Just another perspective you might not have thought about--I don't know your political bent, but our family boycotts GE products for a myriad of reasons. First and foremost, they were the last American company still doing business with our enemy, Iran. I think it was just last week that they finally stopped. Bill O'Reilly has been reporting on this for years.
Also, GE owns NBC and MSNBC, which have so far left that they esentially campaign for the president and liberal issues. They have basically given up on actual journalism and being a watchdog of our government. We stopped watching MSNBC completely when Chris Matthews described the tingly feelings in his legs that he got from watching then-candidate Obama. The few times I check in with them, I am appalled at the unchecked bias that they display.
The commentators on MSNBC openly mock anyone who expresses conservative opinions and the entire Tea Party movement. They call these citizens who dare challenge their government to stop the insane spending in Washington (of which I am one) crazy nuts, uneducated idiots, and racists. Having attended five tea parties, a health reform protest in Austin, and our congressman's town hall, I have yet to hear a single racist comment. Mostly, I see quotes from Jefferson and our other founders on posters and T-shirts. I dated a black man for five months and married into a poor Hispanic family. I have a bachelor's degree, and my husband is a physician. So much for racist and uneducated! So I have a real problem spending my hard-earned money with a company who so dishonestly portray people like me as racist yokels.
NBC's progamming has also become over-the-top liberal. After 18 years of faithfully watching the "Today Show" every morning, the straw that finally broke the camel's back for me was watching them broadcast Katy Perry singing "I Kissed A Girl (And I Liked It)" to a live audience filled with little girls. I contacted their sponsors, changed the channel, and have never looked back! I really thought I'd miss Matt, Ann, and Al (not so much Meredith), but it turns out that the morning crew on Fox is a lot more fun and informative.
More importantly, NBC and GE have a gigantic conflict of interest problem when it comes to reporting on so-called "global warming" or "global climate change." Their news outlets constantly trumpet that the science behind this theory is settled, calling critics "flat earthers," yet nothing could be further from the truth. A huge portion of the scientific community dispute the science behind the theory, but often face retribution that includes losing their positions and funding from universities for espousing this politically incorrect view.
NBC consistently fails to disclose that they have an enormous vested interest in the success of this theory. They are the largest producer of "green products," from wind turbines to light bulbs. (Ironic, since GE singlehandedly polluted the Hudson River so badly that you couldn't fish there for years. Their current concern for the environment is touching!) They coporation and its executives consistently donate tons of money to candidates who will vote for legislation like the Cap and Trade bill, which will line their pockets, but will raise the price for energy substantially for everyone. So much for our politicians' deep concern about the poor and people on fixed incomes! Also, GE's CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, is one of President Obama's economic advisors.
We have a serious problem when corporations and the media are so integrated into our government. It is appalling watching the leaders of our nation, corporations and our media openly scratching each other's backs without regard to the well-being of our country and its people. As a citizen, it seems that our voices and concerns are no longer of interet to our government, only the best interest of the coporations that donate matter now. So in our family, we do all we can to make an impact: we speak up to our nation's leaders to let them know that we're watching and we vote, we rarely watch NBC, and we NEVER buy anything from GE.
That said, good luck with your purchases. Sorry to be so serious, but it seems like a lot is at stake now.
Blessings,
D.
