Getting Cat Urine Smell Out

Hey, so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience getting the smell of cat pee to come out of plastic? We got my son a big plastic slide for his playroom and ended up taking it outside a few months ago to play with outside. I decided to clean it up and bring it back inside, so I used soap and a garden hose to clean it. While I feel that it is clean, I notice a distinct cat pee smell coming from it now that it is back inside. Does anyone know what I could use to take the smell out so that I don't have to put it back out in the yard?

What can I do next?

Vinegar is the best thing I've found for clothes and even use it in my steam cleaner. You could try that but I don't know about how it will work on plastic but I know it will neutralize the smell so I hope this works for you!! Good luck!!

1. Try baking soda. Made a paste and rub on and let sit for a while. Rub and rinse.
2. Try vinegar in abundance. Let dry outdoors. Rinse and dry.

Hi N.,
I have a new puppy and we buy the as seen on TV Urine Gone. It is an enzymatic cleaner that is great for people and pet accidents! The stuff works great! Our pet trainer told me that to mix 50% vinegar with 50% water and saturate the area with that works the same way. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I would try vinegar- white- you can put it on full strength and let it sit in the sun for a few hrs.
I am sure that a petsmart would have a product for this purpose, but white vinegar is your cheapest most toxic free choice.

i've heard vinegar takes the urine smell out of anything... i guess try it. can't hurt...

ok this is what my "google-fu" came up with
Combine one part distilled white vinegar to two parts warm water to create a spray. Remove as much urine/spray as you can using a paper towels. Mist vinegar spray over areas of cat urine and rub with a paper towel. An alternative method is to mix the solution in a bucket and dip a clean cloth into the liquid. Rub the stain with the vinegar solution. After the vinegar dries, wipe away both solution and stain with warm water.
or
Another simple to make spray uses 15 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, two tablespoons of baking soda, and two squirts of liquid hand soap. Mix in a plastic container with a plastic spoon. Discard after use. Apply this solution to cat urine stains or odour areas, and then rinse away with warm water.

My cat did the same thing with my son's playhut. I scrubbed with Pinesol first and then rinsed off well. Then I used a peroxide and water mixture and sprayed on the spot, let it sit, and the rinsed away. I didn't notice the smell anymore.

Nature's Miracle.
IF you can't find it at the usual places like Target & Wal Mart, most pet stores carry it.

Some sort of enzyme cleaning action. Works well on carpets, too.

I too have used Simple Solution (Petsmart) with great results. It worked very well on carpet but I am unsure about plastic. I would think that plastic must be somewhat pourous (spelling?) to absorb the smell, so a cleaner should work here as well.

Clorox Clean up works well to get rid of odors. Be careful using it in the house because it has bleach in it.

Hi N., I have been a customer of a "green" on-line company for over four years. They have a terrific product that could likely help you called Sol-U-Mel. I use it all of the time to get our dog smell out of the carpet and in our diaper pale. It is almost instantaneous in removing the smell ... and it smells so nice! It is not the perfume smell over smelly smell. It actually takes the odor away. The other great thing is that my little ones can crawl on the carpet after I spray it and I don't have to worry. So, you wouldn't have to worry about your boys going on the slide after cleaning it with this product.

This is a totally word of mouth company that offers a business to its customers. I started doing the business a few months ago. You can take a look at my website http://www.switchingstores.com/danipen
if you like and request more information. The are really exceptional products at great prices, and you can feel good about using them too because they are safer for your family and the environment.

Take care, D..

i used to work in a kennel and the best thing i found to get that pee smell out is something called Odo-Ban. You can find it at Sam's and at most janitorial supply type stores, unfortunetly I have never see it come in anything smaller than a plastic jug but it is the best at getting out animal smells. You might could try some vinegar and water but i really think Odo-Ban is your best bet.

If it is plastic you can probably almost use anything....comet, maybe even a bit of bleach if you rinse it off quickly. I would try baking soda and water to make a paste first, then maybe some white vinegar if that does not work. Those are very safe...then go the route of the others if they don't work. There may even be a special solvent that pet stores sell b/c I am sure it is common to want to get that smell out.

I don't think that you will EVER get that cat pee smell out. That stuff is stout ... for some reason. But if it can be done, and if you can find the spot, you can put baking soda on it mixed with water and let it sit for about a day without drying out (you'll have to keep checking on it to make sure it hasn't dried out). If that doesn't get it, I don't know what to tell you. You may check at the pet store to see if they have anything just for that.

N., I would go to your nearest, big pet store and ask what product to use. I've heard of spraying straight vinegar, but I don't know if that works on plastic. Good luck, S.

Don't really have any new ideas, but simply sitting in the sun helps evaporate a lot of odors. The soda, vinegar, bleach applications couldn't hurt, either. Plastic actually absorbs odors, so it's not like you can just wash it off, I'm afraid.

Simple solution. You can buy it at Petsmart. Works on fabrics and carpet. Never tried it on plastic but I bet it will work. Any kind of urine, cat, dog, and people. A little bit goes a long way.
