Hair Salon Tip Question

I recently went to a new salon and got my hair cut and highlighted. The stylist didn't put any blonde highlights when that is what we discussed. Plus, she was only doing a partial highlight and said she had the expertise to match. They turned out more of an orange (honey) color. Anyway, I tipped generously. But I came back in within 7 days to get it fixed. Do I have to tip again?

What can I do next?

Not if it's the same stylist - it's her mistake. I'm not sure you should have been so generous in the first place if she didn't do the work you discussed. But maybe you couldn't tell until you got out and into the natural light?

If it's someone different fixing the mistake, then the service should be free but I would tip her - it's her time, and not her fault. This is where the savings from the first tip might have been useful.

I once had to get a few foils put in my hair which turned out a tad too dark. My stylist said they were on the house, and wouldn't hear of a tip.

Are you paying to have it fixed or are they covering the cost? If you're really happy with the results in the end and you feel you want to tip her, it's up to you. I just wouldn't go back to her. But I think it's fine if you didn't. You are being inconvenienced after all and she didn't do what you agreed to. You already tipped the first time, as you say generously.

i dunno. no, you're really under no obligation to do so, especially since you already tipped generously for a job that wasn't done correctly. no bad karma for not re-tipping.
i do tend to give hair and nail people the benefit of the doubt one time, though. i haven't had it with hair, but i've had nails go south before i finished driving home. i come back pretty tight-lipped, but do tip again just to keep things cheerful. i want to the client they all try to get.
if it's a repeat problem i'll simply not go back.
but i think you're still okay NOT to tip.

No, not when she is fixing her previous mistake.

No. I think that you didn't get what you paid for and they should do the work again at no cost to you. That includes no tip.

I went back once to get my hair re cut. It was too long and it was my fault so she re cut it and I tipped her again. Her mistake, no, I wouldn't. But that's easier said than done. So maybe $10?

No, the salon is fixing their work. No need for a tip. However, if a different person fixes it, I would probably leave a small tip if I liked the results.
