I 100% ADORE wrapping All gifts! Especially the challenging oddly shaped ones !!! LOL give me a bottle of wine and a room full of X-mas gifts and I'm in Heaven :-) I've never had a store do it for me, so I dont know what they charge.
Does anyone know how much the department stores charge for gift wrapping? I know it's offered during the holidays but didn't know if it was offered during the rest of the year.
Do you wrap your own gifts or have someone else do it? Christmas or Birthdays? Do you enjoy wrapping? I thought I'd get some opinions out there.
Thanks!

Oh... I LOVE gift wrapping. I've always loved it and am really good at it. SO many other things I'm no good at, but this is one thing I can do! To this day, I still go over to my parent's house and wrap all their Christmas gifts, for them! The department stores aren't always that bad price wise, actually. There are usually donation wrapping centers at malls, like V M. suggested.
Wrapping gifts is one of my favorite things to do during Christmas! I save all the gifts to do at once b/c I don't like getting all the stuff out multiple times.
I put the boys to bed, leave my hubby alone with the TV, turn on Christmas music, grab a bottle of wine and wrap away :)
You are close to a Von Maur in Oakbrook....FREE WRAPPING AND FREE SHIPING ALL YEAR ROUND!!!!
I use gift bags and tissue. Both are reusable, which I love, for the environment and for the expense. And if the tissue is wrinkled, put it through a shredder and get long pieces of pretty stuffing. I also make my own tags, cut from old cards. At Christmas, it's really quite amusing to see all the bags from last year passed back and forth. This method enables us to purchase and enjoy some really beautiful bags.
I hate wrapping! But usually the holiday-for-donation stations have super long lines so I do it myself. If I'm wrapping last minute, I HATE wrapping...if I'm ahead of the game--not so much. :-)
Some department stores have gift wrapping available all year round....haven't used that in awhile--maybe $10? That will be my job assignment in hell for sure! LOL
I enjoy wrapping presents unless I am really rushed. And we have gone to gift bags as well (love being able to recycle them) The only time I get the stores to gift wrap is when it is complimentary. While I was waiting for my free wrapping to be completed I noticed it was $3.50-$4 for a small size, $5-$6.50 for medium and $7+ for large. Extra charges if they had to build a box for the gift.
I wrap myself.
I put everything in gift bags of varying sizes. I buy them on sale or from a dollar store. I also get nice colored tissue paper, on sale, and use it in the bag to make it covered and 'pretty' then I top the bag with a pre-made curly ribbon bunch. All things I buy on sale. Easy.
VonMaur in Lombard (Yorktown) gift wraps for free and I believe even UPS for free.
WhenI was 17 I had a job at a drug store. They prided themselves on beautiful gift wrapping so they sent me to a large department strore to learn gift wrapping. It was easy, it was beautiful and this skill has lasted me all my life (MANY years since age 17). The "funny" part of this story is that I worked in the liquor, shaver and condom section. I can still remember the look on one man's face when he asked for what I thought was "Schick" (razor blades) and after much looking, it turned out he was asking for "Sheik" (condoms)., Nevertheless...I wrapped his gift beautifully and he gave me a tip. Buy your wrapping paper at the dollar store and if you want I will give you all the tips I received. Just send me a private message. Good luck.
Love it! My first job ever was giftwrapping @ JCPenney for the holidays. I would say do it yourself unless the store you purchase from offers free wrapping or take donations. If they have set prices, it's usually expensive. But during the holiday season, the lines are usually very long. If you don't like wrapping, use gift bags...I love them too and they can be recycled and used over and over again unlike wrapping paper! Happy Holidays!
Wrapping presents is probably the one thing I procrastinate the longest on, like we're walking out the door & I'm still putting tape on the gift!!
Even though I despise wrapping, I do it b/c I know the way the receiver of the gift is going to feel when unwrapping. :)
I haven't gone to customer service to have a gift wrapped in a long time because the last time it was so expensive!
When it comes to Christmas, I usually enjoy wrapping. I send the kids and hubby off, put on a good Christmas movie or just put on Christmas music and wrap away. However, for other times of the year, I usually take the easy way out, and use gift bags.
I won't pay a store to gift wrap. It's been a long time since I've checked the prices, but IMO it was outrageous.
Often the mall will offer free gift wrapping, requesting donations that are given to charity. If the line is short, I have been known to have a gift or two wrapped.
our mall has a station that does it for donations. have to say sometimes it looks nice and some times i have to rewrap it.
Personally I hate it, I can't get the corners straight, all thumbs i guess. but i love love love love pretty presents. marthastewart.com has photos of wrapped gifts done in cool ways if you are mildly good at it yourself.
I used to hate wrapping gifts, until I got a job at Pottery Barn and HAD to wrap a ton of wedding gifts. I was terrible at first, but with lots of practice I became one of the best and my co-workers soon brought their stuff to me to wrap.
Pottery Barn does free wrapping, but around the Holidays they usually just pre-wrap most of their gift items. If you don't mind waiting they can wrap other gifts purchased from them as well (say, if you wanted to bundle together items that are not sold in the same set), and will then just give you a claim check to come back later once they've had a chance to wrap it.
I LOVE a gift wrapped package. I love gift wrapping.
I love seeing them all under the tree.. I make bows, I find items to use as package toppers.. Our whole family does.. At Christmas there is a rule to throw all of the ribbons and bows into a box to be saved and used all over again, year after year..
I have actually gift wrapped others gifts for them, because they do not like to do it themselves..
I'll wrap every present if not in wrapping paper a gift sack will do with tissue paper depending on what it is.I will not pay to have someone else do it I can wrap just fine it doesn't bother me one bit I love to sit down have all my items out to wrap turn on a Chrismas movie & off I go to wrap the gifts to put under my tree.
Some dept.stores do have free gift wrapping all year around other wise there is a place in the mall that will charge a small fee depending on the size of the gift
I gift wrap my own gifts unless I am buying something off a registry then I have the department store wrap it for free. I don't know if they do a holiday wrapping service. I have two little ones so I get very upset when people send birthday or christmas gifts that are not wrapped. (in-laws are you reading this!) It just means double work for me a working mom. I would never send a gift to someone unwrapped. Thats part of receiving a gift - unwrapping it. Any no I do not enjoy wrapping but I am not the one receiving the present and that is all that matters.
I hate it and with 21 nieces and nephews, there are quite a few gifts to wrap. I pay my older nephews to come and wrap for me, it works fine and saves me a lot of time.
