You all always suggest good gear, so here's a quick question. My son is turning 1 next week and we have a bunch of gift cards to Toys R Us. We would like to get him some toys to play outside and I would appreciate any suggestions! We have the Little Tykes swing/slide combo and a sand table, but are looking for other ideas as well as a suggestion for a ride/push toy that he can use for some time.

the sand table is good, but you HAVE to get a water table! They love playing with the water, and it only costs $40.

We bought our daughter a Chicco 4-1 car when she was 9 months old (x-mas), and now at over 2, so still loves it, as well as ALL the kids (up to age 4) that we have ever had over for a playdate. It is very visually appealing, has a nice steering well, horn and various other sounds, and the best thing is that it's very easy to assemble and to change into 4 different ways to use it - a rocker, and ride on where their feet rest on pedals and you push them, a ride on where they use their feet to push it, and a toy they can push themselves. Also has storage in the seat for whatever they want to throw in there. Very well made.

We have a few different ones and the Fisher Price Stride-to-Ride toys are the most stable for little ones learning to walk.

We got a corn-popper ride-on toy (Fisher Price) with a yellow seat that flips up for storage. We've had it over 3 years and both our now-4-year-old and our 12-month-old adore it. It's been left outside for two years now and is still in playable condition (though the corn popper part is fogged up). A well-spent $25.

Each of my three children received a ride on toy from toys r us all different brands (most recent one little people, circus model) they are the best. My 2 older children at 4 and 5 will still ride them both inside and out. My 19mo. old loves his and is still growing with it. You can't go wrong with this toy.

My son LOVES the little people school bus - he can ride on it or push it himself. He got it for Christmas before he even turned 1 and we used to push him on it..he's over two now and still loves playing with it! To push he also loves the Fisher Price Bubble Mower...he can't ride it though.

hi K., we have this little nemo car truck thing, he looooves it. the seat opens, which he loves, and he can ride around on it or push it. he uses it indoors. i dont know if i would leave it outdoors because it makes music and beeps and stuff and im sure that would break once it was wet, maybe not a bad thing come to think of it! we just took out the batteries, it was driving us crazy! he doesnt care of course, he loves this little thing. we also have one of those big red cars, also little tykes i think, they have been around forever, with the roof and the door that opens and they walk in it like the flintstones. mine is almost 2 and he is just getting the hang of making it go, its a little big, but he doesnt care because he just loves opening and closing the door and getting in and out over and over, i know he will use it for a long time. and its good because you can walk/push him in it and the roof is at a comfortable height so you arent bent over. he also looooves going in and out of the little play house.
