My daughter is 10 months old and is just getting back to her crib. When she was 8 months old she got a really bad cold and was throwing up. I put her in bed with me so I could monitor her better. She quickly liked Mommy and Daddys king size bed better. My husband wouldnt sleep in bed with us so he was in the spare room. My daugher is all over the place crawling now so I knew I had to get her back in the crib. We started a couple nights ago. If Im going to do this then Im going to do it right. I am not rocking her to sleep. I am putting her in there wide awake. If I go in there and put my hand on her belly while she is screaming she will stop but then the second I walk away she screams again. I even tried putting my pillow in there as that is something someone told me to try. Its not working though. Does anyone have any advice? The doctor told me that she might cry for 2 hours. That just seems really long. Any advice would be great.

What can I do next?

I'm a firm believer in not letting my baby cry. I don't give her everything she wants either, but I definately don't let her cry.
here is a website that sort of lets you know how your baby feels when you don't respond to their tears

Try to get this book

The no-cry sleep solution,

or just check out the dr. Sears website, which has all kinds of good methods on getting your kid to sleep on their own.

Good luck!!

You have to do the falling asleep thing in steps. Start with putting her in there while shes almost alseep. And little by little increase her levels of awakeness. I had this same problem with my son. He always fell asleep while nursing. So I started not letting him fall alseep and putting him to bed very drowsy. Then little by little increasing how awake he was when he went into bed. Now at 2 1/2 he's wide awake. Some nights it may take him awhile to go to sleep, but he's in there in the dark, in bed. Eventually he falls asleep on his own. My doc told me to never let my child cry more then 15 mins. If she wakes up after you put her down, go in and soothe her, but don't pick her up. Let her start to fall back asleep and walk out. It will take a week or so, but you'll be glad you made it through.

I agree with Dominique. I have never believed in just letting my kids cry alone, and no, my kids are not "spoiled!" They are now 9 and 5 and they are turning out just great! :)

I highly recommend the Sears resources Dominique mentioned. They have a lovely perspective on night-time parenting, with the clear understanding that whatever course you take will have to work for your whole family.

and here is a link to my favorite all-purpose parenting book, "The Baby Book," by William and Martha Sears. I found it to be way better than that scary "What to Expect" series, which we refer to in my family as "What to Dread!"

I have had the same problem with all three of my kids. I would put them in the crib and they would start screaming I would leave the room and let them cry for 10 minutes, go back in kiss them lay them down and walk out of the room, wait 15 minutes go back in do the same, leave for 20 minutes, and so on til they are asleep.. It is tiring on the parent but , even better, it's tiring on the child. I always felt bad but when I mentioned this to the ped. , he said that was exactly right, except, he didnt agree with the interaction when going back in the room. He thought I should just go in lay them down and walk out. This may take a week or so, but trust me it will work.Good Luck-
