Good Developmental Toys for a Six Month Old

My boy has just turned six months and his is sitting up and doing lots of looking around, grabbing and clanking things together. I would like to get him some developmental toys that will keep him entertained and learning motor skills. Anyone have toys they just think are great? I like ones that don't have an over-abundance of sound.

What can I do next?

Discovery toys are probably what you would like. A neighbor in my cul-de-sac is a consultant so she can get things pretty fast. I can give you her direct site or number if you like and you can talk with her. email me at ____@____.com

Hi M.,

Try out the 1-2-3 Discovery Lane by Tiny Tot. It is a three-stage modular playground developed for ages 3 to 18 months. The first stage is ideal for babies 3 to 6 months and has a circular shape for baby to play happily on his tummy. The second stage is great for babies 6 to 12 months and is shaped into a curved path that encourages baby to reach out, crawl and develop motor skills. Stage three is made for babies 12 to 18 months. When baby can sit up, it becomes a fun cone-shaped tent with peek-a-boo activities for eye-hand coordination and development of memory and imagination. Stimulating activities include: big mirror with soft star toy, sun rays that make crinkling sounds, water mat with bright fish and colors, geometric shapes and soft toys that make real animal sounds when squeezed.

Our daughter loved this toy and spent hours on her tummy smaking the water mat, pulling up the velcro shapes and wiggling all over the place. I think it really encouraged her to learn to crawl. Best of all is that it does not make a lot of noise. Her other favorite toy was a ball drop maze. You end up with plastic balls all over the place, but the kids have lots of fun crawling after them and dropping them in the funnel.

Hope these ideas help.

Try looking up Discovery Toys online. They are usually sold by independent consultants but we had several of these toys and I thought they were so great for all types of developments at such early ages.

I really enjoy Discover Toys!!! You can find a consultant online. They also usually have booths at trade shows. You could offer to host a party and get great rewards. I did this last year at Christmas time and got tons of great gifts for my daughter and my neices and nephews!!
