I'm going out tonight for dinner and dancing with about 7 other ladies tonight. It's my first time out with just the girls since I had kids. From the emails that have been going back and forth between them all they are dressing "very sexy". One of them emailed a picture of the dress she bought to wear for tonight and it is really short and revealing. We are all 40 plus years old and I feel like I'm going to be out of place because I don't dress like that. They suggested I go out and buy a mini skirt and dress it with a pair of high heels and sexy top. They are telling me that I will likely feel good about myself and feel very sexy if I get myself all dolled up. Maybe I'm apprehensive because I'm a 40 year old married woman and a mother of 2.
What would you do? Dress as they suggested or just go with what I am comfortable with? My husband said I should wear what I want and that I'll have fun regardless. Also adding that he would love to see me in a mini skirt anyway =-)
I agree with the others to meet somewhere in the middle. I think that mini skirts, high heels and sexy tops are a bit much if you're not hitting the clubs and scoping for dudes! ;)
I would do some jeans, heels and a sexy top...that way you're feeling good but not going over the top, especially in a zone you're not comfortable with!

You don't have to wear a miniskirt. But you don't have to cover up like you're a mom of 2 going to church. If you were going out on the town with your husband to dance and have a good time, you'd wear something a little sexy, right?
Do that with your friends so that you won't be so out of place with them. And go home to your hubby and have some fun at the end of your girls' night out. He will appreciate the attention and maybe, he'll ask when you are all going out again! :)

W e l l . . . You are married with two kids and you are not taking your husband. Kinda reminds me of the National Geophric special I saw.

I would suggest that if you catch a young buck, you really don't want to drag him home to your two cubs or your husband, and I'm not lion.
Suggestion: Arrange for a baby sitter. Drive off and let your husband think you are going out with the girls. Go pick up the babysitter and take your husband out with the sexy girl he married.

Getting yourself "dolled up" doesn't necessarily mean that you have to wear revealing clothes.
Fix your hair, put on some make-up and dress the way you are comfortable. You will be dolled-up and have a good time because you'll feel comfortable about how you look.

Maybe wear what you would like, but do a red lipstick, some flashier jewlery and nice heels with a fun hairstyle. You can sexy up anything! I for one am all about dressing for the occasion, the occasion is go out with the girls, have a good time and feel WONDERFUL about being a woman! Dress the part.
I suggest a nice pair of Skinny Jeans OR Well fitted jeans (skinny does not have to be skin tight, just follow your leg's shape) with a button down white top add a few statement necklaces, a wow pair of earrings, nice colored heals (if you have) and a cute clutch. A simple smokey eye, and a fun updo!

I think you can easily find a balance that will keep you feeling comfortable and a touch sexy!
I think a new outfit is in the cards. I know after not going out for a long time after kids, I owned almost nothing that would be good for going out in. What was left from my pre kids days didn't seem appropriate anymore. You will not be comfortable mommed out with your friends who are glammed out, and you will not be comfortable wearing things you find too skimpy. So go out and find a happy medium. Maybe two inch heals with an above the knee skirt.

If you have any dress which makes you feel and look special already in your wardrobe, go with it. Else if you decide to go shopping, go ahead, get any red/black dress which catches your eye, but still make sure that you won't regret wearing it later. Nothing's sexier than being comfortable in our own skins! :)

Dress in whatever makes you feel good and pretty and sexy. When I go out for GNO, I dress as I would if I were dressing for my husband but really I know I'm dressing for other women ha ha. Once I dress and have the "rowr" from my husband I'm ready.

Are these ladies married? sounds like they are going out to meet guys which is fine if they are single. Some married women like the thrill of flirting with guys and just keep it at that. I find it disgusting and borderline cheating.

This is why I love my friends... they are happy with dinner, a movie, shopping & talking. No hoochie skirts or overexposed cleavage required.
I think dressing like your friends are dressing suggests that they're looking for a one nighter, honestly. If you dress like that, will you be okay with the negative attention? Don't dress that way if you're going to self conscious & pulling & readjusting every 5 minutes.
I had a friend who wanted to party like a 20 year old & I finally had to drop her for that, and many reasons. I am pretty sure she was out to get as much attention as possible, and/or cheats, and it was awful. She had us out until 2am once. Call me crazy, but I've been over that since I was in my mid-twenties.

I would have gone with a wee bit sexy (more so than my normal Mom look), but nothing that would make me feel uncomfortable. I don't want to look like the 40 year old who is desperately trying to hold onto her youth. I think you look better when you're confident in who you are. No need to dress like a prude, but no need to dress like a 20 year old either;) I just had a girl's weekend with a friend and when we went out, I wore some black shorts (not short shorts) and a pretty yellow chiffon top 3/4 length sleeves with heels. No boobies hanging out, no bum showing. Just a little leg with heels.
I have always dressed more conservatively than my friends. I look good, too, but I don't look like I'm "on the market" when I go out with them. I would be uncomfortable the whole night if I tried to dress more like them, especially if I didn't truly want to.

I love going out to bars/clubs and dancing but I personally think women over forty in sexy tight/short dresses and heels are pretty pathetic. The only thing MORE pathetic are the losers at the bar hoping to hook up with one of them :(
I feel good, comfortable and sexy in cute jeans, a fun top with a hot jacket and high heel boots. That's MY GNO (gilrl's night out) staple!
Wear what you want. Tomorrow we are going out and the place we are going is "dress to impress"...but I'm a 35 yr old mom...I will dress to impress me and no one else!
Grant it will be my new jeans and low neck line shirt with heels but that is what I'm comfortable with.
I have never dressed as provocatively as my friends do. If it was me (and I'm your age, BTW), I would wear what I was comfortable in, and not worry about what I (or anyone else) have on.
