Grants and Scholarships

Try CollegePlus.org. They offer different degree programs for less money and less time.

The AZBPW is a scholarship for women. It's not a ton of money, but every little bit helps. If you go part-time it's $250 and if you go fullt-ime it's $500. I'm not sure what the cutoff date is, but this is the lady with whom I was in contact when I got the scholarship: ____@____.com name is Constance Nunn Miller. They give away several scholarships a year and it's renewable for up to two years, I think. They do a luncheon and invite the winners and introduce you, etc. Good luck.

There are some grants and scholarships for women only, but they can be very hard to find and the competition is steep! Also, many of the deadlines for the 2010-2011 school year have already passed. Fill out your FAFSA to find out if you qualify for Pell Grant money or any need based scholarships. Also P.E.O. International and AAUW (American Association of University Women) both have some scholarship opportunities specifically targeted to women. Also, talk to the financial aid office about scholarships for returning students (there are more of these kinds of scholarships than there are for specifically women). Are you just looking at ASU? The Maricopa Community Colleges are some of the best in the nation and give an inexpensive (or not-quite-as-expensive) option for getting basic requirements out of the way; their class sizes are also much smaller which gives better opportunity for interaction with instructors.

Good luck! I went back to school 8 years ago after my son was born. After a year and a half at a community college, I transfered to ASU to finish my bachelor's degree. I now have a year or so (hopefully) left until I finish my PhD....it's not easy (especially juggling family responsibilities), but if you have the determination, you can totally do it!!

Not sure what "going back" means for you, but Rio Salado College has a great on-line post-bacc program, as well as others like dental hygenist, etc. Their credit rates are very low, so it is almost like getting it for free when you compare to the universities. I am just finishing up a post-bacc in early ed and it only cost me about $5K (including books-I usually purchased off Amazon used.) Good luck!

remember to be leary of any website or scholarship with an "application fee" there are a lot of sites out there trying to take advantage of people who do not know better. Chances are pretty good that if there is a "fee" it's not a legitimate scholarship.
