Garage Sale Tips - & Where to Donate All the Baby Stuff

We have boy/girl twins and I'm <finally> ready to start emptying the garage of baby stuff. I'm thinking garage sale. I've read tips here already such as put things in bins with flat $ amounts. But can anyone give me additional tips about advertising? Should we put a notice in Craigs List and/or the paper? We've got 2 of everything and it would just be nice to be able to get a little money out of it.
Second part- after the garage sale I'm ready to donate stuff. But where? I went to my local Goodwill recently and they claimed they were already overloaded and didn't "need" more "stuff". Is that normal? Does anyone know good places in the San Fernando Valley where kid stuff -especially toys- would be helpful? But I also have the baby swings, high chairs, bouncy seats,...
Thank you in advance ladies!

Advertise your sale on Craigs List and in the newspaper. There are also lots of free garage sale listing websites that people check so those are worth checking out, too. And don't forget to put up lots of signs in the neighborhood. (and take them down when you're done!)

Make your garage sale fun for your customers. Play upbeat music, offer refreshments, put together "mystery bags" for $1, be happy & energetic when greeting your customers. The longer they hang around, the more they'll buy, so make them want to stay.

If you have baby stuff left over when your sale is done, call Wear it Once, Wear it Twice in Burbank and make an appointment. They're a resale shop and you'll get decent money if your stuff is in good condition. Anything that they don't want, you can donate at any number of charities - Salvation Army, women's shelters, a different Goodwill, etc.

Good luck!!

I would definitely put an ad up on Craigslist! I would also put another ad up on Pennysaver and if you have enough things to sell, I would put an ad in the Daily News. As for any baby or mommy things that didn't sell, this is a great organization to give it to:
Pregnancy Resource Center
16909 Parthenia St # 301
Northridge, Ca

Or you can always place a free ad on Craigslist. Happy selling! :-)

If your swing/bouncers/other big items are in good shape and clean, I would advertise those things on craigslist. You'll get a lot more money than at a garage sale. I believe Salvation Army will also pick up at your home.

I'll have to check out that MEND program Sabrina mentioned - thanks!

There is a great place that I take my stuff now. It is called MEND. It helps low income families. They are located in Pacoima, off of San Fernando Road. The families can just come in and shop and do not have to pay the rediculous prices that Goodwills carge.

I provided you with the link above. I no longer take anything anywhere else. I hope this helps.
