Hi everyone,
My 2 year old has been sick since Tuesday, throwing up. My baby girl just started throwing up last night. I have been comforting them and doing as much as I can. There isnt much you can do for a stomach bug. Since I couldnt really get my one or two year old to the toleit to throw up my house smells like puke. The carpet has been puked on, I have scrubbed it with a few different things. The last thing I tried was a odor eliminator made for doggy accidents but it says to use it for vomit also. That didnt help. My house reeks. Does anyone know any tricks to get this horrible smell out of the carpet? And if their are other mommies out there with sick ones too (I hear it's a nasty stomach bug going around) I would love any advise to help my little ones feel better. For now they are getting a lot of love, fluids, and dry toast!! :) Thanks in advance for all your help!
Thanks for all the responses. I tried the vinegar and water and that got the smell out of the carpet. My husband and I now have it too. Everyone but my four year old is sick now. The kids are doing pretty good, it's a virus that just hangs on. Thanks again for the responses and keep them coming if anyone has any other advice!

Is she holding anything down. That is so hard to take care of a child that is sick like that, have you taken her to the doctor? We know of a family who had four children and their two year old was throwing up and complained of stomach pains. She ended up having her intestines twisted. It always scares me when my little girl gets sick.

When I bought my van, the prior owners were heavy smokers and coffee drinkers and the van smelled heavily of both. I fell in love with the van, so I asked the dealership what to use to get rid of these strong odors, and he said to get some "Ozium". You can get it at Wal-Mart for about $5 per can. It's a decent size can and it really works! My van doesn't smell like smoke or coffee any more. I just sprayed it directly on the upholstery, for several applications within a couple of weeks and it killed the odors outright!
Good luck!

I saw one of those dirty house shows, with the british ladies. They said that lemon juice and water cleans odors. Even dog urine---so try it. Good luck and hope the babies feel better.
We have a Bissell Handheld Cleaner. You add a solution and water to it and turn it on and squirt out the solution/water mix and sorta scrub over it. It is great for carpet and sofa. Plus we also use a Arm & Hammer Pet odorizer foam spray whenever my son pukes or accidently craps on the ground. It gets rid of all odors. Plus spraying Lysol helps too.
I would try either vinegar and water or lemon juice and water to clean the carpet or wiping up the floor. Once it dries then I would use my febreeze or what have you to give it that feel fresh smell. but you use the vingar or lemon juice because it acts sort of like a disinfectant w/out changing the color of the carpet.
have you tried vinegar?
I use a pet enzyme cleaner for the smell. I scrub up everything and then I spray a little more on and let it evaporate. I can't remember what it's called, but it comes in a white bottle with a bright pink top. It doesn't seem to work immediately, but after a while you'll notice a difference.
About the vomiting. . . When my little ones are having trouble we do the same as you said above - "love, fluids, and dry toast". I also throw in a weak peppermint tea (you could put a mint in a bottle or cup with tepid water for the baby) and some chlorophyll with acidophilus either in a drink or in something yummy like yogurt. But I've mixed them with a mild juice before and the kids like the taste. You can get them at any GNC. It seems to help them get over it faster:)
Good luck and I hope your little ones feel better!

I'm not quite sure how to get rid of the smell, sorry. But, when my girls and I get stomach bugs we use Emetrol. It is safe for little ones, over the counter and really quiets the tummy. Good luck hun, sounds like a rough time for all!
Not sure if you have a wet vac or can borrow it from someone. It seems that shampooning the carpet and sucking it out really helps. Also open the windows to air out the house.
There is a terrible virus going around right now and it’s miserable. It started with my daughter who just turned 14 months yesterday, spread to my husband, then to me. It hangs on for approx. one week. My daughter will typically eat whatever you put in front of her but I had to resort back to jarred baby food as that and rice cereal with pureed fruit added to it were the only things that she wouldn’t shove away. We totally understood since we had a loss of appetite as well. I hope that you don’t get it since its rough caring for little ones when you don’t feel 100%. Unfortunately, it does have to just run its course so all you can do is to continue to keep them hydrated and give keep giving all that TLC that you mentioned.
As far as the carpet smell, I would try baking soda and/or vinegar.
