I would try chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture. Google PUPP alternative treatment acupuncture and see what you find.
Good luck.
I recently found out that I have PUPP and will have this until I deliver my baby, and possibly for 2 months after birth. I am told that I unfortunately got it pretty early on. I have tried Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap and some medication from my doctor, but I am still itching badly. Does anyone have any suggestions??? According to my doctor, I should expect it to get worse and there's not much we can do. I can't imagine dealing with this for 3 more months!!

I feel for you as I was so itchy during my pregnancy. From reading online it "said" that 70% of woman that have PUPPP have male children. Thought that was interesting. Anyway... I did not have this with my pregnancy however I have some pretty stubborn dermititus that I have been battling for years. In the last month I have started using Kukui oil which has really helped (www.oilsofaloha.com). Also my dermotologist told me, NEVER take hot showers. Always cool or cold if you can handle it. With any skin rash (I have suffered thru so many in my life), take a wash cloth with cold water on it and lay it across the area that is irritated. It will help relieve the itch & swelling. I wish you all the best and sending you happy no-itchy thoughts!!!
This is kind of random but I used emu oil to mitigate the itching. Good luck!
Hi J., While I have never experienced PUPP, I thought you might want to know about a lotion that could possibly help you. I work with a company that makes safer, non-toxic products for the home and family, and they are delivered right to your house. Their prices rival those of the stores and, in many cases, are less expensive than the stores. Thousands of people decide to shop at the company just because of this lotion, as it alleviates severely dry skin conditions associated with eczema, diabetes, etc. I am hopeful it would make a difference for you as well. Please check out www.livetotalwellness.com/adorzab if you would like additional information. My company prevents me from putting their name, etc. here, as they are publicized strictly through word of mouth. I hope to be able to help you!

I had PUPPS starting at 27 weeks w/ my twin boys and it did get worse. I was already in the hospital due to preterm labor. We tried everything. Caladryl, oils, hydrocortisone, Aveeno and Aloe gel (make sure there is no alcohol or else it will burn). They just provided temporary relief. I alternated through out the day and night. The most soothing was a cooling pad they had at the hospital. I also wore my husband's old cotton t-shirts because my clothes and the hospital gown made it itch more. I only had to endure it for 2 more weeks because I had my twins at 29 weeks due to a complication called TTTS (they were in the hospital over 3 months). Good Luck w/ the rest of your pregnancy!
J.,
I sufferred from PUPP from about 26 weeks and the itching didn't go away even 4 months after the pregnancy. At that time, the dermotologist determined that it had become hives. I'm still on Allegra now to keep from getting itchy and my little one is almost 2 years old. However, during pregnancy, the best cream I found was by Rainier Soap Works. The link to their web site is below:
http://www.rainiersoapworks.com/puppp_relief.htm
They also make a PUPP soap - which is very mild.
The PUPP itching would wake me up during my sleep. It was awful, but when it's all over, it'll all be worth it. It usually goes away right after or soon after you deliver your bundle of joy.
Best Wishes.
I definitely know what your going through. I got it about my 3rd month. It just continued to itch and get worse over time. I finally saw a derm dr after a few weeks of not being able to sleep. I was breaking the skin from all the scratching. He suggested a cream by prescription that I could only use for a week that did not help except for the duration I used it. Anything and everything irritated it. I like to live organically, especially during my pregnancy but at this point I was ready for anything so used Aveeno bodywash applied with my hands. No loofah/washcloth because that irritated it too. Then I used hydrocortizone during the day and Aveeno itch cream at night. My OB, who likes to suggest organically/natural first said most women need to take benadryl also for relief. He ok'd it but I didn't use it because it makes me tired. I hope I have been some help. Good luck!
I also got the PUPP in my 4th month and it was dreadful. I tried various cremes, including Aveeno, Grandpa's pine tar soap and peppermint oil. The peppermint oil provided some relief temporarily, more relief than anything else topical - just wear old clothes as the oil will stain. And you'll smell like a candy cane. My doctor prescribed me a topical steroid creme, which I didn't fill.
The one thing that coincided with my PUPP rash disappearing completely was drinking Dandelion Root tea. I drank about 5 cups a day and within a week the itching subsided and the bumps started to go away. By my 7th month it was all gone, even the dark splotches. Try it out, it's safe to drink during pregnancy.
Good luck!
Is your doctor sure you have PUPPs? Do you have a rash? There is another itchy condition that can affect you during pregnancy called ICP. The itchiness is caused under the skin, so it's pretty impossible to stop. There is a simple blood test that can screen for ICP. ICP can cause bad ramifications for the fetus, so it may be good to have your doctor do the blood test, just to be on the safe side. There is medication that can be very helpful for ICP, and the sooner you get on it, the better!
J., I am so sorry you have PUPP! I had it early on with my first pregnancy, and it drove me crazy. It did get better in about my 8th month, so I hope you'll get some relief before your baby comes. As unpleasant as it sounds, the thing that helped me most was cool showers/baths. My skin was much less aggravated because of the temperature, and because I was only in the water for a few minutes. I didn't use soap on any areas where it wasn't absolutely necessary, and I used Aveeno lotion after the shower/bath. I also wore big mumu-type dresses with nothing else so that I didn't have any irritation from underwear/clothes. Not very glamorous, but it did help. I hope you get some relief soon!
I am sorry that you are suffering! Great that you have a resource like this to ask your community.
Definitely apply cooling gels and ointments that can provide relief from itching. Aloe vera gel will be helpful. Oatmeal baths and sea salt baths can also provide relief from itching. You can make a mint and dandelion tea and apply as a topical wash. (Boil one cup each of fresh mint and dandelion greens in 10 cups of water for 20- 25 minutes. Strain, and use the liquid as a wash.)
I recommend avoiding foods that can potentially create increased irritation, including processed foods, artificial flavorings and colorings, additives, preservatives, pesticides and herbicides, and refined sugar and flour. Use mild and natural products on your skin and to wash your clothing. Try to keep potential irritants to a minimum.
You mentioned that the medication from your doctor has not alleviated the itching. And you really don't have the ability to sit still and apply lotions and cremes and sit in the bath to alleviate the itching for the whole day, let alone the next three months! Please look toward Traditional Chinese Medicine (including acupuncture, herbal therapy and diet therapy, medical massage and acupressure) to help you alleviate and resolve PUPP. Chinese Medicine will address your acute symptoms of itching and pain while also looking to the roots of what is causing your body to react in this way.
You don't have to suffer for three more months!

Not fun. I had pupp too. The only good thing I can tell you is it usually only happens with your first child. I didn't get it with my second. Oh weird, sounds like you are getting it with your second! Sorry!
My doctor gave me zyrtec(allergy medicine- it's over the counter now -check with your doc of course especially since he has prescribed something) and that helped me. I think he gave me something else first and it didn't work so then we tried the zyrtec and it was a huge relief. Maybe your doc can recommend you to a dermatologist who will have more ideas about what to do for it? That helped my sis-in-law. She got it really badly too but thankfully close to the end of her pregnancy. I've heard oatmeal baths help too.
good luck and congrats on your baby girl.
I haven't experienced it before but I do know that you want to avoid products that have sodium laurely sulfates and also petroleum in them as these are irritants and could make it worse.
Sensaria Natural Bodycare has a Jojoba Oil, yummy body butters, and body washes that would be very beneficial for you and for your baby when they are born. There are no dyes or harsh chemicals either and we use essential oils and plant extracts for the scent so it is not a synthetic perfume like so many others out there.
Check out the above products and let me know as I'll offer you a discount:o) Pretty miserable I can imagine.

I am so sorry to hear you have PUPP. I had it with my first pregnancy (my daughter is now two) and it started around my 35th week. It was horrible and the only relief I found was taking showers a couple times a day. I would shower and then apply anti-itch cream. I tried many other remedies but in the end showers, lotion and cold washcloths gave me the most relief. I would not wish the rash on anyone and I know exactly what you are going through. The good news is that my rash went away immediately after I delivered and I have had no further issues.
Take Care,
W.
