I beleive you can make it. Get on the internet and read. Mayo Clinic and other Cancer sites. If you can see the top doctor do it. The more opinions the better. His visit maybe 300 to 500 pay it out of pocket. I have no insurance it was worth the $25,000 I am paying off. I am alive and will continue to live. You will make it only if you fight by starting to believe you will survive. Visualize yourself well. I am praying for you.

My girlfriend had it several years ago, and it was treated with minor surgery. My mother however just was treated for it this past winter. She was stage IIB with a 10cm tumor, and at the age of 77, they still didn't recommend a hysterectomy. I don't know who your ongologist is or anything, but I can give you the names of a few GREAT doctors that she had. If Dr. Herbert Beck is in your network, see him as soon as possible. He is a Gynecologist Oncologist. So not only does he know oncology, he knows the female cancers very well. The oncology group with Dr. Cochoran is fabulous. Don't know if you have access to Rush hospital in Chicago, but there is a Dr. Thomas Zuzag who specializes in cervical cancer.
The treatment my mom went thru was 5 weeks of everyday radiation, 5 wednesdays of chemo, and then a brachatherapy implant that she had down at Rush. And I am happy to say that worked. Check into ALL of your options.

If you are interested and want to send me your address, I have some CD's I would be happy to send to you and also a Healthy Women's booklet which has several stories of women with cervical cancer. The stories are very encouraging and heartwarming. The women took a nutritional approach along with a traditional approach and had excellent outcomes. What you can do right now is to eliminate sugar from your diet which is not an easy thing to do but very important. Put only good food into your body and choose alkaline foods. I have a whole list of foods which will not fit here, but I could e-mail to you if you contact me. Lots of fruits and vegetables are important. Choose organic if possible. Also, I know it is probably difficult to get exercise in, but that is important also. I have seen so many people recover from cancer, and those that did addressed all areas of their life along with what was recommended medically. Some got positive changes fairly quickly especially if they were young. Be hopeful and positive in your attitude. Having had a serious medical issue in the past, I know panic is really what we all gravitate to. Say no to panic and worry! View yourself as strong and vibrant!

I'm so sorry you're going through this. My mom had cervical cancer, Stage 1 and a complete hysterectomy took care of it. She didn't need chemo or radiation after that. She was 41 or 42 at that time and definitely done having children. I guess that would be a big consideration too - are you done having children? What types of treatment options are available if you are not?

I know you're scared, that's perfectly normal. You'll feel better once you schedule an appointment with the dr that's in your network. Make sure you write down any and all questions that you can think of. Have someone go to this next appointment with you to take notes.

Being that you have to see another doctor in your network, that is a second opinion and I would go for it. I have had displasia before and to this day feel the test results may have been inaccurate. I had to have cryosurgery. It is scary, where that is not a hysterectomy, for me it was well what if they were wrong and that doesn't do it. I wasn't smart enough at the time to have further opinions. I would say, talk to the doctor in your network, get the facts and any other testing to be sure. From there you can make the decisions about what to do. I have learned since (I had open heart surgery in 2001), the more research you can do and the more knowledgeable you can become - that is the nest medicine. Be active in what is going on - ask questions and I can say with assurance, that is what brought me peace. I will be praying for you and the family. If this was a normal visit for you (yearly), I would say you have very good odds for you. Don't panic, get the knowledge and be active in the questions and the care! You know your body! Stay in control!

I've never dealt with anything like this, or known anyone who has. But I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about you. Please try to stay positive as I've always heard that's the best thing you can do for yourself to fight this.

Well A. we all get scared in life, but keeping your mind positive is the best cure for life...my 20 year old went through procedures at 18 and is now in submission...it's not terminal which is the best news ever and she was at stage 3 the only thing they kept telling us that she might end up steril and at this point in life we would think of other methods of having babies need be...but I just wanted my daughter to be fine and after 5 procedures of byopsies as well as scraping the uterus and burning thin layers around the effected areas..it's in hiding for now and meaning that they said it can come back but she has to keep up with her yearly paps...ad long as they don't say terminal be blessed that you have three lovely children..and May God Bless you and keep you strong.

First, let me tell you to remain HOPEFUL! I was diagnosed with cervical cancer on July 9, 2003; I was at stage 2B when I went to see a specialist--a GYN-ONC--he deals with womens' cancer issues all the time. Second, please find a GYN-ONC to examine you; a regular OB-GYN may not have enough training in this area. Third, if you are not certain about the treatment program your doctor advises for you, by all means, get a second opinion. I was not a candidate for surgery so I had to go through chemo and radiation for 6 1/2 weeks, but I had wonderful doctors and support staff who helped me through this difficult time. Also, check out a website that has helped me a lot: nccc-online.com; they have an email buddy program. Just sign up and they get an email or phone buddy for you to communicate with--every woman has experienced cervical cancer. The name of the website is National Cervical Cancer Coalition. A. - I'm so sorry for your diagnosis. I don't have experience with it, but wanted to send you hugs and prayers. I know MD Anderson is one of the premier cancer centers in the US. They have a site on cervical cancer http://www.mdanderson.org/diseases/Cervical/ Maybe there's some good info there to help you.

I second http://www.imermanangels.org/ as well. They set you up with someone who's already been in a similar situation as yours - diagnosis, stage, age etc.

Also, http://www.cancerwellness.org/ has good support systems.

Hi, yes I had a full hysterectomy about 2years ago. Have not had any problems and feels great. I was really sick before and had to have (2) blood transfusions before I had the operation. I lost my stepmom to cancer. It started out as breast cancer, then about 10 years later it turned into cervical, then a year later it turned into brain cancer. I know how scary this is. I would urgue you to take a look at www.healthquarters.org and contact David Frahm with this question. He lost his wife to cancer and has devoted his life to helping others. He is amazing and has helped so many people (as you can read in his monthly newsletters)

Also, I would recommend going to the Chicago Natural Health Expo. They have tons of speakers and booths that are devoted to cancer.(Kurt Donsbach is amazing) This is on June 27, 28, 29. Check out www.HealthFreedomExpo.com.

You are able to beat this. Know everything possible about cancer and you will make the right decisions,no matter what.

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I will send many prayers and good thoughts your way. My friend had cervical cancer and she is now 2 years cancer free! She also had a hysterectomy and some chemotherapy but did very well. Please get a second opinion before you do anything and educate yourself about your choices. Keep a positive thought! It's very important.

I can only imagine how scared you are. I can offer you a prayer for a QUICK recovery. I wish you all the best. My good friend's sister was diagnosed last year with cancer and also has three young kids. She right away got on the caringbridge website. It can offer a LOT of support in a time like this. I am not sure exactly how it works, but I don't know her sister and I have written her several times to offer support and it may just help lift your spirits when you are going through really rough times.
