My husband and I are desperate to have a night out, if only once a month. And could also use occasional daytime care for when we have appts etc.
Has anyone used an agency or have anyone they can recommend to us? We have a 16 month old boy who is incredibly active, so we need someone with high energy.
Also what is the going rate is for paying a sitter? It's been awhile since I did it.

I have not used an agency, however I have had great luck with the chilcare section of craigslist. I moved here a few months ago, knew no one and was in need of a part-time sitter. There are plenty of educated, nice people on craigslist who look for part-time babysitting jobs and have cpr certifications/background checks etc. I have interviewed several sitters and we now have one on a regular basis.
I BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE THE SAME LADY THAT I JUST RESPONDED TO, ONLY A DIFFERENT MESSAGE. IF NOT MY # IS ###-###-####. I HAVEN'T USED ONE EITHER, I KNOW DAYCARES CHARGE AROUND $100/WEEK AND DON'T GIVE THEM THE TREATMENT AND ATTENTION THEY DESERVE.

I pay $11 an hour for my current sitter but we are wanting a new one very soon.
this isnt an agency but this a great idea I thought. there is a movie theatre in new tampa that actually has a daycare in it it is very clean and the kids love it they have certified teachers and it is wonderful it is $9 dollars per child and they give you a pager incase anything happens and they watch your child while you go see a movie...I think this is the best idea ever! I know that my boyfriend and I never got to go to the movies due to not being able to take my child,and we dont know anyone here so findong a baby sotter it out of the question, but now we take her and they watch her, and it is way cheaper than hiring a baby sitter!! just an idea for everyone to check out!
also for apts some daycares do part time wich is less than 20 hours a week you might want to check that out they wont charge the full rate which is anywhere from 100 to 200 a week so thats an idea for that
