Gall Bladder Problems?

Has anyone had gall bladder problems? What were the symptoms? I know the easy answer is go to the Dr. & find out, but I kinda have a phobia of going to the Dr.'s because of germy waiting rooms & sick people. I know it's silly, but if anybody has had issues with their gall bladder, what symptoms did you have?

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
I had the same problems like the others here ie: vomiting, SEVERE PAIN, cramping, etc. I ended up in the ER cause I thought it was appendix!!! And it turned out by a fluke that I had STONES.... One of the other symtoms is that if you lost alot of weight that causes stones as well or if your hispanic (like me)but I ended up having the gall blagger removed instead of just the stones cause if not then infection could set in and be worse.
Plus if the doctor sugggests trying med's dont cause they could go away then later down the road they will come back and get worse. The surgery is a day and it's a laproscopic and with me I got 4 small cuts and never felt better..
But one thing if you do, just make sure that you wear clothes likes skirts or dresses cause they cut you right at the belly button and while it's healing there's a chance of the wound breaking open(like me).
No one told me this part I had to learn it the hard way and very painfully. But you will feel so much better once it's done.
Good luck.

Hi J.,

I had my gall bladder removed when i was 14 (i know that is really young). I would get really bad pains and cramping and have to get down into a fetal position most of the time. I had several tests done to watch it and see if that was what was causing the pains. They found that my gall bladder never really worked like it was supposed to so when it did it overworked itself causing a lot of pain. I am not sure if you know exactly what the gall bladder does but you don't have to have it. It breaks down all the fatty foods that you take in before it reaches the stomach. That way your stomach does not have to work as hard. Well mine does and i am fine. I just have to watch what i eat or i will get really bad stomach aches. Let me know if you have anyother questions i will be more then willing to talk.

I had my first "attack" 1 month after the birth of my son (1yr ago), which apparently is pretty common. Severe chest pain spreading to my back behind my shoulder blades. It lasted several hours then went away. Had another attack about 3 weeks later but already had surgery scheduled by then. The surgery was not a big deal at all, they removed my gallbladder at 10 and I was home by 12, apparently it's a much bigger deal if it needs to be removed under emergency circumstances.
I understand that you're worried about germs but no sick people go to the surgeon's office nor are they allowed to undergo surgery at the outpatient facility if they are not well...so you really are not exposed to any more germs than you would be doing groceries, probably less. If you want to wait for winter to be over before you go, don't eat any high fat meals in the meantime because that may cause an "attack".

My attack was the worst & I never wished the pain on anyone!! The attack happened on a Tuesday & I had the gallballder taken out on Friday. There was NO WAY I was going to experience that pain again (which happened 2 months after having my baby).

The pain started in the middle of my chest (like I was having a heart attack). Then the pain shifted to my right shoulder, down my right side to the right side of my stomach. I started sweating & then vomiting. It was HORRIBLE!!!! Stupid me should have rushed to the hospital but I didn't. By 3am I couldn't stand the pain & called my Dr. She said, "be in my office when it opens". That morning she declared it was my gallbladder & sent me to a surgeon that day (since I said I wanted this taken out!!!). I had to go to the hospital every day until Friday to have blood work done. If it got worse they would preform the surgery earlier.

They perform an outpatient surgery & it's laporscopic (I only have 3 - 1 inch inscisions on my stomach. I laid around the house the next day & after that I was fine. I think I wasn't allowed to lift my daughter up off the floor for a week. I had to kneel down & place her on the sofa & then pick her up. But I primarily kept her in her crib or on the sofa.

I have friends who never had their gall bladder taken out (which you can normally have symptoms of diarrhea & horrible cramping after eating high fatty foods or after you just had a child). I don't understand why my friends won't take their gall bladders out after having the pain they do. They always complain how horrible they feel while having the symptoms.

I would go to the Dr. The gall bladder can create gall stones which could get stuck & create even bigger problems.

Good Luck!
