My daughter turns 13 on Dec. 1st & is dying to take her 4 best friends to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk on Thanksgiving weekend before it closes for the winter, however most of them have holiday plans. Trying to help her brainstorm alternative ideas...? BTW, they do sleepovers all the time, so it doesn't seem "special".

What can I do next?

WHat if you took them a couple of weeks ahead of time instead? This way she gets her birthday with all of her friends. Also, my daughter was born on Dec 18, it seems to get harder every year as she gets older to make things happen at that time of the year. Last year she actually had someone give her a used purse!!! (very Tacky)

Hi S.,
Wow, sounds like a question I may ask. Our daughter is 13 & her BDay always falls on Thanksgiving week. Every 4th year on Thanksgiving Day, so it's always an issue. We have had several times where people RSVP, then the day comes & 3 kids show up to the party.
This year I actually talked to her about having a Halloween Birthday party. It's a little early BUT, these kids are getting to the age that trick or treating is a little baby-ish and since it falls on a weekend night she could have the party then select a few girls to stay over. We also talked about picking 2-3 friends to take to Six Flags for a day. This is pricey but any party ends up costing more than I expect so...at a amusement park they could have SOME freedom but still be chaperoned. 13/14 is a hard age. Not old enough to do anything fun (on thier own) too old to want a baby party (as my daughter calls it)....So, IF you think you can work out the beach boardwalk it would be fun. November at the beach is usually nice(not as overcast as some other times of the year)Last year I took her & her best friend to a Jonas Brothers concert, we won't be doing that again...(20,000 screaming 12 year olds, wow I couldn't hear a thing for days....LOL)
Our daughter is crafty, and likes to do projects at her parties....Since it's close to the holidays she would make Xmas tree decorations.(lots of different things you could do there, have some fun with a camera, turning family or friend pic's in to tree decorations,) Or we have an old family reciepe for German candy we make for the family, but it's easy & you can add different flavors & colors to make it personal. Something like this may be fun for older girls. Now some parents don't allow makeup yet BUT inviting a Avon or Marykay rep to do "Training" on how to apply makeup properly. Not a Makeover...(my daughter also thinks that's for babies) but to show them the "proper way" to apply it, to get the " nautural look" so to speak??
Also our girl's LOVE to Roller skate. In the past she would have told us she was too old for a Skate party, but since they go twice a month anyway she said she would agree to this IF it was on a Fri Or Sat nite....Not a daytime matinee type party like for the little kids....
Just a few suggestions.....I can't wait to read the responses you get, the mom's here always have idea's that NEVER would have occured to me.....
So, THANKS. Not only was I able to give you a couple of my idea's but get a few TOO!!

Maybe mani/pedis for the girls then going out to dinner? My daughter turns 13 in December and I am having the same dilemma. She wants to go to Six Flags but I think we need to find an alternative. I might take my own advice! :)
