying my cat pooped on her grass at 9am! I wrote her a note and told her "I told that cat not to do that"!

A male neighbor watches people then yells at them to not walk or let the dogs use the bathroom in his yard. He also sets off the sprinkler. He has even stood in the road yelling and waving people away from driving in front of his house(public street). He is scary and mentally unbalanced so we avoid him and hope he will move soon. His behavior is over the top, but most people quit walking near his yard.
Another neighbor lets her HUGE dog poop on people's sidewalks, driveways, and yards. She asked if we minded and I said yes, especially when it is where we have to walk. She then tried to get it to use the other yards most of the time. She is disliked by most neighbors and blamed for most of the poop, though several people have large dogs that contribute.
I still like her, but I wish she would keep her dog leashed. This same neighbor would have a fit if any of the kids were playing in her yard.
Most neighbors pick up their dog's poop without being told and I appreciate it. I keep my dog in my yard or pick up after it if we are walking around.
I work hard to have a nice yard where all the kids can come and play.
Well I have 3 dogs and one is 150 pounds, so he can pee a whole bunch lol - but I think I would not be allowing my dogs - even the mini dachsunds I have to walk, or pee, or poo, on someone elses property - realistically you are allowing your dog to trespass.
So yes, you are being sensitive - I would not like someones dog on my well tended lawn, peeing, and there is a social and pet ownership rule that you don't let your dogs on other peoples property.
Don't "water" my lawn. Your pet's bodily fluids are not welcome on my property. You are definitely missing out on some basic neighborhhod civility and your neighbor was making a fair request.
Yes, some dogs can leave brown spots--either because it is acidic or hormones from being in heat. Some species of grass are more susceptible than others.
While I think your neighbor might have been more than a little rude about it, allowing your dog on her property is tantamount to trespassing and she has every right to request that you refrain from coming on her property or allowing your dog to do so...for whatever reason.

My father-in-law's lawn is dead from the acidic pee that his dog has, our lawn is fine with our dog. But, I still don't appreciate it when people allow their dogs to pee in other people's yards. We put a lot of effort into our yard, and when kids ride their bike over it, or other people's pets pee and poop in it, it is frustrating. Taking a dog for a walk is to give them exercise (unless you live in an apartment and don't have a yard for them to use). Yes, walking does get their bodies moving, and it is inevitable that they will have to do something, sometime, but I usually try to have my dog use the "community" space, or the strip between the sidewalk and road, rather than on someone's nicely manicured lawn.
I don't have dogs...never would have one. And, I must say, I get really pretty irked when people take their dogs out and let them do their business in my yard. I have been sitting on my porch when people walk by and stand while their dogs go to the bathroom.....right in front of me. It's pretty brazen. Believe me, I have told people that I don't appreciate it.
I had one neighbor that let her dalmations out every single morning and they made a beeline for my yard. The yard with NO dogs to bark at them and chase them off. I had no choice but to go out there and clean it up because on a hot day...the smell came right in the front windows. And again....we don't even have dogs. I shouldn't have to deal with that.
People who love their dogs don't think their pee or poop is any big deal, but people who don't have dogs don't appreciate it.
No offense, but you're thinking it's no big deal because yours is a little dog and he just peed on her tree, but maybe you should consider she might have about 20 other neighbors who also think it's no big deal for their dogs to pee in her yard. Yes, maybe she does try to confront everyone who walks by and uses her yard like that. I've run people off. I'm a very neighborly person, but it's not neighborly to use someone else's yard for something they obviously don't like.
I don't think she sounded all that confrontational. She said she would like it if you didn't let your dog pee on her grass. She took it personally you allowed it and you took it personally that she said something.
I would introduce yourself and tell her that you're sorry...you didn't mean anything by it and you won't let your dog on her grass anymore. I'll bet you anything she will tell you that she's got dogs in her yard all the time and she wasn't singling you out.
It can't hurt to extend an olive branch to your neighbor.

It is rude to allow your dog on others people lawns at all. There are public lands for that type of use. Dog pee kills grass and flowers and bushes. Do you normally walk around on other people's properties? Than why would you allow your dog to? She was completely with in her rights, you had no business allowing your dog onto her private property.
I think your neighbor is right. DON'T let your dog go to the bathroom on their property.. lawns cost a lot of money and when one area goes brown and does look unsightly.. plus, your neighbor took the time to improve their place, why let your dog ruin it... not too mention, plants and flowers help to beautify the neighborhood... we have TWO trees in front of our home and many "dog walkers" seem to think it's ok to let their dog urinate and defecate on the side of trees...... it's NOT ok... curb your dogs people.. this includes when they urinate.. we aren't all down for DOG PISS on our property..
Yo! People with dogs who let them pee where they please! I don't remember any of you paying my property taxes or mortgage in the last x number of years! The last time I looked, I owned my lawn, and that right is protected by the constitution. No where is there any law that says I MUST allow your dog to deficate on my lawn!
If this woman doesn't want your dog on her lawn, she has every legal right to tell you and your dog to get lost. It's not a matter of rude, it's a matter of rights!
If you take the responsibility of owning a dog, deal with it. There are certain places they don't belong. If your dog needs to pee, find a place for them to do it, that is legal. Has the world lost it's mind?!!! Man oh man! I'm blown away by all of those people out there who think this neighbor woman speaking her mind about her "own" lawn is out of line, or rude.
To all of the guilty as charged dog-owners out there, "you" are the one who decided to get a dog, not this woman or any of us expected to meekly allow them to ruin our lawns because it might hurt someone's feelings. I'm sure the last time neighbor-lady checked, she didn't anticipate that when she chose to buy her house, invest in it's upkeep and beautifying it, that allowing the neighborhood dogs to piss in her yard was an expected part of the deal!
My neighbors have 2 dogs, so they are dog lovers themselves. They also have a fire hydrant in their front yard which every dog in the neighborhood makes a beeline for when out for a walk. It drives them crazy!!! They are very careful to make sure their dogs pee before leaving their yard and they keep the leash short to keep their dogs off of other people's lawns when going for walks.
I also am a dog owner and although I would never confront a neighbor over it, if I happen to see a dog being walked in my yard it frustrates me even if they don't pee, just because I find it rude to let your dog (or your child, or yourself) go walking through someone's yard.

My brother has a pit bull. Apparently his pee is so acidic that when he pees it kills the grass. Their backyard does have patches of dead grass from where their dog has peed. I don't think it's unreasonable for someone who really takes care of their lawn to ask you to have your dog not pee on their lawn. I personally wouldn't like it either since my boys run around our front and back yard without their shoes on and it kinda pukes me out to think of them running in some other dogs pee.

My Mom's had terrible trouble with this. She has a deep drainage ditch in front of her yard, and people have crossed the moat so their dogs can pee/poo in her yard. She's put up no trespassing signs. She's asked them nicely to stay off her lawn. When that didn't work, she's hosed them down, and on a few occasions, scooped up the poop, put it in a bag and handed it to them at their front door.
Why should someone else s yard be a toilet for your animal? If your dog needs grass to pee on, plant some of your own and let him have at it.
Well, I don't blame her -although I think she's going to have a hard time keeping all dogs off of it if she lives on a busy sidewalk. Dog pee KILLS grass! My neighbors let their dogs out to pee in their front yard, and they have yellow/brown spots all over the yard. It looks awful. Ours pee in our back yard, and only a few spots have appeared -not sure if there's a difference in male and female pee or what, but still -it's not okay to let your dog use the bathroom in someone's yard! Once in awhile it's unavoidable, but she's probably worried about it becoming a regular event -and killing her grass or plantings.

Your neighbor may be just fed up and doesn't know whose dog is releaving itself on her lawn. I'm a dog lover/owner and also pick up after him where ever we go and try to avoid letting him on anyone's lawn except the park where he loves to roll around on the grass.
If this is bothering you, write a note and let your neighbor know that you don't let your pet go on her lawn, but you can understand her frustration. Otherwise, let it go because you do the right thing as a pet owner.
I live upstairs and have seen people letting their dogs take a dump right in our flower bed outside our gate and just walk on without picking up. In that case I have been known to call out, "PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG"! Some do and some keep going! All are sort of surprised because I can see them, but they can't immediately see me.

Part of my dog training is *where* my dog is allowed to walk. He has to stay on the sidewalk or grass on the streetside (public area in our city). He's NOT allowed
-in the street
- on other people's property (yards or driveways)
Even though he's leashed (leash laws in our city also) the leash has *more* than enough give for him to pop onto other people's property. So he's being trained not to. The moment he starts heading onto someone's property, I tell him no and quick tug (pay attention tug) so that he stays off.
One way to consider it is the "drunk college student" test. If you would allow a drunk college student to do it in your yard and be happy about it, then your dog can in other people's. Puking, peeing, pooping, copulating, making loud noises, or even just flopping down for a rest on your lawn/driveway would NOT be cool. So you don't let your pup do it either.
Actually, puppies and drunk college students are almost identical in inclination and character. So it's a good rule of thumb to go by.

I know you've already gotten alot of responses, but here's one more LOL We have had dogs and cats for many years. True, dogs enjoy urinating frequently during their walks (especially male dogs!) but by no means is it necessary, or a comfort issue for them. Usually it's just an instinctual habit that they practice to mark territory. I swear, one of our dogs used to 'load up' on water before we went for a walk, almost like he knew there would lots of fun places to try to pee! lol Bottom line though, healthy dogs are MORE THAN CAPABLE of holding it for a few minutes until you find a suitable place (not on someones property!) Just say 'NO' and give a gentle tug when they start to go, or look like they are going to start, and they will happily trot along with you until the next stop. Trust me, it's not hard at all. Your dog will be just fine and your neighbors will thank you for it, even the ones who don't yell at you but are quietly irritated and/or or offended that you have allowed your dog to urinate on their property.
Just find a telephone pole, or something in line with the sidewalk, and let your pup 'have at it'...just say stop walking and say "OK Fido...OK...go pee...good boy" etc until he gets it. Easy peasy.

It is inconsiderate to let your dog, even though a tiny one, urinate on someone else's property. I have always trained my dogs to only go on the outer boulevards or to wait until we get to the dog park. I even had a large dog once that we taught to defecate in one small portion of our backyard, like a litterbox.
People spend lots of money and time maintaining their yards, so dog owners should be respectful of that effort. Even when you pick up poop off of someone else's lawn it will still leave a tiny poop smear, and that adds up. I would suggest teaching your dog to go in places that are not on others property.

Some people are very particular about their yards. Spend alot of time and money keeping them nice, and they are "protective" over their accomplishment. While I agree it's "just pee", it can burn grass. And to this homeowner she feels she has a right to ask that your dog not pee on her grass. It may seem petty to you, but obviously it's not to her. In our neighborhood there are plenty of people who will say something, and even have signs in their yards depicting a "no dog potty' message in their grass. It doesnt seem she was rude about it, so I would just respect her request. And walk around her yard next time lol.
Sorry but it does leave burn marks on the lawn. I have a dog also and I never let her pee on someones lawn. The house owner is correct, but her delivery could have been nicer.

There is a reason I don't have dogs. I think they're gross and I would never allow them to pee or poop in anyone's yard but my own. Too me it's as bad you you pulling your pants down and peeing in my yard. Disgusting! I have 2 small children who frolic in my yard. Do their shoes need to have dogs pee on them? Should I have to throw away a pair of shoes because they stepped into the poop I didn't see? Again, there are many reasons I have never and will never have a pet.
My neighbor 2 doors down does not walk her 2 dogs, she opens the front door and lets them out to run the neighborhood. When I see them poop in my yard I get gloves on, pick up and put it in a bag, then politely drop it off on her front porch. It's been 5 years that we've been neighbors, and she continues to just open the front door and let them out.
.... this is her grass... not a "public" area.....
Some people, spend a lot of time and money... on maintaining their grass and lawns and sidewalk areas.
Then to see it ruined by a dog, is irritating.
I can see her point.
Because, this is NOT a "public" area... nor a public grassed area... it is private property.
I love pets and have owned pets all my life... but I can understand the neighbor's irritation.
Some neighbor's pets, poop/pee on our sidewalk lawn area too... and that really irks me.

i have a neighbor who lets his dog come to other yards and do the deed. it is awful and inconsiderate. in fact we have all asked him to keep his dog in his yard but he refuses to do so. so i am guessing our next step will be calling animal control.
so you may be overly sensitive but your neighbor was right. wait in your yard until your dog 'goes' then take a walk. i really do not like when people think it's just ok to have this happen and expect others to be ok with it.
Are you walking your dog on a sidewalk where one side is the neighbor's laws and the other is city property? We have that. Maybe you could try that side instead. The other poster's ideas of getting the dog to go before hand is great. It is her yard and should be respected.
Wow! People are CRAZY! I never imagined anyone could get so riled up about pee! Its PEE people! I love the people who say they wouldn't let their kids run around on grass with pee on it. I suppose they have NEVER taken them to a park or any other public grass for that matter. Plus, you are kidding me if you think that cats and other animals aren't peeing on your grass nightly.
Also, what about those of us who live in a condo or apartment? Are they not allowed to have dogs? And for all the people who talk about "public" land, you've obviously not been to CA. There is no grass between the sidewalk and the street. What do they expect people to do, drive their dogs to a park every time they have to take a pee? The funny thing is we have only a few patches of grass in our huge condo complex so there are probably at least 30+ dogs who use those spots and I have only once ever seen a brown spot on that grass. So I think people are being a little over dramatic about the brown spots. And, my kids play on that same grass every day and have never had an issue. Its fine. Its actually great grass and no one is outside yelling at people to not let their dogs pee on it.
Poop, now that's a different story, people need to clean up poop. But pee is not that big of a deal and it sounds like a lot of these people need to take a chill pill!
I'm sure you meant no harm by letting your dog go on her tree, but you have to remember that not everyone is a dog lover and that standing in your house and watching a dog pee on your tree seems a little insulting. I know that dogs have to go, but maybe you can just have him stick to corners and fire hydrants? I personally don't like it when animals go in my yard either, so I understand her point. I don't think what your little guy did was a big deal, but I would steer clear of people's yards for now. I'm sure your intention was not to make your neighbor mad so I'm sure she'll get over it.
I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe your neighbor was just having a bad day and happened to look out and see you and your dog. It obviously him with the problem. What does he do about all the chimpmunks, squirels, birds and who knows what else peeing and pooping on his lawn? ;-)!! Just avoid his yard in the future and smile and wave when you see him. Don't give it a second thought.
I have never heard of this. Our dog pees all over our backyard with no brown spots. and we have a neighbor who's 2 big dogs sometimes pee in our front yard with no brown spots. I would try to avoid the dog peeing in her yard, especially if someone's home. I could see if it was poop, but just pee.....

My opinion: Your neighbor is wound a little tight. I can understand the poop and picking it up but pee? You are walking on a public street/sidewalk. The sidewalk is property of the city.
Sounds like your neighbor needs to lighen up and get real.
I know people who would not only be incensed about the dog, they scream at humans who might set foot on their grass, even accidentally. I find it ridiculous, and figure that if you're THAT sensitive, put up a fence! (The cats will still climb it, though.) I am very much in the minority, though, I'm sure.
Holy Cow--I am reading your responses and am quite shocked. Seriously people, it is pee. I know it can (not always) burn the grass, but it is not like the dog is writing its name. Is everybodys lawn that perfectly maicured? I agree with poop, that is gross. I have a fairly large yard with a sidewalk along it. I did find poop out there a few days ago. Im sure there has been a dog or two that has peed out there. I wouldnt know, because I dont have all the free time in the world to notice who I walking by my house and monitoring it. I think you have a neighbor with nothing better to do with their time. I would just avoid their house. I have a dog that pees quite a bit while we walk. I do walk him in the street so he doesnt have the urge quite as much. I agree with the people who say walk him on the side where it is city property. You sound like a resposible pet owner. It is like asking you to go to a restaurant where there are bathrooms but making you hold it until you get home--ridiculous!

I have 3 dogs, and I try not to let them pee in other people's yards, but there is a grassy boulevard on the outside, between the sidewalk and the street, and I do let my dogs pee there. And occasionally, the dogs stop to "water" a bush that is right on the edge of someone's yard (oops), but I never let my dogs go into other people's yards in general - it's trespassing. I'm not sure how to keep them off the very edge, though, when they have to go (I always clean up poop, too). I think your neighbor should have been a bit more neighborly, but I don't think you should take it personally. She is probably just irritated that her lawn is browning from all the neighborhood dogs, and decided to take it out on you. Still, if you have the option, I would keep your dog off of other people's lawns. It's their property, to be soiled or not as they choose. Good luck.
I think it was very rude of your neighbor, however there is nothing you can do about it but try to have your dog pee elsewhere. I don't see what the big deal is, you have all sorts of excrement on your yard whether you like it or not. Birds, squirrels, cats, rodents, etc. don't think about property lines they go wherever they like. If you let your kids run barefoot you know they are walking on feces and urine. Its a fact of life.

If your dog is peeing on the *easement* (the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street) that is perfectly legal. If, however, your dog is peeing directly on her front lawn, including a tree that is on her actual property - that is not legal. I only allow my dog to pee/poop in my own yard, designated areas, and on easements. Period. Anything else is totally out of line.
You need to keep your dog and any of its body fluids on your own property. My neighbor's dog runs free on everyone's property but she denies it 'cause she doesn't see it. Of course, she doesn't see it! She ain't home when doggie runs amok-only her teenage kids are home, so doggie plays while moms away! My hands are tied, one of the neighbor kids is friends with mine. Sigh.
Train your dog to pee and poop in your own yard.
Well I do have to agree with the neighbor. She owns the property, her tree, her grass and how she would like it treated is specified when she let you know her feelings. My dog is a chocolate lab and when we go for walks he doesn't pee or poo anywhere. I think in the almost 4 years we have owned him he has pooped twice on a walk. I do not allow him to pee on other peoples lawns and he seems to save it for our backyard only. Even when we are out in the front yard he sniffs around other peoples yards and doesn't go pee anywhere else, but his backyard. I do not allow him to walk on other peoples grass while we are out and I believe that helps. My german shepherd was exactly the same way. She never pee'd or poo'd while we were on walks and her and I would walk close to 5 miles.
Draw your dogs attention away the moment they seem to want to go pee and take them to your grass or backyard when you get home.
I would suggest that since this woman has asked you to not allow your dog to pee on her lawn, that you move to the street when you pass her property.
It is interesting that pet owners seem to feel that since they choose to own an animal that their neighbors should now welcome having those animals urinate and defecate in their yards.
Your dog's urine will cause brown spots on your neighbor's yard even if it's a small amount. The acid in urine burns the grass unless their sprinkler's go on right after your dog pees. I understand the need to take your dog out for exercise, etc. but I would try to get your dog to community area not your neighbor's yard. Your neighbor didn't put grass on their yard for your dog. They put in in their yard for aesthetic purposes.
Wow, a few harsh responses :) I walk my dog often and although I respect where folks are coming from in that they work hard to keep their lawns green and beautiful. I also feel that it happens and I would rather have a dog pee in my yard than poop. I agree that letting your dog out gets their bodies moving and although I try to keep my dogs from peeing in others yards sometimes it is unavoidable. To keep the confrontation to a minimum I would just try to avoid her yard to not upset her but don't worry about if your dog pees. To me it seems like a natural instinct. Enjoy your walks!!!
I despise when people who have pets think the whole world is a giant toilet for them. I am not an animal lover and I don't want your pet "marking" his territory on MY house, pee or poop. Train your dog to go in your yard and then you clean it up....that is the commitment you make when you get a pet. Walks should be for exercise. She might have been nicer to walk over to you, but you know what--she was probably just sick of having your dog do this over and over and frustrated as to why you couldn't figure this out on your own. She shouldn't have to guard her lawn all day---people can just easily be responsible for their pets and it would be an easy fix. How would you like it if I let my kid come pee on your lawn or regularly threw my garbage on your property?
I do not want anyone's pet going to the bathroom in my yard. I have kids who play in that same grass and don't want them playing in dog urine. I agree with your neighbor, however, she could have said it quietly to your face instead of yelling at you. Pets should go to the bathroom in their own yard.
I can't wait to read through your responses as I was just going to ask a similar question but from the opposite perspective. My husband gets very upset about dogs peeing on our grass and is working on little sign to put up. I am conflicted about the sign as I don't like conflict and don't want to come across as snooty to the neighbors. However, here is his side of the story. He takes a huge amount of pride in our front yard. We used to have desert landscaping and ripped it all out to put in grass so we could feel like we have a little bit of life/green in our yard. He works a 40+ hour week and his chore is to take care of the front and back yard. He does this on the weekend when he would much rather be relaxing and watching football. He monitors the watering cycle, mows weekly, fertilizes weekly or bi-weekly, puts ironite on it, and lately has been doing a fish spray treatment. He spends a decent amount of money to water and get these products so our yard has a green, lush curb appeal. It is very true that the dogs pee causes brown/dead spots. When you put that much time into making it look good it is hard to watch somebody just let there dog go on it in passing. That would be like me letting a child stomp on goldfish crackers purposely on carpet that I just had professionally cleaned and vacuumed 4 times that week. So... my husbands argument would be if you recognize that somebody is working really hard to maintain a nice lawn in a desert environment why can't you have you dog pee somewhere else (like at a parkway, or on someones grass who clearly doesn't maintain it in the desert and wouldn't notice). Seems like a silly thing to have confrontation about, but I know my husband has said the same thing to dog walkers that stopped to let them pee on his lawn.
I know some people who don't like people even walking on their grass. Some people are just anal about their grass. Its there choice and now that you know just don't allow your dog to pee on her lawn anymore.

I am a dog owner and I would never dream of allowing my dog to urinate or poop in someone else's yard, and am offended when other dog owners allow their dog to do their business in my yard. We pay a lot of money to keep our property landscaped beautifully and it does ruin the yard, especially when your dog will go in the same spot each time. I have had to ask people politely not to let their dogs go in our yard. I would let my dog go in my yard before someone else's. It is being considerate of others.
We have that strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street. Once in a blue moon i see people's dogs peeing there. This is where we put our trashcans on trash day... so it doesnt bother me. It would bother me if it was on my side of the sidewalk. So far, the neighbors have been very kind and i do not see it. I am pretty sure they are taking thier dogs in their backyard before they walk them.
Urine leaves brown spots on grass. We don't even let our own dog pee on the grass for this reason--we have an area in the far corner of the yard where our dog does all his business, before we go for a walk. He sniffs lamp posts and mailboxes, but I don't let him pee on anyone's lawn!
Hello, I think the lady has too much time on her hands. I would avoid her yard, even if means going into the street as you pass her place. I walk my little chihuahua every morning and every evening and I have never had anyone complain. I do try to keep her out of people's yards, but we have a common area with grass. I have to admit that I do let her go to the bathroom there. However, like you, if she poops, I clean it up. I am shocked by the amount of poop laying around our mobile home park where lazy peopl just walk away and don't clean it up. It is also a germ and disease bed.

sounds like you have a nutty neighbor but i bet she's more mad about dog's pooping and maybe your dog just peed but she wanted to tell you basically to curb your dog..someone's dog is probably leaving poop and they're not picking it up..i always find dog poo out on the grass by the sidewalk..left there for me to pick up..which bugs me..i stood outside once when i was doing yard work and watched this lady who walks her dogs and doesn't carry anything to pick up the poop with..she looked weirded out walking past me b/c her dogs were trying to stop to do their business..but i waited there so she would have to move on..
so maybe your neighbor is just upset about poop and suspects your dog??
people are weird in general about pets..most either love or hate them..yes there are those in between..i have a little chihuahua and have gotten so much crazy sh*t about him..people fearing him..and he's totally mellow and loves people..so don't let it get to you..its kind of like kids..you see some people smile at them even when acting up..and then you see people that scowl ..just ignore it and try to pick up your dog when walking past her house.

sounds like a weird neighbor. Anyway, my neighbor thought my kids left egg shells on her lawn. Really tiny ones like a baby bird egg. I'm like, are you kidding?

i take my dog for a walk...and try to have him go in leave piles, or on trees that aren't on front lawns...but near to the street.
Hi there...I'm not a dog person, but probably wouldn't think too much of a little doggie piddle. However, there is something inherently insulting when people use my property like it is public space (e.g. It's not a huge deal, but I hate it when people throw their baggie of dog poop into my trash can on trash day before I have pulled the trash can in from the street.)
That said, your neighbor did handle it poorly. But, she lives near you and I think you would find your walks more relaxing if you didn't have an uneasy relationship with her. Perhaps try the honey instead of vinegar approach again and take some cookies over and apologize for your dogs pee and explain to her that you weren't aware that it was concerning and you meant no offense. You probably won't change her communication style, so I wouldn't bother confronting her on yelling at you across the street. Just make nice and know that you've done the right thing and don't let her poor behavior bother you. Yeah, it's not cool, but not everyone is and we just have to go on demonstrating kind, considerate behavior despite it.

she can always say it in a good way, not yell at you like that. She has the right to tell you not to let your dog spray her yard but from everything you've said ,she sounds like a pathetic unhappy person and not the 'neighborly type'..there's always one in the neighborhood.
It's big of you to be nice to her despite it but I would personally avoid people like that.

I am personally not a dog lover at all. I have two cats and years ago we had a cat attacked by several dogs late at night and it was killed. However, I would never have thought that it could be an issue at all if someone's dog peed in my yard. Poop, yes, I would not be happy about at all, but pee?!? A dog on a leash and everything, especially a little one, would bother me not a bit.
We have some neighbors who let one of their pit bulls roam the neighborhood and I have seriously considered calling animal control on them, though. Big dogs and I do NOT mesh...especially a breed known for attacking and with two small kids around!
I think people should take a chill pill and let animals pee when they want and where they want... It is not their fault that people are multiplying so fast and there is not enough space for everyone on the earth...to pee or defecate...
I think you respect her wishes, and let your dog pee in people's yards who don't care.
You gotta be kidding me. I have a Siberian Husky that loves to walk. We do it for EXERSISE. There are no sidewalks in our subdivision, but I make sure she does her business before she leaves the house. We don't even walk on peoples' grass. There are a few empty lots, so that's where we stop.
I have a friend that has a dog that doesn't have a clue, and that's how I came upon this site. She let's her dog piss on everybody's everything. It's so embarrasing that I will not walk with her anymore. Car wheels, garbage cans, mail boxes, ect. In fact, it's gotten to the point where I don't invite her over anymore. Some people just don't get it.
Just look at it this way, if you don't want a dog (or stranger??) coming on your property and urinating.. DON'T DO IT!!
