Hey Mamas, Last year I posed a question regarding starting a errand service in my town. Then all the mamas thought it would be a great idea since everyone is so busy these days, Well a year later, lots of research, sick parent, etc... I am pondering the thought of really putting out my shingle and starting the biz. I will be reaching out to seniors, new/busy parents, and maybe busy professionals. Competition is not strong as only 2 other errands services in near by town exist. MY question ? is this the time, in this economy will people use this service ? Would you use it and how much would you pay for an hour or errands to be run? Start- up is minimal and I need a job (son is starting KG) but have not found one and starting thinking to myself why not LIVE my dream to start my own business, not may be time, what do i have to lose? Any thought appreciated
Thanks

Go for it! I would hire you... there never seems to be enough time in the week. Having someone run errands would be wonderful!
Not everyone is hurting, so perhaps you can advertise in more upscale locations.
I'd go for it, especially since your child will be off at school.
I suspect it'd be a nightmare starting up your own in the economy. But off of what another posted, caring for the Elderly... The YWCA in Bloomington/Normal is looking for 'caregivers' for the elderly. To help cook, run errands, help around the house I'm sure, take to doctors vists etc. It'd be something to look good on your resume when you do get your 'home based' one up and running.
I don't know if the YWCA where you are has such a program, or if they need help. But it's worth checking, I think.
I do think it is a good idea. We run our business from home and I run out of time to do my regular chores and errands.
I am in Plano, TX which is a northern burb of Dallas. The economy sucks for many many people but in our area, it has not hit quite as hard. Of course there are people hurting here and we've seen some foreclosures but for the most part, we are hanging in there. Stores and malls are FULL of people not just shopping, but buying.
I would make my target customer in the more upscale area. Advertise with PTA school directories, websites of HOA's, (Our HOA has a website and advertising on it is dirt cheap).
It can't hurt to also target the elderly groups as well because I am sure they need services like this and sometimes the elderly only see the people who bring them meals or someone like you who helps them out.
Best wishes!!
