I don't have experience with corrections, probably for the same reason you are afraid. I just don't know how the chemistry works. Honestly, I would probably go to a professional and have them clean it up for me.
So I'm a brunette with grey and I usually use Natural Instincts Amber Shimmer. Love it! Hubby was talking about doing something different. He suggested blonder, but I've got VERY dark eyebrows and my natural highlights are red so I didn't want to go in that direction. There was a sale on my brand so I got a more auburn shade which I put in on Saturday and BOY did it come out auburn - like BOLD auburn. It's freaking him out! LOL! It's kinda bright for me but I'm getting used to it. Hubby isn't and asked me to fix it please ! (snicker).
Problem is, the color I would use is lighter than the color I put in and I'm afraid to mix another color in just a few days after the last batch.
Anyone have experience with fixing a color oops? I could probably go more brown without looking stupid...
Thanks!

unless you are going to go a darker brown then you may need to get it fixed professionally...red is really hard to get rid of sometimes....and i have been mostly coloring red for about 12 years, so i know how hard it can be sometimes...lol
Go get some Johnsons & Johnsons baby shampoo and wash a few times. It will strip most of the red out and then you can try again with the color you are used to.
- "The color you would use is lighter than the color you put in" Color will not lift color- in other words, if you want to go lighter then you are now, you cannot do that with another box of color- At this point it can get complicated to fix on your own- in order to get the color off you will have to use a lightener/decolorizer/bleach cap- then re-color with the appropriate color. It can be tricky doing it yourself, b/c if you do not get the lightener on evenly you will have a blotchy/uneven color in the end. I would recommend either having it fixed professionally (color corrections are usually more costly) or re-coloring with a darker color that will help to counteract the intensity of this new shade. The good news is that red is the hardest to get out completely however it is the quickest to fade- so your color may not stay BOLD for long- using a clarifying or purifying shampoo will help it to fade quicker -- (keep in mind, it will not change the tone(red) it will just change the intensity(brightness)) these shampoos are made of harsher detergents which is great for a really clean scalp but deff. hard on color- You could also buy an over the counter color enhancing shampoo- ex. brillant brunette- Instead of buying the one for your color (red) , you should buy the one for brunettes- what is will do is deposit a minimal amount of "temporary" color when you shampoo- It will not be a permant fix, but it will help to tone down the intensity just a bit- If you can afford it and want it fixed correctly I would have a professional do it- but be prepared for a larger bill than normal. Best of luck!
