Garage Sale Worth It?

I hear ya. Time and energy--seems draining to me. I have a pile of stuff I need to get rid of, but can't imagine setting up for a garage sale with 2 kids. I'm either going to give it away to someone who really needs it, or sell it all on craigslist.

Here is an idea!! Invite your neighbors to and all their families to join you on the same day. Not only is there much more word of mouth advertising but more stuff means more people... It can be fun, even with kids ... Kids can make $$ selling suckers for .25 and bottled water or soda.. Grill up hot dogs . Doughnuts in the am
all this kinda stuff helps.. It's always good to have a free basket too.
THERE IS THIS PLACE CALLED BIRTHLINE, LOCATED IN DENVER. THEY HELP WOMEN WITH CLOTHS FOR AND ALL KIND OF OTHER THING SUCH AS CRIBS, CARSEATS, STROLLERS,...
I HAVE GONE THERE FOR 15 YEARS NOW AND I CHOOSE TO BARROW THE ITEMS AND RETUN THEM FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO USE THEM. THEY HAVE BEEN A REAL BLESSING IN OUR LIVES AND WITH OUT THEIR HELP WE MIGHT HAVE HAD TO DO WITH OUT THE EVERYDAY NEED OF BEING A GOOD MOM .

It all depends on where you live I think. Yard Sales are hit or miss. I have had luck when having other stuff out there but when I put out just baby clothes....not much. Others have but they live in a more suburbian neighborhood.

Here is an idea I just did. This is the time of year for Large Consignment Sales with organizations like Just Between Friends (JBF). You can find the website by searching the name. Then click for your location. I just did Highlands Ranch and sold 137.00 worth of clothes. there is one in Denver in Sept. I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth it as there is more work involved vs droppig off consignment stores. Here you have to pin outfits together, hang them, and price and tag them. The good news is that is gives you details on the website on how to do it all and there is a barcode/pricing system online that you can use and it tracks your sold stuff too. They always need older children's clothes and have them 2x a year (spring and fall). I will do it again since it was so organized.

I think if you are in an area that has lots of traffic, easy location to get to & great clothes people will come! When I go garage saling I am ALWAYS looking for nice gently used clothes. Clothing kids is so expensive, so it's great when I find a garage sale with them AND people LOVE garage sales with multiples items, especially clothing.

You can list it on Craigslist for FREE to get more exposure also. :0)I love the consignment stores I frequent but the amount I get for the clothes isn't enough nowadays. There are M.O.M. sales (mothers of multiples) but they take part of the profits.

I say GO FOR IT!!! I have made $700 plus selling mostly clothing at both a home garage sale & the Flea Market. Have FUN!!! PS. I recommend a Fri/Sat. sale if you do only 1 day Saturdays are BEST.

I don't know about you but I know I don't have the time to set up a garage sale THEN wait for people to show! Why not take pictures and lot the clothes out in groups? Post them on Ebay or even craigslist for something local. You might run the ad for a few days but it hardly takes any time. I've sold and bought several things off of craigslist and I'm very satisfied with it. Good luck!

If you decide to do a garage sale, I would say advertise like crazy!! People will come, but they have to know you're there!

Another option, if you decide against a garage sale, is Z..com. We're an online marketplace for parents to post their gently used kids' gear (including car seats, strollers, and clothes). We use a points based system, not dollars, so the whole thing is FREE. You just join, take a picture of your item and post it with a description, and you assign a point value. Then, other members can take a look at it and use their points to "buy" your items. You can choose to post your items locally, so you can meet with the other user and exchange the items, or you can choose to ship the items (great for clothing). If you ship we have a built in FedEx tool that allows the "buyer" to pay so you just print a label from your computer and send it out.

After you "sell" your items, you can use your new points to get something else from our database, or you can donate your points to a local charity.

It really depends on your thought process. Right now, people are looking for a low cost way to get clothes. I just bought the winter clothes I needed for my daughter for $10 at a neighbors garage sale.

In my situation, my family can use any extra money possible and the relief of getting rid of the things that are cluttering my house is priceless. I will be selling extra or out grown clothes of my family's in hopes of clearing out the clutter and making a few bucks. Hope that helps!

I say do it for one day, if it isn't worth it, don't do it the next day. Be sure to advertise your sale heavily, i.e., CraigsList, the paper, signs, etc.

Garage sales are kid of a hit or miss. You do not have much so you might not find that much success, however, people always need kids clothes. Just be sure to remember it is a Garage Sale and price it accordingly. Most people over-value their stuff. For example, they try to sell kids clothes for $2 and $3 a piece when typically you find them for .50 to a $1 a piece. Garage-Salers know that they can go to Target and get brand new clothes for $2 and $3.

P.S. I have found it is too much work to make it worth it, so I just donate. You get a write-off for it.

Baby items and clothes do sale at garage sales so if you want to do it I would do a Friday and Saturday sale from like 8-3 or 4. If you don't have the time or only have certain items put them on craigslist. I have had great success with both. The only downside to craigslist is scheduling people to come over and get the stuff. Beware, sometimes people flake out so make a waiting list. If someone doesn't show call the next person on the list. I have had a great time meeting and talking with people at all the garage sales I have had over the years. My kids love to help too. Good luck and have fun! M.
