Hi M.,
I also wear my hair in a ponytail alot of the time and lose hair. Usually I put my hair up when it is wet which is the worse thing you can do. I also have a low thyroid which I take medication for. Symptoms of a low thyroid are hair loss, depression, weight gain, tiredness, & dry skin. I think you probably should at least get a thyroid level to be sure that your hair loss is just from the pony tail. Untreated low thyroid can cause alot of health issues. So better safe than sorry. I hope this helps. Take care.
Hi M.:
My hair used to fall a heck of a lot too, and I've tried out numerous hair-loss-help products some with no results, and some with mixed success.
Have tried so many products, I've sort of become a self-help Guru at this now! Do try out this product, they have a free trial running now, so you will only pay S&H if you find it's not working for you.

Goodluck, and I hope this helps!
I have the same problem. I always find hair in the shower, in my brush, on my shirt, everywhere. I also wear my hair in a pony tail all the time. I have never had my thyroid checked so I think that I might get that done. It never happened until I had my three beautiful kids.
M.,
I've had the same problem since my son was born 2 years ago, too. Coincidentally, I've been wearing it up for exactly that same amount of time. It freaked me out for a while, until I noticed that I don't seem to be going bald, even after years of it happening.
I think what happens is this: people shed hair naturally, and when your hair is loose, it just detaches and falls away. When it's caught up in a ponytail, though, the hair can't fall away, so when you take it down to wash or brush it, all those strands that would have fallen away throughout the day are still stuck there, and come out when you loosen your hair. It's my theory, anyway.

as a student in beauty school, I can say that its NORMAL for 40 - 100 strands of hair to fall out DAILY. Its just that those strands of hair that are falling out have reached the ends of their lives and they are falling out to make room for the new hair that will be growing in. If youre really worried, I would speak to your doctor...an about wearing it up in a pony tail?? Pulling your hair back, sleeping with it up or anything like that will cause breakage which can make it look like its falling out but its not, its just breaking. Hormones and your body change every 7 years and the growth and changes of your hair happens every 3 to 4 months.
I agree have your thyroid levels checked......If it comes back normal then stop wearing pony tails for a while....K.
I would call your regular doctor and ask to have your Thyroid levels checked. Loosing a lot of hair is one of the symptoms. Me and my sister both have thyroid issues and it all started after we had kids.
Another symptom is being sensitive to heat changes, are you always cold or always hot sort of thing.
i had the same problem but with a bald spot too.once i stopped taking the pill everything was fine.the dr. said the prescription was to high
I am new mother and my son is 4 months old and for the past month my hair has been falling out. It is frustating me so much that I went to see my doctor about it. She did mention the possibilty low thyroid levels. She also mentioned that I might not be getting enough iron in my diet and I could take an iron supplement. When I was pregnant I had low iron levels, but once I had my son I stopped taking them. I am still waiting for the results. Hope this helps.
Get the thyroid checked!!! I have thyroid issues and i always can tell when it's not right by a couple things. One being my hair is falling out more then normal. a few strands here or there no problem, but several at a time all the time, not good. I see a great endocronlogist in branford if you are near there. I recommend seeing an endo for thyroid issues, not your regular dtr. But they can run the test for it. Also when they call to tell you if your thyroid is ok or not ask them what your TSH # is. Because it can be in "their" normal range, but still be low enough that a little thyroid will help.
If you need more advice you can contact me.
hope this info helps

I lost a lot of hair after my daughter was born. My doctor told me that my hair would be very nice and thick during my pregnancy, then thin out (go back to normal) afterwards. She said the pill can screw with your hormones the same way, and cause you to gain or lose hair.
I have been having the same problem. My hair was coming out in clumps around 6 months after my son was born. While pregnant I was also low on iron. Lately, I am under an extreme amount of stress, and on Lupron Therapy Treatment, since I have Endometriosis. The Lupron puts you through a chemically induced state of temporary menopause. Not sure if this a long with the stress, contributing to my hair becoming much thinner. I have always had fine hair....but a lot of it, but now it just seems more fine than ever. Chasing around a 17 month old, also means my hair is also in a ponytail. Maybe I should get checked for Thyroid/Low iron. Can anyone reccomend a good doctor in the South Plymouth area?
Well it has happened to me to. My hair has been falling out for about 5 years eversince my daughter was born. I got scared by how much hair was falling out so i went to a dermatologist. They said it is normal. It happens from having children. Usually it stops after about a year but sometimes it continues . They told me to take biotin vitamin and use rogain for men and it would trigger a helthy cycle and it would stop. I havent been to loyal with the whole thing but i do notice some improvement witht the biotin. Hope I helped you out.
My hair is always falling out, it drives my husband crazy, 'cause it's all over everything!! I never really worried about it. I will say however that I always where my hand in a ponytail too...so maybe your mom is right....but I hate it in my face too!!!!
Hope this helps....
