My last period was very crazy and it lasted it seems like the entire month of Jan. however, i didnt write down the day it strted or stopped. i have been laid off so i dont have insuarance and now dont have birth control. So my question is this: since i do not know when i should expect my next period, how soon after conception can you take a test to find out if you are pregnant? i do know that day! any help is appreciated

i am working on birth control..FYI: this is the ONLY month i wasnt on it.

also, i never stated whether or not i wanted to be pregnant, just asked when it was possible to find out after conception, so keep the rude remarks to yourself! and the unprotected sex was last week not jan.

What can I do next?

To answer your question, most tests have a "range of accuracy" if you look at the back of the box. Assuming a 28-32 day cycle you could assume that you were "fertile" two weeks after your period started and therefore would be able to conceive anywhere from day 12-18. Do you know when you had sex?

You should (in theory) be able to take a test 2-3 weeks after having sex and get a fairly accurate reading. You may want to take one each week for the next month to be sure (unless you get a positive reading).

Um... birth control is available in non-pill forms too. Just saying... pregnancy is preventable.

Krista P. gave great information about home pregnancy tests. I just wanted to expand on her mention of birth control. You can use over the counter contraceptives to keep from getting pregnant. The condom comes in male and female types and there are spermicidal foams you can use. A condom will not hurt a current pregnancy and, if you are not pregnant, will continue to prevent pregnancy. Good luck either way, and if you need any help with non-prescription birth control you know where to ask ;)

Most early pregnancy tests can be taken within 10-14 days of having sex. Good luck - hope things go the way you want them to!

In my area, the health department gives away free condoms for men and women. I'm not sure I understand how one determines they are "working on" birth control. You either use birth control to prevent pregnancy or you abstain from intercourse altogether.

If you had unprotected relations in January, we are already at the end of February. It's time to take a pregnancy test...enough time has passed to know one way or the other.

You can take a pregnancy test about 2 weeks after unprotected sex. However, if you don't want to get pregnant always use a condom or don't have sex. There is no "working" on birth control. Birth control is readily available even if you don't have insurance.

Take a test maybe next week but if you are pregnant you can apply for medicaid and this will cover all prenatal care, delivery and 8 weeks after the baby is born then YOU are dropped but the baby remains until you cancel the policy. Good luck!

i took the first pregnancy test about a week after i had sex. it was positive. it was a cheap one that looked more like a divided by sign so i went a baught one of the more high tech ones that said pregnant or not pregnant. i took 3 tests totall and all 3 were positve. so i think you can probly take a test a week after and know, but just to be sure you might take another a week after the first. dont want a false positive or negative. good luck!!
