Getting Scared About Trying to Get Pregnant Again.

I have had two miscarriages both have started with cramping as if I was going to get my period. The cramps would get worse until I would just miscarry, usually around 7 or 8 weeks. I never would spot or bleed. My Doctor has run dozens of tests and everything has come back fine. My question is that my doctor would like to put me on progesterone suppositories next time I get pregnant. Has anyone used these and what was their outcome? If you have used them did you have some of the same symptoms as me and did they go away with use of the suppositories.

I have not but two of my close friends have used the progesterone suppositories. Both had multiple miscarriages and when they each got pregnant and used the progesterone, they both had full term babies. It's something called luteal (spelling probably wrong) phase defect or something like that. I am not an expert, but have seen it in 2 friends...best of luck!

I took oral progesterone both times for 14 days and have two amazing, terrific, super cute and intelligent (so I am biased) boys. Good luck, I think it is is going to work out well for you.

I have two friends in your same situation and they both used progesterone in the beginning of their pregnancies and it worked. One had a healthy baby and the other is still pregnant (30 weeks).

I recommend it also because personally I started progesterone shots at 15 weeks to 35 weeks because my last child was 9 weeks premature. This was a way to prolong the pregnancy and help me go to full term. I am currently 37 weeks! It seems that progesterone can only do positive things.

Also, there were no side effects from taking the progesterone. We were all instructed to drink a lot more water than normal. Should drink 64 ounces a day normally so I tried adding another 20-30 ounces a day.

Good luck!

My Progesterone was low during my early pregnancy with our son. I cannot remember the numbers but I used the Suppositories until week 14. My levels were great during the use and sustained the pregnancy. We have a beautiful 2 year old boy (and I am 43)

The only side-effect for me was that they seemed to intensify my pregnancy symptoms ie: nausea, breast tenderness. Horrible for me at the time-but worth it in the end.

Best to you!

I had three miscarriages, early in the pregnancy, and the next time we tried, I went on crinone gel progesterone (i'd recommend this one if possible and if your insurance covers it) a couple of days after I knew I had ovulated. That pregnancy went well and I have a healthy little 17-month-old girl.

(I did also have a clotting issue so was put on other meds, but my OB and docs in the family also attributed the success of the pregnancy to the progesterone as well)

I would say try it.. I know it's scary, but, if all other tests have come out fine, and you feel strong enough, it could possibly make the difference for you.

Best of luck to you..

I also suffered several miscarriages before my kids. My oldest is now ten, I dont recall if I had cramping after the use of progesterone or not, but I do know that I did manage to stay pregnant and she is now ten. I also used progesteron with after I had her with my son who is now five, we had several other miscarriages between our daughter and son, so we used tablets so that I had plenty of progesteron in my system the second I got pregnant. Then when our son was about 5 months old we discovered we were pregnant with baby #3!! Not sure how that one managed to sneak in there and hold on without medical help LOL But he is now 4. I just dont recall any discomfort from the progesterone, but I do have children so I know it works! GOd bless and good luck.

I had four miscarriages before I had my first, all before 8 weeks and like you, they never really determined the cause. I have taken progesterone suppositories many times and they were fine. Some doctors have you take them for the two weeks right after conception, pregnant or not. I don't think you'll "feel" anything from taking them, they just help thicken the lining to hopefully help the embryo implant -- and stay there! Good luck and keep at it. After many years of trying and infertility, I have a four year old daughter and a baby on the way.

Be your own best advocate and research all options. Look up Dr John Lee's website. He wrote what your dr. may not tell you about premenopause (not saying you are there, but has good natural hormone balance info)
Another great book is Taking control of your Fertility.
My 2nd preg was a miscarriage, for my 3rd thy wanted me to take a drug with progesterone in it because my levels were low, I didn't take it, left it up to God and pregnancy was perfect.
Arbonne has a natural progesterone creme for $34 that lasts 2-3 months that has amazing testominies. If you want more info email me ____@____.com
God's grace to you!

Hey Jenny,
We ended up going through IVF to conceive as a result of three years of trying with no luck. With IVF I had hormone supplementation, one of which was the Progesterone vaginal suppositories. I am happy to report that we are 18 weeks pregnant with a little boy.
The suppositories are easy to use, just one a day inserted vaginally. You will not notice any hormone fluxes, but may be a tad bit more tired.
Progesterone is a necessity for the first trimester. It is what the body utilizes to maintain a healthy pregnancy and if the levels are not high enough, miscarriage can occur. If you do get pregnant, and are able to maintain a healthy pregnancy, this will be your indicator that your body needs more of it.
Good luck to you!

Hi Jenny-

I had a few miscarriages before I was able to carry by daughter to term, then one more miscarriage before my son's pregnancy. For his pregnancy they found that my levels were low so they put my on the progesterine suppositories. They were extremely uncomfortable, and I was soooo sick, but I do have a healthy, beautiful 10 year old boy today.

Good Luck!!

Hi Jenny
Yes, taking progesterone will definitely increase your chances of having a healthy pregnancy. I know many, many people who have had multiple miscarriages and then took PG and carried their baby to term. I would also ask your doctor to do some bloodwork to see if you have any genetic blood clotting disorders. Don't let them talk you out of it or say that it's not neccesary. Blood clotting disorders are pretty common, easy to test for, and they are also a common cause of miscarriages and fetal death. They are also very easy to treat, with bloodthinners.
I wish you the best and I am very sorry for your losses. If you have any questions about any of this please feel free to contact me directly by responding to this message privately. :-)

Hi Jenny,
Definitely do it. I did it, my cousin did it and my girlfriend did it and we have 5 boys between the 3 of us.

I had different symptoms with my miscarriage... I just started slightly bleeding - I didn't have cramps at all. I went to the doctor and they saw that there was no heartbeat. I'm not sure what happened with my cousin and my friend.

When I got pregnant the second time (a few months later), I immediately started on the progesterone and it worked.

You just have to insert them every night for the first 12 weeks.

Good luck!

Hi, Jenny,

I have been pregnant four times. I used progesterone suppositories during the first two, which ended in miscarriage. I injected heparin during my second pregnancy. My miscarriages sounded like yours. I injected progesterone in oil during the third, which resulted in the birth of my first live child. I did not experience any side effects from prednisone of any form I tried. I did not use progesterone during my fourth, which resulted in the birth of my second live child. During my last two pregnancies, I injected heparin and ingested prednisone to address an immune disorder, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. I am not sure what caused my miscarriages. Lack of prednisone, advanced maternal age when I conceived, ages 38 to 41, are likely causes of my miscarriages.

Good luck,
Lynne E
